Christopher Reutinger (born September 10, 1946 in San Diego, California) is an American musician, composer, arranger, author and teacher. He is a violinist.
Reutinger began to study music composition at the age of seven with his English mother Joan Reutinger, 5th cousin of Lady Diana Spencer[ citation needed ] and a famous Berkeley and San Diego concert pianist. [1] At the age of nine, he began to study violin, and by the age of 12 his compositions were being performed by the San Diego Symphony. [1] In 1957 the San Diego Symphony performed his original composition: "18th Century", and the following year, in 1958, the San Diego Symphony orchestra debuted his original composition "Gigue".[ citation needed ] His senior year at Point Loma High School, he was selected to be the Concertmaster of the San Diego All City's High School Orchestra in 1964.[ citation needed ]
Reutinger won a full scholarship to San Francisco State University to be part of the school's flagship music ensemble The Morrison Quartet. [1] The quartet appeared on San Francisco local KPIX CBS every Sunday in the show: "Molnar on Music" hosted by the renowned violist Frenrick Molnar. He also studied with Naoum Blinder pupil and San Francisco Symphony Concertmaster Fank Houser.[ citation needed ] Transferring to the University of California at Berkeley he studied composition with Roger Sessions before graduating in 1970.[ citation needed ] Because of student unrest at SF State and Berkeley, when his parents wanted him to return home, Chris became the Father of California Street Music in 1969 for survival.[ citation needed ] He was the first to play classical violin in the streets of San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles before anyone else and was written up in Rolling Stone Magazine as such.[ citation needed ] During this period he also performed with the Oakland Symphony. As a graduate student at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California, Reutinger studied violin with renowned violinist Alice Schoenfeld. He was also asked by conductor Daniel Lewis to be part of the elite USC String Orchestra.
Winning an audition to be a first violinist with the Honolulu Symphony in 1972, he spent one season in Hawaii before returning to Los Angeles to begin a career in live performances and studio recordings. To date, he has contributed to over 550 motion pictures scores and over 450 record/CDs. He has recorded and performed with Elton John, Barry Manilow, Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Roy Orbison where he appears as the bearded violinist on the Cinemax TV Special "Black and White Night", Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Beck, Natalie Cole, Andrea Bocelli, Jewel, and Michael Feinstein, to name a few. Reutinger was a founding member of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra conducted by John Mauceri. He has performed with numerous other symphonies. Chris also trained actors for TV and the big screen. He trained British Actor Simon Templeman to fake violin on screen for 4 episodes of "Northern Exposure," and was the on screen finger double. He trained a 5 year old Makenzie Vega (daughter to The Good Wife TV Show) to perform violin on screen for the Nicolas Cage film, "Family Man." In the early 90s he composed 22 "source Tunes," for Warner Brothers TV and Movies. His most used tune: "Vivaldi Gets Lucky," appears on Walker, Texas Ranger, and other movies of the week. His string arrangement for "Silverplated" and his violin/viola performances appear on Granite Records recording artist Geoff Byrd's new CD: "Shrinking Violets". Reutinger recently composed and performed the music to accompany the interpretive dances for the prototype for "Artists for Trauma", a non-profit founded by Laura T.Sharpe of "The Laura Project". Jascha Heifetz was a Russian-born American violinist. Born in Vilnius, he moved while still a teenager to the United States, where his Carnegie Hall debut was rapturously received. He was a virtuoso since childhood. Fritz Kreisler, another leading violinist of the twentieth century, said after hearing Heifetz's debut, "We might as well take our fiddles and break them across our knees." He had a long and successful performing career; however, after an injury to his right (bowing) arm, he switched his focus to teaching.

Frank Xin Huang is a Chinese-born American violinist and teacher. Since 2015 he has been the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic. Previous to his position in New York, Huang was the first violinist of the Ying Quartet and a professor of violin and chamber music at the Eastman School of Music, then served as the concertmaster of the Houston Symphony from 2010 to 2015. He has won several international music competitions, most notably the 2003 Naumburg Competition. Huang has concertized widely as a soloist, and his debut recording on Naxos was critically acclaimed.

Igor Gruppman is a Ukrainian violinist and conductor. He is the Principal Conductor of the Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, a position he has held since 2003. In May 2009, Igor Gruppman was appointed by Valery Gergiev to the position of Music Director of the newly formed Mariinsky Stradivary Orchestra. He currently also is Concertmaster of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
The New Century Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1992 by cellist, Miriam Perkoff, and violist, Wieslaw Pogorzelski. The goal of the founders was to present classical music in a fresh and unique way in the San Francisco Bay Area. The music director chooses the programs and guides the artistic vision and leads the seventeen members of the orchestra as part of a conductorless orchestra. Musical decisions are made collaboratively, in the goal of enhancing the level of commitment on the part of the musicians and increasing the precision, passion and power of their playing.

Daniel Kobialka was an American violinist, composer, and music entrepreneur.
Andor John Toth was an American classical violinist, conductor and educator with a musical career spanning over six decades. Toth played his violin on the World War II battlefields of Aachen, Germany; performed with the NBC Symphony Orchestra under Arturo Toscanini in 1943 at age 18; and formed several chamber music ensembles, including the Oberlin String Quartet, the New Hungarian Quartet, and the Stanford String Quartet. For 15 years he was the violinist in the Alma Trio. Toth conducted orchestras in Cleveland, Denver and Houston. In 1969, he was the founding concertmaster of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra under Neville Marriner. Toth taught at five important colleges and universities, and recorded for Vox, Decca Records and Eclectra Records.
Quartet San Francisco is a non-traditional and eclectic string quartet led by violinist and String Masters co-founder Jeremy Cohen. The group played their first concert in 2001 and has recorded five albums. Playing a wide range of music genres including jazz, blues, tango, swing, funk, and pop, the group challenges the traditional classical music foundation of the string quartet.
William (Bill) Barbini is an American violinist. He took his diploma from Juilliard School in 1970, studying with Ivan Galamian among others. He thereafter became one of the youngest members selected to the New York Philharmonic violin section. During his tenure with the NY Philharmonic, Barbini also performed as principal violinist with the Gramercy String Quartet. With Barbini as principal, the Gramercy was commissioned by Pierre Boulez for a number of pre-concert performances at Avery Fisher Hall. While in New York, Barbini also served as concertmaster for the Joffrey Ballet and soloist with the Festival Orchestra at the Norwalk Performing Arts Festival.
Andrés Cárdenes is a Cuban-born violinist, violist, teacher, conductor, and concertmaster. He has performed and taught in a number of prominent positions, including his current professorship in violin at Carnegie Mellon University School of Music where he holds the Dorothy Richard Starling & Alexander Speyer Jr. Endowed Chair. He is also the current Artistic Director of the Carnegie Mellon University Philharmonic.
David Chan is an American violinist and a concertmaster of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. In recent years he has become active as a conductor.
Noah Bendix-Balgley is an American classical violinist. He is currently First Concertmaster with the Berliner Philharmoniker. He served as concertmaster of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra from 2011 to 2014.
Gregory T.S. Walker is an American composer, violinist, and guitarist. He was the recipient of the American Academy of Arts and Letters Charles Ives Fellowship in 2000, and has performed with major orchestras around the world.
