Colin Heathcock (December 20, 2005) is an American right-handed sabre fencer. He represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Early life and education

Heathcock was born to Virgil Heathcock and Julie Yang in Beijing, China and raised in Palo Alto, California. He has an older brother, Antonio, who is also a fencer. By 13 years old, Heathcock was competing internationally representing Germany, where his father has dual citizenship. [1] In 2019, he moved to Orléans, France where sabre coach Christian Bauer was opening an academy. [2]

Heathcock is an incoming freshman at Harvard University where he will be a member of the collegiate fencing team. [3]

Career

Heathcock represented Germany at the 2022 Junior World Championships and won a gold medal in the individual sabre event. [4] In 2022, he decided to switch his national team to the United States. [1]

In April 2023 he represented the United States at the 2023 Junior Fencing World Championships and won a gold medal in the individual and team sabre events. [5] In June 2023 he represented the United States at the 2023 Pan American Fencing Championships and won a gold medal in the team sabre event. [6] In July 2023 he represented the United States at the 2023 World Fencing Championships and won a bronze medal in the men's team sabre, team USA's first ever World Fencing Championships medal in the event. [7] He finished the 2022–23 season as the world's No. 1 ranked junior men's saber fencer. [8]

In January 2024 he won gold at the Tunis Grand Prix. In March 2024 he won gold at the Padua Senior Men's Saber World, his second gold in the last three FIE senior tournaments. [9] At 18 years old, he became the youngest ever men's sabre fencer to win multiple senior level international competitions in a season. [10] In April 2024 he represented the United States at the 2024 Junior Fencing World Championships and won a gold medal in the team sabre event. [11]

In March 2024 he was named to team USA's roster to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics. [12] [13] During the men's sabre event, Heathcock was upset by Park Sang-won of Korea in the round of 32. [14]

Ivan James Lee is an American Olympic sabre fencer and coach. He was a two-time NCAA Men's Sabre Champion, a five-time national sabre champion, and was inducted into the US Fencing Association Hall of Fame. He worked as a police officer in the New York City Police Department from 2008 until 2022, and as the Women's Fencing Team Head Coach at Long Island University from 2019 until December 2023. Lee was elected Chair of the board of directors of USA Fencing in September 2023. He was suspended by USA Fencing in December 2023, for his alleged conduct that would constitute a violation of the U.S. Center for SafeSport (SafeSport) Code. Lee resigned when he was informed of his suspension. His suspension was upheld by SafeSport on January 4, 2024, lifted by SafeSport on January 16 while it continued its investigation of Lee’s conduct, and then reimposed by SafeSport in February 2024. In February 2024 Lee was arrested on charges of forcible touching, sexual abuse, and harassment.

Emily Phillipa Jacobson is an American Olympic sabre fencer. She won a bronze medal in the 2003 Pan American Games, and was 2004 Junior World Champion in women's saber.

Konstantin Lokhanov is a Russian sabre fencer living in San Diego, California, in the United States. Lokhanov was ranked # 1 in the world in cadet sabre in both 2014 and 2015. He was then a two-time World Junior Sabre Individual Champion, and ranked # 1 in the world for both those years. In 2021, he competed in sabre at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The following year, appalled by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, he defected to the United States. He said: "I decided I could no longer live in a country that kills innocent Ukrainians." He is a now member of USA Fencing.

The Ukrainian Fencing Federation commonly known by the acronym NFFU, established in 1992, is the governing body of Ukrainian fencing. Through 2022, Ukrainian fencers won 230 medals combined in the Olympic Games, World championships, and European championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Fencing at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span>

The fencing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris were run from 27 July to 4 August at the Grand Palais strip. A total of 212 fencers, with an equal distribution between men and women, competed across twelve medal events at the Games. For the second straight time, Paris 2024 witnessed both men and women fence against each other in the individual and team events held in all three weapons.

Mitchell Saron is a Filipino American right-handed sabre fencer. He is representing the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, in the Men's sabre and Men's team sabre on July 27 and 31, 2024.

Fares Arfa is a Canadian fencer in the sabre discipline. Arfa has won multiple medals at the Pan American level.

Evann Jean Abba Girault is a French-Nigerien sabre fencer. He qualified to represent Niger at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Luca Szűcs is a Hungarian sabre fencer. She is a two-time world champion and won the women's team sabre events at the World Championships in 2022 and 2023. Szűcs is also a two-time junior world champion and three-time junior European champion. She represented Hungary at the 2024 Summer Olympics.
