Challenge is a 2012 Indian film directed by Kamaraj. [1] The film stars Nishan, Sanjana Singh, Achyuth Kumar, Harish Raj, Sanjana Singh, Kalabhavan Mani, Jayaprakash, Riyaz Khan and Dharma. This film was simultaneously shot in Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam; Challenge is the title of the Kannada version, whereas the Talim and Malayalam versions are titled Yaarukku Theriyum (transl. Who knows?) and 120 Minutes, respectively. [2] The film is an adaptation of Unknown (2006). [1]

Production

The film's director previously worked as an assistant director for Ghajini (2005). [2] Sanjana Singh, who starred in Renigunta (2009) was signed to play the love interest of Harish Raj. [3] [4] Kannada actor Harish Raj dubbed for himself in the Tamil version. [5] [6] The Malayalam version featured different characterisations than the other two versions. [7]

The soundtrack consists of two songs composed by Kannan. [8]

Kannada version

Sify stated that "The film takes a slow start but picks up later with the narrative becoming interesting and it continues to engage you till the climax". [9] The Times of India opined that "While Dharma shines as a police officer, Harish Raj, Dilip Raj and Achuth Kumar have done justice to their roles. Sanjana Singh has little to do. Cinematography by Mahesh K Dev is impressive". [10]

Conversely, The New Indian Express stated that "But, director Kamaraj who had an intelligent subject at hand has lost points in his presentation and could not transcend it whole-heartedly on to the screen". [11] Bangalore Mirror wrote that "Challenge should rank high among the films of Achyuth Kumar for his brilliant performance. Harish Raj, Dilip Raj and Kalabhavana Mani are also apt for their roles. The camera work is dull and the songs uninspiring". [12]

Tamil version

The Times of India gave the film three out of five stars wrote that "Yaarukku Theriyum is a rare movie that has brought together smaller names from the south Indian film industry". The Times of India also praised the performances of Achyutha Kumar and Harish Raj saying that "Kannada actors Achyuth Kumar and Harish Raj, as humourous[ sic ] Baasha, come out on top with their performances". [1]

On the contrary, News18 opined that "Despite an engaging plot, the film struggles to keep you hooked and eventually graduates as one sans any thrills". News 18 also criticized the use of English dialogue in the film. [13] The New Indian Express criticized the film and wrote that "But the characters are too many, and the numerous sub-plots linking them at times seem contrived". [14] Behindwoods wrote that "Director Ganesan Kamaraj seems to have focused his intentions on getting the audience to play the guessing game but disappointment looms as the surprises turn out to be far from clever". [15] DNA India opined that "Yaarukku Theriyum engages partly, but disappoints extremely". [16]

Harish Raj is an Indian actor and director based in Kannada cinema. He made his acting debut in the television serial Hosa Chiguru Hale Beru in 1996 and his debut in feature films was with Doni Saagali in 1998. After featuring in a string of films and serials, Raj moved into film direction with Kalaakaar (2009). He also acted in several Malayalam and Tamil films and Hindi television serials. He also performed in television commercials.

Josh is a 2009 Indian Kannada language romantic film directed and written by Shivamani. Produced by Sanjay Babu under SVP pictures, the film mainly stars debutants Rakesh Adiga, Poorna and Nithya Menen whilst Akshay, Vishnu Prasanna, Dwarakish, Achyuth Kumar, Tulasi Shivamani and Sihi Kahi Chandru feature in supporting roles. The music is composed by Vardhan, making his debut.

Soorarai Pottru is the soundtrack album, composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, to the 2020 Indian Tamil-language drama film of the same name, directed by Sudha Kongara, starring Suriya and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles, along with Aparna Balamurali, Urvashi, and Mohan Babu in other prominent roles. Pan-Indianfilm is a term related to Indian cinema that originated with Telugu cinema as a mainstream commercial film appealing to audiences across the country with a spread to world markets. The movement gained popularity since 2015, post the success of Baahubali: The Beginning. The term "pan-Indian film" is used for a film that is simultaneously marketed and released in multiple languages – Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Such films make an attempt to appeal to the audiences across the country, cutting across the linguistic and cultural barriers.
