Chris Vos (born 25 February 1998 in Haarlem, Netherlands) is a Dutch para-snowboarder. At age five Vos got into an accident which resulted in his right leg being paralyzed. Vos currently lives in Noordbeemster, Netherlands. He has a relationship with Lisa Bunschoten. [2] [6]

Education

Vos follows an MBO education at the Johan Cruyff College, Nijmegen, Netherlands. [3]

Career

Vos made his debut in April 2011 during the World Cup in Ocieres, France. [1]

Winter Paralympics

Vos qualified for the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sotsji, Russia. He did this by coming in fourth in the Europa Cup in Landgraaf, Netherlands. [2] He participated in the boardercross event where he ranked 13th. [3]

Vos again qualified for the 2018 Winter Paralympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea where he participated in boardercross and banked slalom. He won a silver medal in the boardercross event. [3]

Vos and Lisa Bunschoten were the flagbearers for the Netherlands during the opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Paralympics in Beijing, China. [7] [8] He won the silver medal in the men's banked slalom SB-LL1 event. [9]

X Games

In 2015, Vos was invited to participate in the X Games. The X Games are an annual event held in Aspen, Colorado, U.S. The event is invite only. Vos reached the finals and ultimately ranked 8th. He was invited once more in 2016. [10]

Outside sport

Vos has served as an ambassador for the Johan Cruyff Foundation in the Netherlands. [10]

In 2010, Vos participated in a Dutch TV show called Cappies Award which was broadcast by TROS and presented by Lucille Werner. The show aimed to show the things handicapped children could do, rather than the things they couldn't. In the show Vos was introduced to Bibian Mentel who gave him a medal for his effort. Mentel proclaimed that she hoped that she and Vos would participate in the 2014 Winter Paralympics together, which happened. [10]

Vos is a member of the Mentelity Foundation, a foundation that seeks to get children with a handicap to participate in sport. [10]

Joany Badenhorst is a South African-born Australian Paralympian who was selected to compete in Para-snowboard cross at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. She would have been the first female snowboarder to represent Australia at the Winter Paralympics, but was forced to withdraw from her event after injuring her left knee on the morning of the event. In February 2018, she was selected in the Australian team to compete at the 2018 Winter Paralympics.

Bibian Mentel-Spee was a Dutch three-fold Winter Paralympics gold-medalist, and five-times world champion para-snowboarding athlete. Mentel won the Paralympic gold medal in the snowboard cross discipline in the 2014 and 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, as well as in the banked slalom in 2018, despite battling cancer nine times since the beginning of the century. She won her 2018 medals at age 45.

Lisa Bunschoten, Bibian Mentel and Chris Vos all competed at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi. Renske van Beek was the only snowboarder on Team Netherlands who did not go to Sochi.

Jeroen Kampschreur is a Dutch paralympic skier. Kampschreur was born without shinbones, which resulted in both of his legs being amputated above the knee at age one. Consequently, he began using a wheelchair. On 23 March 2018, Kampschreur was knighted in the Order of Orange-Nassau.

Cécile Hernandez is a French para-snowboarder and four-time Paralympic medallist, with a gold medal from Beijing 2022, a silver medal from Sochi 2014 and both a silver and a bronze from PyeongChang 2018. The Netherlands sent a delegation to compete at the 2014 Winter Paralympics in Sochi, Russia, held between 7–16 March 2014. The Netherlands delegation consisted of seven competitors, all of which were competing in sports under the alpine skiing banner. Alex Massie is a Canadian para-snowboarder who competes in the SB-LL2 category.

Maxime Montaggioni is a French para-snowboarder and parataekwondo practitioner. Born without a right hand, he competes in the SB-UL category. Montaggioni is six-time medallist at the World Para Snowboard Championships and a bronze medalist at the World Para Taekwondo Championships.
