Charlie Lyons is an American media executive and a producer of motion pictures, television, and stage. He is the managing partner of Holding Pictures and a partner in Beacon Communications. [1] Lyons' film and stage enterprises have generated over two billion dollars in revenue and worldwide critical acclaim. He is a business partner and advisor to Kevin Costner and TIG Productions. He is also a frequent collaborator with Harrison Ford Productions.
Lyons and his companies have produced dozens of films, including Air Force One, The Water Horse, Open Range, The Guardian, Spy Game, The Family Man, Firewall, Raising Helen, A Lot Like Love, The Hurricane and Thirteen Days. Lyons executive produces and guides the multi-platform Bring It On Franchise. He was producer and presenter of Bring It On The Musical, which toured throughout the United States and overseas. Bring It On had a Broadway engagement at the Historic St. James Theater and was nominated for two Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and five Drama Desk Awards. [2] [3] [4]
Lyons is the founder and past chairman / CEO of Ascent Entertainment Group Inc., [5] a global media company. In 1990, Lyons was hired to lead the turnaround of a division of Comsat Corporation. He built the division into a public company to include On Command Corporation (the largest worldwide hotel VOD cable, satellite and Internet network), Ascent Network Services (the broadcast provider for NBC), the NBA's Denver Nuggets , the NHL's Colorado Avalanche , Colorado Studios (later known as HDNet) and Beacon Communications. Ascent developed and financed the Pepsi Center, home to over 200 live events annually. In May of 1995, Ascent acquired the Quebec Nordiques and relocated the team to Denver. The franchise was renamed the Colorado Avalanche. In 1996, they won the Stanley Cup, bringing the city its first world championship. The Avalanche won eight division titles, an NHL record, and qualified for the playoffs 10 years in a row. They hold an all-time NHL record for consecutive sellouts at home (487).
In the 1980s Lyons held numerous executive positions for the Marriott Corporation. [8]
Lyons began his career as an aide to Vice President of the United States Nelson A. Rockefeller. He worked with the Hon. William D. Rogers to finalize the Panama Canal Treaties. [9] He has served on corporate and charitable boards, including the National Basketball Association, the Women's National Basketball Association, National Hockey League, National Jewish Hospital and Gallaudet University. Lyons is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and completed the SMM Executive Program at Harvard Business School. [10] He is an instrument-rated pilot.

Joseph Steven Sakic is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player. He played his entire 21-year National Hockey League (NHL) career, which lasted from 1988 to 2009, with the Quebec Nordiques/Colorado Avalanche franchise. Named captain of the team in 1992, Sakic is regarded as one of the greatest team leaders in league history and was able to consistently motivate his team to play at a winning level. Nicknamed "Burnaby Joe", Sakic was named to play in 13 NHL All-Star Games and selected to the NHL First All-Star Team at centre three times. Sakic led the Avalanche to Stanley Cup titles in 1996 and 2001, being named the most valuable player of the 1996 playoffs, and honoured as the MVP of the NHL in 2001 by the hockey writers and his fellow players. He is one of six players to participate in the first two of the team's Stanley Cup victories, and won a third Stanley Cup with the Avalanche in 2022 while serving as the team's general manager. Sakic became only the third person, after Milt Schmidt and Serge Savard, to win a Stanley Cup with the same franchise as a player and general manager.
Anthony Lewis Granato is an American former professional ice hockey left winger and former head coach of the Wisconsin Badgers men's ice hockey team. He served as head coach of the United States men's national ice hockey team at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Previously, he also served as head coach of the National Hockey League (NHL)'s Colorado Avalanche, as well as with the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins as an assistant coach.

The 1985 New England Patriots season was the franchise's 16th season in the National Football League (NFL) and 26th overall. The Patriots had a record of eleven wins and five losses and finished third in the AFC East Division. They then became the first team in NFL history ever to advance to the Super Bowl by winning three playoff games on the road, defeating the New York Jets 26–14 in the AFC wild card game, the Los Angeles Raiders 27–20 in the AFC Divisional Game and the Miami Dolphins 31–14 in the AFC Championship game. The Patriots' win in Miami was their first victory in that stadium since 1966 and while they did defeat Miami on the road in 1969 that game was played in Tampa Bay. The win over the Dolphins in the game has gone down as one of the greatest upsets in NFL history, as the Dolphins were heavily favored.

The 1996 Stanley Cup Finals was the championship series of the National Hockey League's (NHL) 1995–96 season, and the culmination of the 1996 Stanley Cup playoffs. It was contested by the Western Conference champion Colorado Avalanche and the Eastern Conference champion Florida Panthers, two teams in the Finals for the first time. Colorado defeated Florida in a four-game sweep to win their first Stanley Cup becoming the seventh post-1967 expansion team and the second former WHA team to win the Cup. Colorado's Joe Sakic earned the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the 1996 Playoffs.

Because of the impact of Hurricane Andrew, the Dolphins' scheduled Week 1 home game against New England was moved to Week 7 because both teams already had a bye scheduled for that week and could slot the re-scheduled contest in without other changes being required.

Despite the improvement the team failed to reach the playoffs. This was also the first season the Dolphins played their home games at Joe Robbie Stadium. Their first game at Joe Robbie Stadium was scheduled to open the stadium against the defending champion New York Giants but the 1987 strike resulted in all games from Week 3 being permanently cancelled. So the first contest at the new venue involved replacement players, as 25,867 fans saw the Dolphins defeat the Kansas City Chiefs. The Dolphins finally played a 1987 home game with the regular players in Week 6, losing in overtime to the Buffalo Bills.

After suffering their first losing season under Coach Don Shula, the Dolphins bounced back to finish 10-4. Bob Griese had a stellar year, despite being forced to wear thick eyeglasses due to a problem with his contacts. Griese, whose season was highlighted by a six touchdown game in St. Louis against the Cardinals, was named Player of the year by the Maxwell Club of Philadelphia. Despite the improvement, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the third straight season.

With his career hampered by a long-term concussion, Hishon played within the Avalanche organization for four seasons and a combined total of only sixteen games before spending two years abroad in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) and Swedish Hockey League (SHL) to complete his playing career.

The Washington Commanders Marching Band is the marching band for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). Founded in 1937, they are the oldest marching band of the National Football League. They perform the fight song "Hail to the Commanders" after the team scores touchdowns at home games. The band went inactive in 2020 when the team stopped using the name "Redskins", but returned in 2022 after the team rebranded as the Commanders.

The series was between the Eastern Conference and two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Western Conference champion Colorado Avalanche. The Avalanche won the best-of-seven series, four games to two, for their third championship in franchise history. Colorado had home ice advantage in the series with the better regular season record.
