Empey was born on 7 August 1998. [3]

Field hockey

Domestic league

Empey currently competes in the Dutch Hoofdklasse, where he represents SCHC. [1] [4] [5]

In the Irish Hockey League, he formerly represented the Three Rock Rovers. [6]

Under–21

Empey made his debut for the Ireland U–21 in 2017 at the EuroHockey Junior Championship in Valencia. [7]

He followed this up with an appearance at the 2019 EuroHockey Junior Championship II in Plzeň Litice. [8]

Senior national team

Empey made his senior international debut in 2021. He appeared in a test series against Malaysia in Hillsborough. [7] [9]

Since his debut, Empey has been present at a number of international events and has medalled with the national team on two occasions. He took home gold at the 2023 EuroHockey Championship II in Dublin, and silver at the 2022 FIH Nations Cup in Potchefstroom. [10] [11]

Alexander Cox, also known as Alex Cox, is a Dutch field hockey coach and a former field hockey player. He guided SV Kampong to the 2015–16 Euro Hockey League title and two successive Hoofdklasse titles in 2016–17 and 2017–18. He has also worked as an assistant coach with both the Netherlands men's and Netherlands women's teams. He was head coach of the Netherlands U21 team that won the 2017 Men's EuroHockey Junior Championship. Between 2018 and 2019, Cox served as head coach of the Ireland men. He is married to Marsha Marescia, the former South Africa women's international.
