An adaptable cricketer, he appeared for Cumberland and Warwickshire as a wicket-keeper, but when he moved to Somerset he developed into an aggressive batsman who bowled at medium-pace when needed.
James William Cecil Turner was an English first-class cricketer who played 46 matches for Worcestershire either side of the First World War, as well as appearing twice for H. K. Foster's XI.
Frank Henry Vigar was an English cricketer who played first-class cricket for Essex between 1938 and 1954. A right-handed batsman, and leg break bowler, Vigar served as an all-rounder with 8,858 runs at 26.28 and 241 wickets at 37.90. From his rained-off debut in 1938, Vigar went on to play 257 matches for his county. His greatest success came in the "golden summer" of 1947, where he scored 1,735 runs and took 64 wickets. A partnership with Peter Smith of 218 for the final wicket remains an Essex record.
Robert Irving "Rob" Newton is an English cricketer who played for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club. He is an aggressive right-handed top order batsman. Newton enjoyed a prolific cricket record while at school and was tipped by The Wisden Cricketer as 'one to watch'. He made his Northamptonshire first-team debut in 2009.
Ralph Stewart Cowan is an English former cricketer. Cowan was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He also occasionally fielded as a wicket-keeper. He was born at Hameln, Lower Saxony, West Germany.
The 2013 County Championship season, known as the LV= County Championship for sponsorship reasons, was the 114th cricket County Championship season. It was contested through two divisions: Division One and Division Two. Each team played all the others in their division both home and away. Durham were County Champions for the third time in six seasons. The top two teams from Division Two, Lancashire and Northamptonshire, gained promotion to the first division for the 2014 season, while the bottom two sides from Division One—Derbyshire and Surrey—were relegated to Division Two for 2014.
Christopher John "Chris" Aworth is a retired cricketer for Surrey and Cambridge University. A left-handed batsman and occasional left-arm spin bowler born in Wimbledon, Aworth played for Surrey's Second XI from 1971 before appearing for Cambridge against the MCC in 1972 and making his first-class debut for them against Warwickshire in 1973. In July 1974 he was selected for Surrey's First XI and debuted against Lancashire. He would play twenty-eight County Championship matches for Surrey, as well as eighteen one day games in the John Player League and Benson and Hedges Cup. He scored 67 in the semi-final of the 1976 Benson & Hedges Cup. For Cambridge he made thirty-one appearances in total. Across his first-class career, he scored 2,552 runs including three centuries. His professional career ended in 1976 with matches against the British Army.
Basil Mohammad Ramzan Akram is an English first-class cricketer. Born at Waltham Forest, Essex, Akram is a right-handed batsman who bowls right-arm fast-medium.
Philip Dean Salt is a Welsh cricketer who plays for Sussex County Cricket Club. Primarily an aggressive right-handed opening batsman, he also bowls right-arm medium-pace. Salt made his international debut for the England cricket team in July 2021.
Michael Gregory Kerran Burgess is an English cricketer who plays for Warwickshire County Cricket Club. A wicketkeeper batsman, Burgess came through the Surrey Academy, making a total of 31 appearances at 2nd XI level between 2011 and 2013.
The 2017 Royal London One-Day Cup tournament was a limited overs cricket competition that forms part of the 2017 domestic cricket season in England and Wales. Matches were contested over 50 overs per side and had List A cricket status. All eighteen First-class counties competed in the tournament which ran from the end of April with the final taking place at Lord's on 1 July. Nottinghamshire won the tournament, defeating Surrey in the final. The defending champions were Warwickshire.
The 2018 County Championship, known as the 2018 Specsavers County Championship for sponsorship reasons, is the 119th cricket County Championship season. As in 2017, Division One has eight teams and Division Two has ten teams, with two teams relegated and two promoted at the end of the season.
The 2019 County Championship, known for sponsorship reasons as the 2019 Specsavers County Championship, was the 120th cricket County Championship season. As in 2018, Division One had eight teams and Division Two had ten teams. The first round of matches began on 5 April and the final round of matches ended on 26 September. Surrey were the defending champions. At the end of the 2019 season only one team was relegated with three promoted. Therefore, from 2020 onwards, Division One would feature ten teams and Division Two would feature eight.
