Jai Travers Rowell,an Australian former politician,was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Wollondilly for the Liberal Party from 2011 to 2018. In April 2014 Rowell was appointed as Minister for Mental Health and Assistant Minister for Health during the Cabinet reshuffle under Premier Mike Baird. Under Gladys Berejiklian as Premier,Rowell was appointed as Special Adviser to the Premier and the NSW Government on Science,Industry and Innovation,a first of its kind. Rowell was the first Liberal Indigenous member of the NSW Legislative Assembly. Rowell has been appointed by Western Sydney University as a Fellow of Law.
The 2015 New South Wales state election was held on Saturday 28 March 2015. Members were elected to all 93 seats in the Legislative Assembly using optional preferential voting. Members were also elected to 21 of the 42 seats in the Legislative Council using optional preferential proportional representation voting. The election was conducted by the New South Wales Electoral Commission.
The Animal Justice Party (AJP) is a political party in Australia founded in 2009 by Steve Garlick. The party was registered by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) on 3 May 2011. The party is also registered in New South Wales,Queensland,South Australia,Victoria,Western Australia,Tasmania,Northern Territory,and the Australian Capital Territory. The AJP is the first political party in Australia formed solely to advance animal welfare issues.
The Australian greyhound racing live baiting scandal is a series of events that occurred in at least three Australian states where live baiting of racing greyhounds was exposed on ABC TV and in The Sydney Morning Herald. On 16 February 2015,the Australian television current affairs program Four Corners revealed the use of live piglets,possums and rabbits to train racing greyhounds had been occurring over some years,despite self-regulatory efforts to address the issue. The revelation led to suspensions,inquiries,widespread condemnation of the practice,and,following an inquiry,to the banning of greyhound racing in New South Wales from July 2016,and consequently,the Australian Capital Territory as well. The NSW ban was reversed on 11 October 2016,with conditions.
The Second Baird ministry was the 95th ministry of the Government of New South Wales,and was led by Mike Baird,the state's 44th Premier. It is the second and subsequent of two occasions when Baird served as Premier.
A by-election for the seat of Orange in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly was held on 12 November 2016. The by-election was triggered by the resignation of Nationals MP Andrew Gee on 6 May to contest the division of Calare at the 2016 federal election. The by-election was won by Philip Donato of the Shooters,Fishers and Farmers Party—the first seat won by the party in a state lower house.
James Henry Griffin is an Australian politician. He is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electoral district of Manly for the Liberal Party. Griffin was the New South Wales Minister for Environment and Heritage in the Second Perrottet ministry from December 2021 to March 2023.
