Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout (stylized in all lowercase) is a compilation album by Nettwerk Records. It was released on June 15, 2004 as the fourth volume in Nettwerk's The Ultimate Chillout series. The album features popular releases from Nettwerk-signed artists and groups. Some of the acts on the installment include the Alpinestars, Goldfrapp, Sarah McLachlan, and Radiohead. The compilation was released in two unique CD formats on June 15, 2004 in Canada and the United States.

Critically, the album received a mixed response. Despite praise for featuring singles like "Angels" by Wax Poetic and Andain's "You Once Told Me", the inclusion of songs by Starsailor ("Four to the Floor") and Bonobo ("Pick Up") were criticized for straying away from the typical boundaries of the chill-out genre. One critic used Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout as an example of the growing popularity of chill-out music in the United States.

Background and composition

On March 31, 2001, Nettwerk Records released Chillout 2001: V.1, [1] the first volume of Chillout, a CD installment series featuring compilations of chill-out songs and music by Nettwerk-signed artists. [2] Additional installments were created over the years, including Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout, which was released by Nettwerk on June 15, 2004. [3] It is the fourth overall volume in The Ultimate Chillout portion of Nettwerk's Chillout franchise. Two separate releases occurred for the album: one in the United States where Nettwerk's main offices are located and one in Canada; the album was only made available as a CD. [4] [5] Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout was fronted by A&R and project coordinator George Maniatis, who co-authored the album's liner notes. Producer and Nettwerk executive Craig Waddell provided the mastering for the album's twelve songs. [4]

Some of the Nettwerk artists featured on Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout include Goldfrapp and Delerium. The collection opens with "Do You Realize?", a 2002 single by The Flaming Lips. Both "Do You Realize?" and Radiohead's "No Surprises" are of the atmospheric rock genre. [3] Lesser known songs from Nettwerk artists like Wax Poetic ("Angels") and Andain ("You Once Told Me") are also included on the album. "Angels" was mixed by Thievery Corporation and features guest vocals from jazz artist Norah Jones while "You Once Told Me" was described as similar in sound to the works of Massive Attack. [3] The compilation also includes several previously unreleased remixes of singles; the Marius de Vries mix of Sarah McLachlan's "World on Fire" and Carmen Rizzo's Chillout mix of Tiësto and Kirsty Hawkshaw's collaboration "Just Be" are exclusive to Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout. Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout received a mixed rating from David Jeffries, a senior editor for AllMusic. Ultimately, he awarded the compilation three out of five stars. He wrote: "[I] can't blame you if you're cautious about a collection that claims to contain 'the ultimate chillout' and is already up to volume five, but you can't beat Nettwerk's licensing muscle and their taste ain't [ sic ] bad either." [3] Although he praised the additions of "All That You Give", "Angels", and "You Once Told Me" in the collection, he disregarded "Four the Floor" and "Pick Up" for being hectic and not within the means of the chill-out genre. [3] Jody Rosen, a journalist and music writer for Slate featured the album on a list of chill-out compilations that were popular in the United States. She attributed the popularity of chill-out collections like Chillout 05/The Ultimate Chillout and others due to the introduction of satellite radio channels and outdoor concert festivals devoted to chill-out music debuting throughout the country. Skinny Puppy discography

The Canadian electro-industrial band Skinny Puppy has released twelve studio albums and two extended plays along with a number of live albums, compilations, and singles. The group formed in 1982 and released its debut EP, Back & Forth, in 1984. Later that year, Skinny Puppy was picked up by Nettwerk and released another EP, Remission, in December 1984. The band's first studio album, 1985's Bites, was its last with the original lineup of vocalist Nivek Ogre and producer / multi-instrumentalist cEvin Key; Dwayne Goettel joined in 1986, and the band released its next two albums, Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse and Cleanse Fold and Manipulate, in 1986 and 1987 respectively.

David & Steve Gordon are new-age and chill-out music recording duo, record producers and founders of the independent label Sequoia Records. They have recorded more than 25 albums ranging from traditional new-age music and ambient meditative soundscapes to shamanic drumming with Native American flute, Celtic music and world music-influenced electronica.

"Much Too Much" is the fourth release from electronica duo Andain, and the second promotional single taken from the subsequent studio album, You Once Told Me.

Sessions is a series of DJ mix albums, each album normally by a different DJ who also compiles the tracks, released by the London-based electronic dance music label Ministry of Sound. Alongside The Annual it is one of Ministry of Sound's better-known compilation album series. Not the first ever DJ mix album released, or at least first to chart in the UK.

<i>Back from the Grave, Volume 10</i>

Back from the Grave, Volume 10, released on LP in 2015, is the tenth and to this date latest installment in the Back from the Grave series of garage rock compilations. As indicated in the subheading which reads "Snarling Snotty Mid 60s Teenage Garage Punk Hoot!," this collection consists of many songs which display the rawer and more aggressive side of the genre and are often characterized by the use of fuzztone-distorted guitars and rough vocals. In typical fashion, the set generally excludes psychedelic, folk rock, and pop-influenced material in favor of basic primitive rock and roll.

<i>Deep & Chilled Euphoria</i> 2001 remix album (DJ mix album) by Red Jerry

Deep & Chilled Euphoria is a DJ mix album digitally mixed by British DJ Red Jerry as part of the Telstar TV's Euphoria series of DJ mixed dance music compilations. Released as a sequel to Jerry's previous installment in the series, Chilled Euphoria (2000), Deep & Chilled Euphoria features more of a "chill" sound than its predecessor, and features an array of ambient music from different artists. The album was described in its liner notes as "an attempt to enhance the experiences that exist in meditative states" where "rapidly produced states of deep relaxation increase suggestibility, receptivity to new information and enhance access to subconscious material," as was discovered in a 1950s study by neurologist William Grey Walter referred to in the liner notes.

Chilled Euphoria is a DJ mix album digitally mixed by British DJ Red Jerry as part of the Telstar TV's Euphoria series of DJ mixed dance music compilations. Chilled Euphoria features chill-out music, in the form of genres such as ambient music and trip hop, cross-licensed from different artists. The album was intended to be played in "post club sessions", where people chill-out in their homes listening to the album after returning home from a dance nightclub at 8 am. Some of the remixes on the album were exclusive to the album and previously unreleased, and five of them were compiled onto a double EP used to promote the album.

Ivy discography

American band Ivy has released six studio albums, one extended play (EP), fifteen singles, one promotional single, and eight music videos. After signing to Seed Records, Ivy released their debut EP, Lately, in May 1994. Their debut studio album Realistic was released in February 1995 and produced the singles "Get Enough" and "Don't Believe a Word", along with "Beautiful", which was issued as a promotional single. In 1995, a music video for "I Hate December", a song from Lately, was filmed and released. The song was then distributed as a single in January 1996. Ivy eventually left Seed and signed to Atlantic Records to record their second album Apartment Life, released in October 1997. To promote the album, "The Best Thing", "I've Got a Feeling", "This Is the Day", and "You Don't Know Anything" were made available as singles. Their third album Long Distance was released in Japan in 2000, and the next year in the United States. Three singles were promoted, including "Edge of the Ocean" which peaked at number 160 on the UK Singles Chart, marking their only appearance on that chart.
