Chonbuk Buffalo was a South Korean professional football club, based in Jeonbuk. Lasting only one year in the K League, the club was the root of the Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors. However, K League and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors officially considers Chonbuk Buffalo as a different club. [1]

History

Predecessor of Chonbuk Buffalo was established in January 1993 as Wansan Puma FC. Wansan Puma was scheduled to join the 1993 season of K League, but was postponed for one year due to draft boycott.

In 1994, Wansan Puma changed its name to Chonbuk Buffalo. Their one and only season in 1994 saw them gather only 14 points from their 30 matches, winning just three times and finishing last, before the club folded.

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors Football club

Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is a professional football club based in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. Jeonbuk play at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium in Jeonju, the capital city of the province. Jeonbuk has won the K League a record eight times, first in 2009. They have also won the Korean FA Cup four times, in 2000, 2003, 2005 and 2020. The club has won the AFC Champions League twice, first in 2006, becoming the first club from East Asia to win the tournament since the AFC Champions League was launched in its current format in 2003, and for a time being the only team in the world to have become continental champions without ever having won a domestic league title. This title guaranteed Jeonbuk's participation in the FIFA Club World Cup in December 2006. They won the second title in 2016.

Kim Do-hoon South Korean footballer

Kim Do-hoon is a South Korean professional football manager and former player. Now manager of Lion City Sailors of Singapore, he played for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Vissel Kobe, and Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma. He also played for the South Korea national team and was a participant at the 1998 FIFA World Cup. On 28 March 1999, Kim scored the only goal in a friendly match against Brazil where South Korea won, 1–0. As a result of his goal, South Korea became the first and only Asian nation to defeat Brazil. While serving as manager of Ulsan Hyundai, Kim led the team to the 2020 AFC Champions League title.

The 2020 K League 1 was the 38th season of the top division of professional football in South Korea since its establishment in 1983 as K League, and the third season under its current name, the K League 1. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors were the defending champions. They successfully defended their title and won a record-breaking eight K League championship.

The 2020 season was Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors' 28th season in the K-League in South Korea. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors is competing K League, Korean FA Cup and AFC Champions League. Jeonbuk is a defending champions of 2019 K-Keague. K League was supposed to kick off on February 29th, however, due to the coronavirus, it is not yet clear when to kick off, on May 6, the Korean Football Association announced on May 8th, match will be played behind the closed doors.
