Charlie Belle is an American indie pop duo from Austin, Texas composed of siblings Jendayi and Gyasi Bonds. [1]
Jendayi and Gyasi Bonds lived just outside Philadelphia and attended The Paul Green School of Rock 2005-2008 in Philadelphia, the music school that the movie School of Rock is based. [2] After relocating to Austin, Texas in 2008, the pair began performing as Rank & File and eventually changed the band's name to Charlie Belle, which is their paternal great-grandmother's name. They have cited the Arctic Monkeys, The Roots, [3] The Strokes, and Corinne Bailey Rae as influences. [4] Jendayi attended the Ann Richards School, [5] graduated from Anderson High School in 2016, [6] and Belmont University in 2020. Gyasi graduated from Anderson High School in 2019 and currently attends college in Chicago.
Originally from the Philadelphia area, Jendayi and Gyasi, along with their parents, moved (back) to Austin, Texas, in 2008 and officially formed Charlie Belle. Since 2009 the band has played at national festivals such as Austin City Limits Music Festival [7] and SXSW Music Festival. [8] [9] [10] [11] The pair's paternal grandparents are classically trained professional singers and retired educators of the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. [12] [13] Their grandfather, Samuel Bonds, Sr., founded and directed the award winning Duke Ellington Show Choir, [14] [15] and has worked with world-renowned opera singers Jessye Norman and Denyce Graves. In 2015, Charlie Belle released an EP titled Get to Know, which was recorded at East Austin Recording Studio and was produced by James Stevens of the band Moonlight Towers. It garnered acclaim from NPR, [16] Nylon Magazine, [17] and The Guardian. [1] This spurred their signing to NYC boutique label, Fanatic Records, a subset of Caroline Records. In late 2015, the duo released a second EP, the first with their new label, titled, I Don't Want to Be Alone, which garnered similar acclaim. [16]
In early 2016, Charlie Belle began recording their debut LP at Orb Recording Studios in Austin TX. Produced by Matt Noveskey of Blue October, the original 10-song LP was remastered as two 5-song EPs. Like I Love This was independently released in September 2018, while the remaining 5 songs are unreleased.
July: Charlie Belle released the single Sun-Dried in collaboration with UK DJ Star Slinger. The song samples the 2015 banger Shake You Off from the band's debut release. Elaborating on the notion of being pushed into a relationship that you didn't necessarily want, Star Slinger was inspired by an ex who "love bombed" him into a romance.
September: Charlie Belle released the single Looking For Magic, one of the previously unreleased songs recorded at Orb Recording Studios in 2016.

Belle & Sebastian are a Scottish indie pop band formed in Glasgow in 1996. Led by Stuart Murdoch, the band has released twelve studio albums. They are often compared with acts such as the Smiths and Nick Drake. The name "Belle & Sebastian" comes from Belle et Sébastien, a 1965 children's book by French writer Cécile Aubry later adapted for television. Though consistently lauded by critics, Belle & Sebastian's "wistful pop" has enjoyed only limited commercial success.
Toadies are an American rock band formed in 1989 in Fort Worth, Texas, best known for the song "Possum Kingdom". The band's classic lineup consisted of Vaden Todd Lewis, Lisa Umbarger, Darrel Herbert, and Mark Reznicek (drums). It formed in 1989 and disbanded in 2001 after Umbarger left the group. The band reformed and released the album No Deliverance in 2008. In 2010, they re-released the album Feeler with Kirtland Records. The band's most recent album, The Lower Side of Uptown, was released in September 2017.
Okkervil River is an American rock band led by singer-songwriter Will Sheff. Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1998, the band takes its name from a short story by Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya set on the river Okkervil in Saint Petersburg. They began as a trio made up of Sheff and friends he had met in his native state of New Hampshire but, over time, have gone through many lineups.

The Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition & Festival is an annual high school jazz festival and competition that takes place every May at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. The festival is aimed at encouraging young musicians to play music by Duke Ellington and other jazz musicians.

Black Joe Lewis is an American blues, funk and soul artist influenced by Howlin' Wolf and James Brown. He formed Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears in Austin, Texas, in 2007. In March 2009, Esquire listed Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears as one of the "Ten Bands Set to Break Out at 2009's SXSW Festival."
The Bright Light Social Hour is an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. The band is composed of Jackie O'Brien on bass and vocals, Curtis Roush on guitar and vocals, Zac Catanzaro on drums, Mia Carruthers on keys and vocals, and Juan Alfredo Ríos on percussion.
R5 was an American pop rock band formed in Los Angeles in 2009. The band consisted of Ross Lynch, Riker Lynch, Rocky Lynch, Rydel Lynch (keyboards/vocals), and Ellington Ratliff (drums/vocals). They released their first EP Ready Set Rock on March 9, 2010, but it was removed once Ross got his role on the Disney Channel show Austin and Ally. They then released the EP Loud on February 19, 2013. Since releasing their debut album, Louder, on September 24, 2013, which peaked at 24 on the Billboard 200, followed by their world tour. Their second album, Sometime Last Night, was released on July 10, 2015, and debuted at 6 on the US Billboard 200, and reached the top 20 in five other countries. They have also released five EPs, eleven singles, and a documentary. In 2018, the band ended and Ross and Rocky formed the duo The Driver Era.
Young & Sick is an American music and art project. The solo project is the brainchild of Dutch artist Nick van Hofwegen, described as a "double threat" in art and music by the Wall Street Journal, who is responsible for the project's musical composition, production, and performance, as well as all artwork. Young & Sick is currently releasing music with Neon Gold Records and B3Sci Records and was previously signed to Harvest Records. He has created artwork for a variety of well known entertainers including Foster the People, The Velvet Teen, Maroon 5, Robin Thicke, Mikky Ekko, T. Mills, Andy Dick, Jerry Stiller, L.A. Salami and others. In 2014, Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1 called Young & Sick the "Next Hype" and the project was named Stereogum's "Band to Watch."
Mother Falcon is a symphonic rock band from Austin, Texas, known for their wide-ranging instrumentation and collaborative songwriting. Formed by bandleader Nick Gregg in 2008, the group grew to include a collective of more than twenty musicians playing strings, horns, guitars, and percussion. The group was most active between 2010 and 2016, after which they scaled back and began new projects including theatrical scores and an annual music education camp. Since the release of their final album Good Luck Have Fun, released in 2015 by Universal, the band has continued to perform in the Austin area.
The Nightowls are an American musical group from Austin, Texas, whose debut album Good As Gold was named Top 10 of the 2014 Austin Music Awards Albums of the Year. Their sound combines R&B, Funk and soul music. Lead singer and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Harkrider formed The Nightowls in 2011. His song "Nobody Ever Wants to Leave" was commissioned in 2009 by The Austin Convention and Visitor's Bureau as Austin's official theme song. The Nightowls have released three full-length albums and two EP's. Two of which were recorded at the iconic Soul/R&B studios - FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and Royal Studios in Memphis, Tennessee.
Dead Earth Politics was an American heavy metal rock band formed in Austin, Texas in 2005. The band's final line up consisted of Ven Scott, Tim Driscoll, Lennis Hayes and Aaron Canady. Well known for its blend of old and new school metal influences that some have coined as “Progressive Power Thrash” has been described as a cross between Iron Maiden and Lamb of God. The group rose to prominence in the mid late 2000s with their engaging live performances. With one full-length LP and three EPs, the latest release was on March 14, 2015, with their Men Become God’s EP.
Dalton Louis Rapattoni is an American singer from Dallas, Texas. In 2015, he auditioned for the fifteenth season of American Idol. On April 6, 2016, he finished the show in third place, behind La'Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon.
The Mrs is an American pop-rock band based in Austin, Texas. Founded by drummer Andra Liemandt with longtime friend Jenny Mason (bass) as the first recruited member, the band took form in July 2013 after a nationwide search of websites and social media for musicians. Eventually, the pair found what they were looking for in their own backyard of Austin, in solo artists Larissa Ness (keyboards/vocals) and Mandy Prater (guitar/vocals).
Fragile Rock is an American musical collective of musicians and puppeteers, described as an "emo puppet band." The band formed in Austin, Texas in 2014 as the brainchild of musician and writer Brently Heilbron.
Dawg Yawp is an American indie folk band based in Cincinnati, OH. The group consists of members Tyler Randall and Rob Keenan. Dawg Yawp’s music is known for melding intricate harmonies and unique instrumentation, including Randall’s sitar, which is amplified and played while standing, and the use of electronic synthesis, samples and drum beats.

Lindsey Verrill is an American avant-garde multi-instrumentalist from Dallas, Texas who currently lives in Austin, Texas.
