Consortium: The Tower is an upcoming first-person shooter role-playing video game. It is the sequel to Consortium , developed by Interdimensional Games. It takes place in an alternate reality 2042.
The first Kickstarter campaign for Consortium: The Tower ended February 19, 2016, raising $182,780 CAD of the $450,000 CAD (US$138,016 of the US$339,791) goal. [1] [2] Interdimensional Games turned to Fig to raise US$300,000 which ended on May 11, 2016. [3] The game was released to Steam Early Access on September 21, 2017. [4] The game was originally expected to be released in 2019.
Consortium: The Tower follows immediately after the events of Consortium and continues Bishop Six's tumultuous initiation into the global police force known as the Consortium. Dropping onto the fictitious Churchill Tower in London in the year 2042, which has reportedly been occupied by Islamic terrorists thought to have been dealt with at the turn of the century. The conspiracies and deceptions continue to expand and unravel as Six works his way through the tower, dealing with Canadian drug peddlers, slimy journalists and the mysterious entity known only as The Voice. The Tower expands the cast bringing in a host of new friends and foes and revisits the existing relationships established in Consortium.
The game offers a lot freedom of motion with a significant degree of verticality, allowing for typical running and jumping, but also charged super jumping, short boosts, and even flying in the form of the Free Fall Suit. Players have the choice of the more combat-focused Battle Utility Suit as well which has more limited movement in exchange for added protection. [5] The former helps Bishop Six evade hostiles and obstacles while the latter allows him to confront them directly using an assortment of lethal and non-lethal weapons. Consortium: The Tower also allows players to talk to squad members, squad leaders, and major NPCS—even make "ghost noises" to draw attention or even defuse a situation gone wrong. The game follows Doom (2016) in using a dynamic ledge-grab system, that allows the player to climb onto surfaces if a jump or flight came up short of landing on it.
The Churchill Tower itself acts as an antagonist with nanites reshaping it: floors are bent perpendicular, the water treatment plant has been moved well over 100 floors above ground level, and turrets have erected themselves to impede the player. The Tower features secrets, mazes, and traps in interlocking maps that allow the player to complete objectives in virtually any order they want to.
Development on the project was complicated. The team initially built the game in the Source Engine, before switching to Unreal Engine 4. [6] The soundtrack was composed by Jeremy Soule; the project was his final game soundtrack before the sexual misconduct allegations were made against him in 2019. [7]
The Tower has been available via Steam Early Access since September 21, 2017. [8] The developers acknowledged at the time that the game was a long way from completion. [9] A series of updates were released through to December 2019, after which the team instead focused on a re-release of the first game. "Phase Two" of development on The Tower commenced around 2023, [10] and a new 1.12 patch was released in May 2024. The developers have announced that the game will be migrated from Unreal Engine 4.15 to 4.27, [11] (which was the final version before the switch to UE5). [12]
The early access version of the game was met with mixed reception. PCGamesN were positive about the innovative nature of the game, but were frustrated by the lack of a quick save function and acknowledged that the game was "far from finished". [13]

Steam offers various features, like game server matchmaking with Valve Anti-Cheat (VAC) measures, social networking, and game streaming services. Steam client's functionality include game update automation, cloud storage for game progress, and community features such as direct messaging, in-game overlay and a virtual collectable marketplace.
Garry's Mod is a 2006 sandbox game developed by Facepunch Studios and published by Valve. The base game mode of Garry's Mod has no set objectives and provides the player with a world in which to freely manipulate objects. Other game modes, notably Trouble in Terrorist Town and Prop Hunt, are created by other developers as mods and are installed separately, by means such as the Steam Workshop. Garry's Mod was created by Garry Newman as a mod for Valve's Source game engine and released in December 2004, before being expanded into a standalone release that was published by Valve in November 2006. Ports of the original Windows version for Mac OS X and Linux followed in September 2010 and June 2013, respectively. As of September 2021, Garry's Mod has sold more than 20 million copies. A successor, Sandbox, has been in development since 2015.
Castle Story is a sandbox and real-time strategy game developed by Sauropod Studio. Funded through crowdfunding website Kickstarter in 2012, the game launched in September 2013 in early access, and was fully released in August 2017.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is a first-person shooter survival horror video game franchise developed by Ukrainian game developer GSC Game World. The series is set in an alternate version of the present-day Chernobyl Exclusion Zone in Ukraine, where, according to the series' backstory, a mysterious second Chernobyl disaster took place in 2006. As a result, the physical, chemical, and biological processes in the area were altered, spawning numerous nature-defying anomalies, artifacts, and mutants. The player takes the role of a "stalker" - a name given to trespassers and adventurers who have come to explore the exclusion zone and its strange phenomena.
War for the Overworld is a real-time strategy video game developed by Brightrock Games based in Brighton, UK. The game started as a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, which ran from November 29, 2012, to January 3, 2013. In the game, players build dungeons containing deadly traps to kill adventuring heroes that enter. The game is inspired by Dungeon Keeper, StarCraft, Overlord, and Evil Genius. It includes a campaign, sandbox mode, and online multiplayer.
H-Hour: World's Elite was a tactical shooter video game, that was developed by SOF Studios. The game released in early access for Microsoft Windows via Steam in May 2015. A version for the PlayStation 4 was planned to be released at a later date.
Early access, also known as alpha access, alpha founding, paid alpha, or game preview, is a funding model in the video game industry by which consumers can purchase and play a game in the various pre-release development cycles, such as pre-alpha, alpha, and/or beta, while the developer is able to use those funds to continue further development on the game. Those that pay to participate typically help to debug the game, provide feedback and suggestions, may have access to special materials in the game. The early-access approach is a common way to obtain funding for indie games, and may also be used along with other funding mechanisms, including crowdfunding. Many crowdfunding projects promise to offer access to alpha and/or beta versions of the game as development progresses; however, unlike some of these projects which solicit funds but do not yet have a playable game, all early access games offer an immediately playable version of the unfinished game to players.
Consortium is a first-person shooter role-playing video game developed by Interdimensional Games for Microsoft Windows. The game is set almost entirely on a futuristic aircraft called Zenlil, crewed by a complement with chess-themed ranks. The game was principally financed by the Canada Media Fund by awarding a grant for $500,000 CAD in 2010. After a first failed Kickstarter campaign in 2012, $70,435 USD was raised through Kickstarter on April 18, 2013. Consortium was released on January 8, 2014. A sequel, Consortium: The Tower, was released to Steam Early Access on September 21, 2017. Consortium VR and Consortium Remastered were both released on May 21, 2024. Consortium VR is available on Meta Quest and SteamVR.
Into the Stars is a space simulator video game developed by Fugitive Games, a development team made up of former EA DICE and Spark Unlimited developers, and published by Iceberg Interactive. Following a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, the game was greenlit and went into the Steam Early Access program.
Starfall Online is an MMO real-time strategy video game with wargame elements, that mixes intense tactical combat with in-depth spaceship customization. The project is developed by independent Russian company Snowforged Entertainment.
Rokh is a sandbox, science fiction, multiplayer survival game, the development of which was announced on December 10, 2015. The game was originally under development by independent game company Nvizzio Creations before Nvizzio dropped out of development for Rokh due to a dropped contract. Rokh was published by Darewise Entertainment. The game is set in the future on the planet Mars, and will contain crafting and survival elements. The game was developed using Unreal Engine 4. The game was made available for early access on May 16, 2017. Development for Rokh was suspended in 2018 due to a lack of financial backing and revenue.
Everspace is a 3D space shooter with roguelike elements developed and published by German studio Rockfish Games. It was released in 2017. A sequel, Everspace 2 was released in 2023.
System Shock is a 2023 action-adventure game developed by Nightdive Studios and published by Prime Matter. It is a remake of the 1994 game System Shock by Looking Glass Studios. The game is set aboard a space station in a cyberpunk vision of the year 2072. Assuming the role of a nameless security hacker, the player attempts to hinder the plans of a malevolent artificial intelligence called SHODAN.
Xing: The Land Beyond is an adventure game by White Lotus Interactive, which was released on September 21, 2017 for Microsoft Windows. The game has full VR support for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. A PlayStation VR version was released on February 12, 2019.
Satisfactory is a 2024 factory simulation game created by Swedish video game developer Coffee Stain Studios. It is a 3D first-person open world exploration and factory building game. The player is dropped onto an alien planet with a handful of tools and must exploit the planet's natural resources to construct increasingly complex factories. The initial goal is to construct a space elevator, through which the Pioneer begins supplying the megacorp the player works for with increasingly numerous and complex components for their unknown, but stated to be prudent, purposes. These exports unlock access to new technology that in turn unlocks a new tier of manufacturing and refinement machines to support the production of the next phase of parts to be delivered to FICSIT.
