Christopher McGuire (born November 28, 1975) is an American drum set player, session drummer, drum teacher, and producer. He is based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, United States.
Christopher McGuire was raised in a musical family. His mother is a singer and his father is an organist. [1] He grew up in Oxford, Ohio, United States.
In 1992, McGuire and other long-time friends and Oxford natives began the band 12 Rods. The group moved to Minneapolis in 1995. McGuire served as the drummer for the band from the start of their career until late September 1999 when he left the group.
In the summer of 2003, McGuire was hired as a support musician by Japanese band Quruli (くるり) to temporarily fill the position of drummer for the group for summer festival performances. However, in November 2003 he was hired by Quruli as a full-time member. [2] He continued on with the group, both recording and touring, for the next 11 months. In October 2004 it was announced that Christopher would be leaving Quruli due to creative differences. [3] Since his departure, the group has only filled the position of drummer with temporary support musicians.
He is also the ex-drummer for American band Kid Dakota.

As a producer, McGuire produced Tokyo band Squadcar's second CD while in Japan. He noted the experience as "killer". He has also done production work for Minneapolis bands Barfly and Great Girls Blouse.
McGuire is currently a member of the band Puppies who are from his native Oxford. [4]
He is often recognized by his highly positioned crash cymbal.
In November 2009, McGuire returned to Japan to perform with Japanese band Luminous Orange at a few of their concerts and record with them in the studio. One of the tracks he recorded, titled "Yueqin Spring Moon", is featured on the band's latest release Songs of Innocence. [5]

He is the owner and founder of Tiny Telephone, an analog recording studio with locations in San Francisco Mission District and North Oakland. The Mountain Goats are an American band formed in Claremont, California, by singer-songwriter John Darnielle. The band is currently based in Durham, North Carolina. For many years, the sole member of the Mountain Goats was Darnielle, despite the plural moniker. We Shall All Be Healed is the eighth studio album by The Mountain Goats. The album focuses on semi-fictional accounts of band leader John Darnielle's years as a teenager, particularly his friends' and acquaintances' experiences in California and in Portland, Oregon, as methamphetamine addicts. As The Mountain Goats' official website puts it: "All of the songs on We Shall All Be Healed are based on people John used to know. Most of them are probably dead or in jail by now." Like Tallahassee, but unlike the rest of Darnielle's repertoire up to its release, We Shall All Be Healed was recorded with a full band in a recording studio, and produced by John Vanderslice, as opposed to The Mountain Goats' previous practice of recording at home on a boom box with, at most, one or two backup vocalists or a bassist. "Palmcorder Yajna", when played in concert, is often played with the backing of members of one or more of the opening acts on tour with The Mountain Goats. The song "Cotton" was featured in an episode of the television series Weeds.

He produced or engineered dozens of records including works by prominent artists such as The Jayhawks, The Replacements, Motion City Soundtrack, Soul Asylum, Golden Smog, Dave Davies of The Kinks, Wesley Stace, Mason Jennings, Mark Mallman, John Strohm, Brian Setzer, Lizzo, Pete Yorn, The Wallflowers, Rhett Miller of The Old 97s, Jeremy Messersmith, and Juliana Hatfield. He owned a recording studio in Minneapolis, Flowers, and co-founded the Susstones record label. Ackerson led several notable Twin Cities pop/rock bands including Polara and The 27 Various, and released several solo records under his own name. He was also a prolific producer of albums by Twin Cities bands, and was regarded as one of the linchpins of the Minnesota music scene.
