Christopher Anthony Billy is an English retired professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He played in the Football League for Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle, Notts County, Bury and Carlisle United. He also played for Halifax Town, Farsley Celtic and Ossett Town.

Career

Billy began his career with Huddersfield Town in 1991. [2] He scored the winning goal in the Second Division play-off final at Wembley Stadium in 1995 that saw Huddersfield promoted to the First Division under the management of Neil Warnock. [3] The latter resigned within days and was appointed manager of Plymouth Argyle, who had just been relegated to the Third Division, and he signed Billy in August. He scored four goals in his first season with the club as they gained promotion via the play-offs, and made 137 appearances in all competitions during his three seasons with Argyle, scoring nine times. [4] He had a brief spell with Notts County in 1998 before being signed by Warnock again, this time for Bury. [2] He spent five seasons with Bury and amassed 178 league appearances, with 11 goals. He left Bury in 2003 and moved to Carlisle United, [1] [2] where he experienced relegation from the Football League in his first season with the club. Carlisle made a swift return from the Football Conference the following season, gaining promotion through the play-offs. Gaining back to back promotions winning league 2 the following year. Having made 142 appearances for Carlisle, Billy was transferred to Halifax Town in January 2007. [2] [5] Eight months later, he was released from his contract to join Farsley Celtic. [6] He spent time on loan with Ossett Town, having signed in February 2008, [7] before retiring as a player.

The 1995 Football League Second Division play-off Final was an association football match which was played on 28 May 1995 at Wembley Stadium, London, between Huddersfield Town and Bristol Rovers. It was to determine the second team to gain promotion from the Football League Second Division to the First Division. Only Birmingham City, the champions of the 1994–95 Football League Second Division league, gained automatic promotion to the First Division due to the reduction of the Premier League from 22 to 20 teams. The sides placed from second to fifth place in the table took part in play-offs. The winners of the play-off semi-finals competed for the final place for the 1995–96 season in the First Division. The losing semi-finalists were Brentford and Crewe Alexandra who had been defeated by Huddersfield and Bristol Rovers respectively.

Paul Warnock Evans is a retired English footballer who played as a goalkeeper for Burton Albion in the 1980s. His time with Neil Warnock at Burton began a more than 10-year relationship with Warnock in football. He would spend time as Assistant Manager at Scarborough, then coach at Notts County and Huddersfield Town. Evans was also known at these clubs as "Warnock's mate" and was seen many times in the dressing room calming Warnock down when he became angry.
