The Copenhagen Rugby League Football Club was the first rugby league club formed in Denmark. [1]

The sport of rugby league was introduced in Denmark in 2008, which led to the Denmark national rugby league team playing in international competitions. The Danish team was initially successful, which led to the formation of the Copenhagen RLFC at the Black Swan in Copenhagen on March 2, 2013.

The club has entered into the Pan Scandinavian league, with Skane Crusaders and Kungsbacka Broncos, and will also have matches against teams representing Jutland RLFC and Sweden Barbarians, residential teams including players not eligible for the Sweden National Rugby League Team.

In 2017, Copenhagen RLFC entered into a formal partnership to promote the work of the Diabetesforeningen [The Diabetes Association].

Sport in Denmark is diverse. The national sport is football with the most notable results being qualifying for the European Championships six times in a row (1984–2004) and winning the Championship in 1992. Mansfield Marksman was a rugby league team based at various times in Mansfield, Kirkby-in-Ashfield, Alfreton and ultimately Nottingham. The club changed its name to Nottingham City in 1989, and folded in 1994 a year after exiting the Rugby Football League.

Glyn Turner Welsh rugby union and rugby league footballer

Glyndwr "Glyn" Turner is a Welsh former rugby union footballer who played scrum-half i.e. number 9 position for Welsh club side Ebbw Vale RFC between 1966 and 1974 before turning professional to play rugby league in England. On turning professional Turner signed for Hull Kingston Rovers in 1974 playing for them until 1978, before moving to rivals Hull F.C. in 1978 where he played until he was forced to retire in 1980 due to injury, as a centre or stand-off, i.e. number 3 or 4, or 6.

Denmark national rugby league team

The Denmark national rugby league team represents Denmark in the sport of rugby league. They are official observers of members of the Rugby League European Federation. Danish rugby league stats, news, team results and other information can be seen on Denmark's RLEF Page.

The Nordic Cup is a rugby league tournament played annually between Denmark national rugby league team, Norway and Sweden. It was first played in 2011, in which Denmark claimed the trophy with victory over Norway at Gladsaxe Stadium in Greater Copenhagen. For the first three years, the tournament was acknowledged by the Rugby League European Federation (RLEF), but the games were not recognised as full internationals. In 2014, the fixtures were played in accordance with RLEF regulations and recognised as full internationals.

In 2013, Jylland RLFC was the first rugby league club founded in Jutland and the second after the Copenhagen RLFC was founded in Denmark.

The Danish Rugby League Championship is the contest for the domestic championship in rugby league. As there are two clubs in Denmark, Copenhagen RLFC and Jutland RLFC, this competition is combined with the Danish State of Origin championship.
