Chester A. Franklin (born March 19, 1935) is a former American football player, coach, and executive. He won two Super Bowls in his career, both as a member of the Oakland Raiders.
Chet Franklin was born on March 19, 1935, in Ontario, Oregon. He went to Elko High School. He helped them make the State Championship his senior year and was named All-State. [1]
Franklin went to Utah for college. He was an offensive guard. He played there from 1953 to 1956. [2] He went to the Marines for 2 years before he started his coaching career.
His first season of coaching was in 1959, with the Stanford Cardinals. He was an assistant coach.
From 1960 to 1962 he served multiple roles with the Oklahoma Sooners. [3] [4]
He was named an assistant coach for the University of Colorado in 1963. [5] He was there from 1963 to 1970. He was their offensive coordinator from 1969 to 1970. In 1970, he was interviewed to be the head coach at TCU, but did not get the job. [6]
His first season of NFL coaching came in 1971, as the special teams coach of the San Francisco 49ers. [2] He was their special teams coach from 1971 to 1973. He was their defensive backs coach in 1974.
In 1975, he was named the offensive coordinator of the Kansas City Chiefs. [2] [7] He was the coordinator for two seasons. He was demoted to linebackers coach in 1977. [2]
In 1978 and 1979, he was the defensive backs coach for the New Orleans Saints. [2]
In 1980, he was named the defensive backs coach of the Oakland Raiders. He held that position for 7 seasons and won 2 Super Bowls. [2]
In 1987, he became the director of pro personnel for the San Diego Chargers. He had that position until 1990.
He was the director of pro personnel for the Berlin Thunder from 1990 to 1993.
From 1994 to 1998, he held positions with the New Orleans Saints. He was the director of PR and college scouting from 1994 to 1996, and their assistant GM from 1997 to 1998. He was going to be named the interim head coach of the Saints in 1996, but declined. [8]
In 1999 he returned to the Oakland Raiders as an executive. He was later a scout.
Super Bowl XV was an American football game between the American Football Conference (AFC) champion Oakland Raiders and the National Football Conference (NFC) champion Philadelphia Eagles to decide the National Football League (NFL) champion for the 1980 season. The Raiders defeated the Eagles by the score of 27–10, becoming the first wild card playoff team to win a Super Bowl.
Jon David Gruden is an American professional football coach who is an advisor for the Milano Seamen of the European League of Football. He held his first head coaching position with the Raiders franchise during their Oakland tenure from 1998 to 2001, where he won two consecutive division titles and made an AFC Championship Game appearance. Gruden was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2002, which he led to their first Super Bowl title in Super Bowl XXXVII the same season. At age 39, he was the then-youngest head coach to win the Super Bowl. He served as Tampa Bay's head coach through 2008, setting the franchise record for wins, but made only two further playoff runs. After his firing from the Buccaneers, Gruden was featured as an analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcasts from the 2009 to the 2017 seasons.
Kenneth Howard Norton Jr. is an American football coach and former player who is the linebackers coach for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the UCLA Bruins and was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1988 NFL draft.
William Ferdie Brown was an American professional football player, coach and administrator. He played as a cornerback for the Denver Broncos and the Oakland Raiders of the American Football League (AFL) and later in the National Football League (NFL). Following his playing career, Brown remained with the Raiders as an assistant coach. He served as the head football coach at California State University, Long Beach in 1991, the final season before the school's football program was terminated. Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a player in 1984. At the time of his death he was on the Raiders' administrative staff.

He was the defensive coordinator of the Oakland Raiders on two occasions and the Cincinnati Bengals of the National Football League (NFL) as well as the Florida Tuskers and Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League (UFL). He also served as defensive coordinator in the college ranks at the University of Central Florida, University of South Florida and University of Maine. Bresnahan also served as an assistant coach with the Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts of the NFL and the United States Naval Academy (Navy) and the Georgia Institute of Technology in the college ranks. Bresnahan also assisted in the Officiating Department of the NFL for 3 seasons. He is the son of Tom Bresnahan, a long time NFL assistant and Offensive Coordinator who coached 4 Super Bowls under Marv Levy (HOF-2001) with the Buffalo Bills.
Hue Jackson is an American football coach who was most recently the head football coach at Grambling State University until November 2023. An offensive assistant at both the collegiate and professional levels, he held coordinator positions in the National Football League (NFL) with the Washington Redskins in 2003, the Atlanta Falcons in 2007, the Oakland Raiders in 2010, and the Cincinnati Bengals from 2014 to 2015. He also served as the head coach of the Raiders in 2011 and Cleveland Browns from 2016 to 2018. Jackson compiled a 3–36–1 record with the Browns, including a winless season in 2017, which is the worst record among coaches who presided over an NFL team for at least 40 games.
Gregory Fishbeck Knapp was an American professional football coach in the National Football League (NFL). He served as an assistant coach for 25 seasons with the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers. He played college football and later coached at California State University, Sacramento.

His highlight victory during that span was 21–16 win over Penn State in 1988—Rutgers' first win over the Nittany Lions in 70 years. He played college football at Penn State, and served there as an assistant football coach for many years under Joe Paterno.
Dennis James Allen is an American football coach who is the head coach for the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League (NFL). He served as head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2012 to 2014. Allen also previously coached for the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, University of Tulsa, and his alma mater, Texas A&M University. In 2022, Allen was promoted to head coach of the Saints after spending the previous seven seasons as the team's defensive coordinator.

The 2012 Oakland Raiders season was the franchise's 43rd season in the National Football League (NFL) and the 53rd overall. It was the first season under head coach Dennis Allen, who replaced Hue Jackson, who was fired one week after the 2011 season ended. It was also the first full season without the ownership of longtime owner Al Davis, who died on October 8, 2011, and the first season with a non-Davis family member as the general manager since 1972, as Reggie McKenzie was hired from the Green Bay Packers' organization by Al Davis' son Mark on January 10 to be the general manager of the team, and was given full autonomy over the football operations. McKenzie fired Jackson on his first day and hired Allen 2 weeks later. The Raiders failed to improve on their 8–8 record in 2011, securing them into their tenth consecutive non-winning season and the tenth consecutive elimination from postseason contention. The Raiders also clinched their divisional rank, securing their fifth consecutive season since 2007 which they finished third or fourth. This was also the first time since the 2009 NFL season that the team finished with a record below 8-8. The team did however upset the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom they also defeated in the 2006 NFL season, when the Raiders finished the year 2–14 and claimed the first overall pick in the draft.
John Pagano is an American football coach who is a senior defensive assistant for the Washington Commanders of the National Football League (NFL). A longtime assistant coach with the San Diego Chargers, Pagano also coached for the Houston Texans, Oakland Raiders, Indianapolis Colts, New Orleans Saints, and Denver Broncos. He is the younger brother of former coach Chuck Pagano.
