Chaya Mughal (born 20 June 1986) is an Indian-born former cricketer who played for the United Arab Emirates national cricket team. [1]
Mughal grew up in Jammu and Kashmir. She moved to the UAE in 2009 and is a schoolteacher by profession. As of January 2022 she taught at the Ambassador School in Dubai. [2]
Before moving to the UAE, Mughal represented Jammu and Kashmir state in Indian domestic cricket. [2] In July 2018, she was named in the UAE squad for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. [3] She made her WT20I debut against Netherlands on 7 July 2018. [1]
Mughal captained UAE at the 2021 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier, with her team emerging undefeated to progress to the 2022 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier. [4] She retained the captaincy for the qualifier which the UAE hosted in September 2022. [5] In October 2022, she captained UAE team in Women's Twenty20 Asia Cup. In September 2023, it was announced that Mughal would retire from international cricket after captaining the UAE in the first match of a T20I series against Namibia. [6]

In July 2018, she was named in the UAE squad for the 2018 ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier tournament. She made her Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) for the United Arab Emirates against the Netherlands in the World Twenty20 Qualifier on 7 July 2018. In July 2018, she was named in the ICC Women's Global Development Squad. Oza holds the record of the highest score by a UAE international in limited overs cricket and is also the fastest player to reach 1,000 T20I runs in WT20Is. She reached the record when she scored 115 vs Qatar at the ACC Women's Championship 2022. In January 2023, Esha Oza was named as the ICC Women's Associate Player of the Year for 2022.

The 2022–23 Associate international cricket season was from approximately September 2022 to April 2023. All official twenty over matches between Associate members of the ICC were eligible to have full Twenty20 International (T20I) or Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) status, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) granted T20I status to matches between all of its members from 1 July 2018 and 1 January 2019. The participants were the women's national sides of United Arab Emirates, Thailand, United States and Zimbabwe. The tournament provided all four teams with preparation for the 2022 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier.
