Michael John Johnsen is an Australian former politician who served in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Upper Hunter for the Nationals from 2015 to 2021. [1]

Johnsen served as Mayor for the Upper Hunter Shire Council from 2009 to 2012 and previously contested the seat of Hunter for the Nationals at the 1996, 2010 and 2013 federal elections. [2]

Johnsen was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in March 2015 "after a traditional Nationals family values election campaign in which his wife featured prominently." [3]

Johnsen announced he was standing aside temporarily on 24 March 2021 due to an ongoing police investigation into a rape allegation against him. He stood aside from his role as parliamentary secretary, and moved to the crossbench and did not sit in the Nationals nor the joint party room. [4] Following further allegations of inappropriate conduct in Parliament House, Johnsen resigned from parliament on 31 March 2021. [5]

Personal life

Michael Johnsen married Zenda Casey in November 1985 and the couple had two children. [6] The marriage ended in late 2015, nine months after Johnsen's election as the member for Upper Hunter. [3]

Daryl William Maguire is a former Australian politician who was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Wagga Wagga for the Liberal Party from 1999 to 2018. On 30 March 2011, Maguire was appointed to Government Whip in the O'Farrell-Stoner Liberal/National coalition government; he had been Opposition Whip for the Coalition since 2003. On 13 July 2018, after admitting at a corruption inquiry that he sought payment over a property deal, Maguire resigned from the Liberal Party and resigned from Parliament on 3 August. Between 2013 and August 2020, Maguire had a close personal relationship with Gladys Berejiklian, who became Premier of New South Wales during that time.

Shaoquett Chaher Moselmane is an Australian politician who has been a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 2009 and is a member of the parliamentary Australian Labor Party. He was assistant president of the Legislative Council from May 2019 to April 2020.

Luke Foley Australian Labor Party politician

Luke Aquinas Foley is a former Australian Labor Party politician who served as the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of New South Wales from 2015 to 2018. Foley was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council since 19 June 2010 until his resignation to contest the Legislative Assembly seat of Auburn at the 2015 New South Wales election. Foley resigned after it was alleged that he had indecently assaulted an ABC journalist. Foley denies the allegations.

Andrew Stuart Cornwell is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from the 2011 election until 2014, representing the electorate of Charlestown. He was elected as a Liberal Party candidate, and represented that party until 6 August 2014, when he moved to the parliamentary crossbench and sat as an independent after the Independent Commission Against Corruption heard evidence that Cornwell may have breached electoral funding laws. After earlier announcing that would not contest his seat at the next state election, on 12 August 2014 Cornwell resigned from parliament with immediate effect triggering the 2014 Charlestown by-election.

Giovanni Domenic "John" Barilaro is an Australian politician who has been the 18th Deputy Premier of New South Wales and the New South Wales Leader of The Nationals since November 2016. He has been the Minister for Regional New South Wales, Industry and Trade in the second Berejiklian ministry since April 2019, and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing the electoral district of Monaro since 2011.

David Andrew Elliott, an Australian politician, is the New South Wales Minister for Police and Emergency Services in the second Berejiklian ministry since April 2019. Elliott is a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly representing Baulkham Hills for the Liberal Party since 2011.

Jeremy Nova Buckingham is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2011 to 2019. He was a Greens member from 2011 to 2018, but resigned from the party on 20 December 2018. He was unsuccessful in retaining his seat in the Legislative Council in the 2019 state election.

The 2019 New South Wales state election was held on Saturday 23 March 2019 to elect the 57th Parliament of New South Wales, including all 93 seats in the Legislative Assembly and 21 of the 42 seats in the Legislative Council. The 2021 Upper Hunter by-election was held on 22 May 2021 to elect the next Member of Parliament for the district of Upper Hunter in the Legislative Assembly. The by-election was triggered following the resignation of incumbent Nationals MP Michael Johnsen on 31 March 2021.
