Chantal Wright (born February 1, 1993) [1] is an American judoka, though she has previously competed for both Switzerland and the United Kingdom. [2] [3]

She won the 70 kg categories at the 2016 Pan American Open in San Salvador and the 2017 Pan American Open in Buenos Aires, and came second at the 2018 Pan American Open in Santo Domingo. [4] [5]

Wright won bronze at both the 2020 and the 2021 Pan American Judo Championships. [6] [7] [8] She also competed at the 2021 World Judo Championships in the 70kg category, but was knocked out by Dutch judoka Sanne van Dijke. [9]

Personal life

Wright's two younger siblings, Kyle and Liam, also compete in judo competitions; all three are trained by their father. [10]

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Wright worked as an intensive care nurse. [3]

She picked up a total of thirty medals in her career, including three from the Pan American Games, and a bronze from the 1995 World Judo Championships in Chiba, Japan, and also appeared in the 57-kg class in two editions of the Olympic Games. Growing up in Santos, Zangrando took up judo at the age of 5 following her brother to the dojo of sensei Paulo Duarte. Throughout most of her sporting career, Zangrando trained under Duarte as a full-fledged member of the judo squad for Santos FC Judô.
