Clarence Allison Darrow (born March 22,1940) is an American politician and lawyer. He served in the Illinois House of Representatives and Illinois Senate.
Darrow was born in Dubuque,Iowa. He received his bachelor's degree from Loras College. Darrow received his masters's degree in social work from University of Illinois and his law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He was admitted to the Illinois bar. Darrow lived in Rock Island,Illinois,with his wife and family and practiced law in Rock Island. He served as an assistant state's attorney for Rock Island County,Illinois from 1971 to 1974. Darrow served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1975 to 1983 and in the Illinois Senate from 1983 to 1987. He was a Democrat. Darrow served as an Illinois Circuit Court judge. Clarence Seward Darrow was an American lawyer who became famous in the early 20th century for his involvement in the Leopold and Loeb murder trial and the Scopes trial. He was a leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union and a prominent advocate for Georgist economic reform.
John Peter Altgeld was an American politician and the 20th Governor of Illinois, serving from 1893 until 1897. He was the first Democrat to govern that state since the 1850s. A leading figure of the Progressive movement, Altgeld signed workplace safety and child labor laws, pardoned three of the men convicted in the Haymarket Affair, and rejected calls in 1894 to break up the Pullman strike by force. In 1896 he was a leader of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, opposing President Grover Cleveland and the conservative Bourbon Democrats. He was defeated for reelection in 1896 in an intensely fought, bitter campaign.
William Leonard Hungate was a United States representative from Missouri from November 3, 1964, to January 3, 1977, representing the Ninth Congressional District. Following his retirement from the United States House of Representatives, Hungate was appointed to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri in 1979 by President Jimmy Carter, where he served until his retirement in 1992. He is also the father of David Hungate.
