Cigar is an American punk rock band from Eugene, Oregon, and, later, San Diego, California, United States. Cigar was formed in 1996, discovered by Fletcher Dragge of the band Pennywise and signed to Theologian Records in 1997. Its first album, Speed is Relative, was released in 1999 and produced by Fletcher Dragge. [1] [2] [3] The band also appeared on several punk compilations and surf and skate videos (including Toy Machine's "Jump off a Building" during Chris Senn's part). [4]

History

In 1996, Jon Sortland (currently sponsored by Paiste [5] and C&C Drums [6] ), alias "Big Jon" (The Shins, Broken Bells, [7] Circus Tents) and Jason Torbert (Goddamn Electric Bill) met through the local classified advertisements. Following this, Jeff Jones (Circus Tents) joined the band as a guitarist. Badly needing a singer, Sortland, then working at a local movie theater, asked everyone who came in if they would like to be in a band and Rami Krayem was found. After recording the first demos, Jones left the band and Krayem took over on guitar.

Reunion

In 2013 and in 2016, Cigar reunited to headline a benefit show for Music 4 Cancer in Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada. [8] [9] In 2014, Cigar headed back to Quebec to play Amnesia Rockfest alongside bands including Blink 182, Weezer, Alice in Chains, and more. [10] [11] [12]

Lineup change

In June 2019, after 23 years in Cigar, Jason Torbert announced on Cigar's Facebook page, [13] that he left the band in January 2019 to "focus on my family and continue to make music when possible." Bassist Jonathan Hischke replaced Torbert shortly after. In 2022, Cigar released their debut Fat Wreck Chords release, The Visitor. [14]

The Circus Tents were an American band active from 1989 to 1993 from Grass Valley, California, United States. It consisted of Matt Wedgley as the lead vocalist, Jon Sortland on drums, Chad Cox on bass, Scot Pickering and Jeff Jones on guitar. They released a 12 song self-titled cassette tape in 1990 and a 4 song 7" record titled Hard Up on Insurrection Records in 1992. They had a couple of songs featured on early Powell Peralta skate videos for Chris Senn. They achieved international publicity when Billie Joe Armstrong put a Circus Tents sticker on his guitar and AFI covered their song "Open Your Eyes" on their record Answer That and Stay Fashionable. The Circus Tents also recorded the song "I Hate Cops" by The Authorities for an unreleased tribute album to The Authorities, which also featured the bands Screeching Weasel and The Meatmen.

The Reunion Tour is a concert tour by Swedish post-hardcore band Refused, celebrating the band's reunion, after breaking-up in 1998. The tour began with a secret warm-up shows in the band's hometown of Umeå on 29 February 2012, as well as another small show in Stockholm, on 30 March, after which the band headed to start the official tour, in the United States.

The We Are Pirates Tour is a concert tour by American rock band Blink-182 in support of the group's seventh studio album, California (2016). It consisted of festival and amphitheater dates and ran between May 14 and July 10, 2016, in North America. Support acts included All Time Low, Hawthorne Heights, Simple Plan, and the Used on select dates. Aside from the few club shows and the Musink Festival in 2015, the We Are Pirates tour was their first with guitarist and vocalist Matt Skiba and their first without founding member Tom DeLonge.
