Chris Okoh (born 8 April 1969) is a former British cruiserweight boxer.

Biography

Background

Okoh was born in Croydon, [1] [2] to Gloria Okoh. [3] His father died whilst he was still a child. [3]

Boxing career

Okoh's professional boxing record stands at 14 wins, seven by way of knock-out and two losses in 16 bouts. [1] [2] He is the former BBBofC Southern Area and Commonwealth title holder at cruiserweight. [1] [2]

After boxing

Okoh studied to work with rehabilitating offenders and probation in 2002. [3] He is also a trainer at Chadwell St Mary Amateur Boxing Club in Chadwell St Mary, Thurrock, Essex. [4]

He was the first boxer to hold unified cruiserweight title since Evander Holyfield in 1988, and the first fighter to hold The Ring cruiserweight title since Carlos De León in 1987. He was ranked by BoxRec as the world's top 10 cruiserweight from 2001 to 2005 and in 2007, and was ranked No.1 in 2003 and 2004. Franco "Thunderbird" Wanyama in Kampala, was a Ugandan amateur middleweight and professional cruiser/heavyweight boxer of the 1980s, '90s and 2000s. He was an amateur representative of Uganda at middleweight in the Boxing at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, losing to eventual bronze medal winner Chris Sande of Kenya, and as a professional won the BeNeLux heavyweight title, BeNeLux cruiserweight title, Commonwealth cruiserweight title, and World Boxing Federation (WBF) cruiserweight title, and was a challenger for the Commonwealth cruiserweight title against Chris Okoh, his professional fighting weight varied from 181 lb, i.e. cruiserweight to 192 lb, i.e. heavyweight.
