Christian Baldini is an American, Italian and Argentine opera and orchestra conductor and composer. He was born in Mar del Plata (Argentina) on August 25, 1978. His CD "Mozart Arias and Overtures" [1] conducting the Scottish Chamber Orchestra [2] with soprano Elizabeth Watts was chosen as "Recording of the Month" by the BBC Music Magazine and MusicWeb International, CD of the Week by Classic FM, and received critical acclaim with 4- and 5-star reviews on Gramophone, [3] Sinfini, The Guardian [4] and Opera News. Baldini served as an assistant conductor with the BBC Symphony Orchestra in London, and as a cover conductor for Michael Tilson Thomas and the San Francisco Symphony. In 2015, invited by Michael Tilson Thomas, Baldini conducted the first ever performance of a work by John Luther Adams with the San Francisco Symphony. [6] Baldini has conducted opera for the Aldeburgh Festival (founded by Benjamin Britten), the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires (Dallapiccola's [7] Il prigioniero and Volo di notte, [8] and the world première of Oscar Strasnoy's opera Requiem). [9] He has been the conductor of the Mondavi Center's yearly Rising Stars of Opera program since 2009, featuring wonderful operatic young talent from the San Francisco Opera Ader Fellows Program, including many winners of international competitions such as Brian Jagde, Pene Pati, David Lomelí, Nadine Sierra, Sean Pannikar, and Leah Crocetto. The San Francisco Symphony, founded in 1911, is an American orchestra based in San Francisco, California. Since 1980 the orchestra has been resident at the Louise M. Davies Symphony Hall in the city's Hayes Valley neighborhood. The San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra and the San Francisco Symphony Chorus (1972) are part of the organization. Benjamin Shwartz is an American-Israeli orchestral and opera conductor, and music director of the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie, Koblenz (Germany). Formerly he held the position of music director of the Wrocław Philharmonic known for his interest in and commitment to new music. Born in Los Angeles and raised there and in Israel, he attended the Idyllwild Arts Academy in California before enrolling in the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied composition with James Primosch. He continued his composition studies in Germany with Karlheinz Stockhausen. As a conducting student at the Curtis Institute of Music, he studied with Otto-Werner Mueller and worked closely with Christoph Eschenbach and Ned Rorem. Shwartz won numerous awards including the Presser Award, and Third Prize in the 2007 International Mahler Conducting Competition in Bamberg, Germany.

Arias and Barcarolles is a 78-minute contemporary classical studio album of music by Leonard Bernstein, performed by Thomas Hampson, Frederica von Stade, Simon Carrington, Neil Percy and the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. It is a follow-up to S&M, a live collaborative album released in 1999. The album was recorded during a live performance in San Francisco at the Chase Center in 2019.
