Christopher Gulaptis is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. He has represented Clarence for The Nationals since the 2011 by-election. [1] [2]
Of Macedonian background, [3] Gulaptis was born in Perth,Western Australia,and graduated with a degree in applied science from the Western Australian Institute of Technology (now Curtin University) and commenced practice as a surveyor. He moved to Clarence Valley in New South Wales in 1980,and was a councillor on Maclean Shire Council,where he also served as mayor. His service as a councillor ceased when all five local government councils in the Clarence Valley were amalgamated into one council,the Clarence Valley Council. [3]
Gulaptis successfully stood at the first Clarence Valley local government election in 2005 and served as one of nine councillors. He unsuccessfully stood for mayor of the new council in March and September 2005 and September 2006 and resigned as a councillor in 2008. [4]
Gulaptis contested the seat of Page at the 2007 federal election. Although capturing the majority of primary votes,he lost to the Labor candidate,Janelle Saffin,after distribution of preferences. Gulaptis retained his Lower Clarence residence but took employment in Queensland in the interim,and returned to the Clarence Valley when he was pre-selected as Nationals candidate in the Clarence by-election. Following the Australian greyhound racing live baiting scandal and the decision by the Baird government to ban greyhound racing NSW from 1 July 2017, [5] legislation was introduced into the NSW Legislative Assembly and Gulaptis crossed the floor to vote against the government. At the time of the vote Gulaptis was the Parliamentary Secretary for the North Coast; [2] however,the following day he was informed that was no longer a parliamentary secretary. [6]

First formed in 1991,the Greens NSW began as a state-level party before joining with other green parties in Australia to create the current federated structure.

A general election for the 56th Parliament of New South Wales (NSW) was held on Saturday 28 March 2015. Members were elected to all 93 seats in the Legislative Assembly using optional preferential voting. Members were also elected to 21 of the 42 seats in the Legislative Council using optional preferential proportional representation voting. The election was conducted by the New South Wales Electoral Commission.
A by-election was held for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly electorate of Clarence on 19 November 2011,following the resignation from parliament on 16 September of Steve Cansdell (National). Despite a large two-party-preferred swing,Nationals candidate Chris Gulaptis retained the seat.

The Australian greyhound racing live baiting scandal is a series of events that occurred in at least three Australian states where live baiting of racing greyhounds was exposed on ABC TV and in The Sydney Morning Herald. On 16 February 2015,the Australian television current affairs program Four Corners revealed the use of live piglets,possums and rabbits to train racing greyhounds had been occurring over some years,despite self-regulatory efforts to address the issue. The revelation led to suspensions,inquiries,widespread condemnation of the practice,and,following an inquiry,to the banning of greyhound racing in New South Wales from July 2016,and consequently,the Australian Capital Territory as well. The NSW ban was reversed on 11 October 2016,with conditions.
The Second Baird ministry was the 95th ministry of the Government of New South Wales,and was led by Mike Baird,the state's 44th Premier. It is the second and subsequent of two occasions when Baird served as Premier.

A by-election for the seat of Orange in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly was held on 12 November 2016. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Nationals MP Andrew Gee on 6 May to contest the division of Calare at the 2016 federal election. The by-election was won by Philip Donato of the Shooters,Fishers and Farmers Party—the first seat won by the party in a state lower house.
James Henry Griffin is an Australian politician. Griffin has served as the New South Wales Minister for Environment and Heritage in the Perrottet ministry since December 2021. He is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electoral district of Manly for the Liberal Party. Griffin was elected on 8 April 2017 at the Manly state by-election held to replace the previous member,former Premier of New South Wales Mike Baird.
