Chason is a small unincorporated community in northwest Calhoun County, Florida, United States. [1]

Chason is 65 miles west of Tallahassee, Florida, 53 miles south of Dothan, Alabama, and 44 miles northeast of Panama City, Florida. It is located along State Road 73 at the intersection of County Road 274 south of Willis.

Chason is located near the Chipola River and contains many ponds: Page Pond, White Pond, Burke Pond, and Todd Pond are just a few. The Florida Trail passes through Chason as it follows the course of CR 274 to the Altha trailhead, where it continues as a footpath through the Upper Chipola River Water Management Area. The surrounding countryside is notable as a large tract of Florida Scrub. Chason was directly in the path of Hurricane Michael in 2018, and many local assets sustained remarkable damage.

Vienna is an unincorporated community about 6 miles from Mississippi in Pickens County, Alabama, United States. It was a prosperous river port from the 1830s until the American Civil War, situated along the eastern shore of the Tombigbee River on the southwestern border of the county. It declined rapidly in importance with the building of a railroad through Pickens County following the war. In 1917 the post office closed and this marked the end of Vienna's official status as a town.

The Wacissa River is a large, spring-fed stream located in south-central Jefferson County, Florida. Its headwaters are located about a mile south of the town of Wacissa, where the river emerges crystal clear from a group of large limestone springs. From its headsprings, the river flows approximately 12 miles (19 km) south through a broad cypress swamp before breaking into numerous braided channels which join the Aucilla River a few miles further south. State Road 73 is a state highway in northwest Florida that runs through Calhoun and Jackson Counties, although it runs through more of the former county than the latter one. The road is always on the west side of the Chipola River, and is almost entirely two-lanes wide, except with its concurrency with US 90 in Marianna where it is four-lanes wide.
