Christus is a public artwork by an unknown artist located in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis, Indiana in the United States.
The work is made of marble and stands at 5 feet 7 inches (1.70 m). Built around 1960, it depicts Jesus Christ standing and wearing a robe and mantle. His head is bowed slightly and his eyes are closed. His arms are stretched in front of him with the palms of his hands facing upwards towards the sky. It stands upon a base made of brick and stone. The piece was surveyed in 1993 by Save Outdoor Sculpture!. It was described as being "well maintained." [1]
Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen was a Danish and Icelandic sculptor and medalist of international fame, who spent most of his life (1797–1838) in Italy. Thorvaldsen was born in Copenhagen into a working-class Danish/Icelandic family, and was accepted to the Royal Danish Academy of Art at the age of eleven. Working part-time with his father, who was a wood carver, Thorvaldsen won many honors and medals at the academy. He was awarded a stipend to travel to Rome and continue his education.
The Pensive Christ is a subject in Christian iconography depicting a contemplating Jesus, sitting with his head supported by his hand with the Crown of Thorns and marks of his flagellation. It is, therefore, a picture of Jesus shortly before his crucifixion, although more an andachtsbild or devotional subject than intended to show an actual moment in the narrative of the Passion of Christ. The Pensive Christ is much more common in sculpture than in painting, where the similar Man of Sorrows is more often depicted.

He stands on clouds and thorns, and it is mounted to a base of brick and limestone. Constructed just after 1960, it was on display at Alverna Retreat House in Indianapolis. In 1992 the sculpture was relocated to its current location at Sacred Heart Church.
