Code (stylised < c o d e > or < C O D E >) are an English black metal band that formed in 2002.
The band formed out of Aort's solo project Seasonal Code with which he had released three demos between 1998 and 2001. The band's founding members were Aort and Kvohst (Mat McNerney). The original line-up consisted of Aort on guitars, Cthonian on vocals and Kvohst from the bands Void and Dødheimsgard on vocals. The band released their first demo, entitled Neurotransmissions: Amplified Thought Chemistry , on 15 March 2002 with music written by Aort and all lyrics by Kvohst. Before they recorded their debut album, Cthonian departed the band and they were joined by Viper aka Vicotnik from the bands Ved Buens Ende and Dødheimsgard on bass guitar. Vyttra joined on session guitar and AiwarikiaR, former drummer of Ulver, joined on drums. Aort wrote all of the music and Kvohst co-wrote the lyrics with an English writer called Andrew Nicol for the next two studio albums. The band was eventually signed to Spikefarm Records, an imprint record label of Spinefarm Records. Through Spikefarm, they released their first full-length, entitled Nouveau Gloaming on 13 June 2005. Kvohst, Vyttra and AiwarikiaR had all left the band for unspecified reasons in late 2006. After the album's release Kvohst went on to replace the departed Aldrahn on vocals in Dødheimsgard to record the album Supervillain Outcast in 2007. It was announced that ICS Vortex (of Arcturus, Dimmu Borgir, and Lamented Souls) had been in talks to be recruited as the vocalist of the band but in the end he never joined the band nor wrote, performed or rehearsed with them. In September 2008, the band announced that they would not be working with Vortex after all and that Kvohst had returned to do the vocals on the new album. [1] On 4. November 2008 the title for the new album was announced: Resplendent Grotesque. [2] The second album featured the original core lineup of Kvohst, Aort and Vicotnik and the drums were performed by Adrian Erlandsson from At The Gates and ex-Cradle Of Filth. [3]
In 2011, Kvohst split from the band in order to concentrate on his own musical project Hexvessel and moved to Finland. Aort gathered a new lineup, consisting of Andras, Lordt, Syhr and Wacian, and began working on a new album, Augur Nox which was released by Agonia Records in November 2013, as well as by Aort's own label, Haintic.
Dimmu Borgir is a Norwegian symphonic black metal band from Jessheim, formed in 1993. The name is derived from Dimmuborgir, a volcanic formation in Iceland, the name of which means "dark cities" or "dark castles/fortresses" in Icelandic, Faroese and Old Norse. The band has been through numerous lineup changes over the years; vocalist Shagrath and rhythm guitarist Silenoz are the only original members who still remain, with lead guitarist Galder being a longstanding member.

Esoteric is an English funeral doom metal band from Birmingham founded in 1992. Releasing seven studio albums, and a demo, the band is widely regarded as among the first groups to develop the funeral doom style. The band has named a variety of groups as influences, such as metal bands Morbid Angel and My Dying Bride, more "trippy" artists such as Pink Floyd, Spacemen 3, and King Crimson, and the industrial and dark ambient genres.
Without Face were one of the most famous internationally known Hungarian progressive metal bands. They were formed in the city of Veszprém, Hungary in 1997. The band featured a dual female and male vocal line-up similar to that of gothic metal, with progressive metal and thrash metal overtones and they managed to mix these different styles in a very original own version. Their lyrics are influenced by the writings of H. P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
Thorns, also known as Stigma Diabolicum, is a Norwegian black metal band that formed in 1989 and was part of the early Norwegian black metal scene. They made two highly influential demos in the early 1990s, Grymyrk and Trøndertun, but have only released one full-length album.
Demigod are a Finnish death metal band formed in 1990 in Loimaa, Finland. The band's debut album Slumber of Sullen Eyes is highly regarded in the heavy metal community. Terrorizer included it in their list of "40 death metal albums that you must hear", commenting: "It is with this often overlooked classic that one of the greatest love stories of all time unfolded: Florida's pummeling groove meets Sweden's buzzsaw guitar work in a union so deliciously evil it could move the hardest of bangers to tears of joy."
Cadaver is a Norwegian death metal band from Råde and Fredrikstad. The band had a brief venture in the early 1990s before splitting in 1993. Cadaver would eventually re-emerge as Cadaver Inc. in 1999 which consisted of only one founding member. For their next album, they fell back to using their original band name Cadaver and ended their activities in 2004, with their final live show in 2005. The band reformed in April 2019 and released their fifth album in 2020.
Ved Buens Ende is a Norwegian avant-garde metal band. Their sound is diverse with quiet instrumental jazz influenced sections and aggressive black metal blast beats and vocals. Ved Buens Ende means "By the end of the bow" referring to the mythological rainbow Bifröst.
Dødheimsgard is a Norwegian extreme metal band formed in 1994. Dødheimsgard originally played black metal, but 1999's 666 International saw them change their style into experimental and avant-garde/industrial metal. In 2000, they shortened their name to DHG.

Simen Hestnæs, better known by his stage name ICS Vortex or simply Vortex, is a Norwegian musician. He is the vocalist of the similarly named band ICS Vortex, the avant-garde metal band Arcturus and the doom metal band Lamented Souls. He is also the vocalist and bass guitarist to the heavy metal band Borknagar, and the former bass guitarist and backing vocalist for the symphonic black metal band Dimmu Borgir.
Monumental Possession is the second studio album by Norwegian black metal band Dødheimsgard. It was released in 1996, through the record label Malicious. It is their second and final completely black metal album, before the band incorporated industrial and avant-garde elements into their sound on future releases. Monumental Possession was re-released in 1999 by Century Media Records.
Satanic Art is an EP by Norwegian black metal band Dødheimsgard. It was released in May 1998, by Moonfog Productions. Satanic Art marks the beginning of Dødheimsgard's transition from black metal to a more industrial/avant-garde sound, which was not fully realized until their next album, 666 International (1999).

Kvohst is a British singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer.
Apollyon is a black metal/thrash metal multi-instrumentalist, formerly associated with Dødheimsgard and Cadaver, now playing in Aura Noir and also Immortal after its reforming in 2006. He has done guest vocals on the Darkthrone albums Plaguewielder and Sardonic Wrath, and also on Audiopain's EP 1986 (2000). He was a live guitarist for Gorgoroth from 2003 to 2004, and performed at Gorgoroth's infamous Kraków show in February 2004 and later released on the video album Black Mass Krakow 2004.
Canvas Solaris are an American progressive metal band from Statesboro, Georgia, formed in 1999, and disbanded in 2011. Though they first played with vocals, they moved on to instrumental, drawing influence from bands as diverse as Cynic, Rush, King Crimson, Death, Watchtower, and The Mars Volta.
Strid is a Norwegian black metal band. The group formed in 1991 as Malfeitor, and changed their name to Battle by 1992 before eventually settling on their current name the year following. Despite Strid's small discography and limited number of recordings, it has acquired a dedicated cult following and is commonly recognized as a major pioneer within the depressive black metal scene.
