Charlotte Jones (born 2 June 1968) is a British screenwriter and playwright.

Career

Her first play Airswimming debuted in 1997 at the Battersea Arts Centre in London. Her other plays include In Flame , The Dark, The Lightning Play, and Humble Boy . Charlotte Jones wrote the book to the 2004-2006 West End musical, The Woman in White , in collaboration with the David Zippel and Andrew Lloyd Webber. [1] [2] [3]

On television, Jones wrote episodes of Always and Everyone and The Palace . She created the ITV period drama The Halcyon . It is set in 1940 and focuses on a five-star hotel at the centre of London Society and a world at war. The series was first announced on 3 December 2015, before the official cast was announced on 4 April 2016, with Steven Mackintosh and Olivia Williams playing major roles. The series was cancelled after one series. [4] In 2018, Humble Boy was revived at the Orange Tree Theatre and The Meeting debuted at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Jones will adapt Will Dean’s Tuva Moodyson novels to television for Red Planet Pictures. Rose Ayling-Ellis is attached to play the lead role. [5]

The Palace is a British drama television series that aired on ITV in 2008. Produced by Company Pictures for the ITV network, it was created by Tom Grieves and follows a fictional British Royal Family in the aftermath of the death of King James III and the succession of his 24-year-old son, King Richard IV, played by Rupert Evans. It also stars Jane Asher and Zoe Telford. The series was filmed in Lithuania in 2007 and broadcast from 14 January to 3 March 2008. Low viewing figures cancelled it after one series.

The Halcyon is a British television period drama broadcast on ITV which began airing on 2 January 2017. It was created and written by Charlotte Jones. The series focused on examining World War II London from 'a new perspective', and was set in 1940 at a five-star hotel "at the centre of London Society and a world at war", aiming to show London life "through the prism of war and the impact it has on families, politics, relationships and work across every social strata." Steven Mackintosh and Olivia Williams play major roles. The first episode was broadcast on 2 January 2017, and the series concluded on 20 February 2017.
