Copthorne Orchid Hotel was a hotel at the corner of Dunearn Road and Dunkirk Avenue in Singapore. Opened as the Orchid Inn in 1970, it was renamed the Novotel Orchid Inn in 1972. In 1998, it was renamed the Copthorne Orchid Hotel when the hotel's owners, City Developments Limited, acquired the Copthorne chain of hotels. It was demolished in April 2011 to make way for a condominium.
The Orchid Inn was officially opened in July 1970, catering to expatriates working in Singapore. [1] It housed the Vanda Bar, [2] as well as the Topps Lounge, where prominent local singers such as Huang Qing Yuan and Wang Li performed. [3] By October, there were plans for a $1.5 million expansion, which would introduce a tropical garden theme as well as two restaurants, with one serving Japanese cuisine and the other serving Malay cuisine. [4] 150 solar panels were installed on the hotel's roof in 1980, making it the first hotel in Singapore to be solar-powered. [5] On 1 August 1982, it was renamed the Novotel Orchid Inn following the signing of a contract between French hotel chain Novotel and the hotel's owners City Developments Limited. In the same year, it underwent an expansion which added 158 more guest rooms, which brought the total number of guest rooms in the hotel to 479. [6] In November, an additional 192 solar panels were installed on the hotel's roof, which made it one of the hotels with the largest solar power system in Southeast Asia. By then, the only other hotel in Singapore to have installed a solar power system was the King's Hotel, which was also owned by City Developments Limited. [5] The hotel reportedly saved $10,000 a month through using solar panels to provide electricity instead of a boiler. [7] An extension which added 155 guest rooms and three function rooms was completed in 1984. [8] In March of the same year, the hotel signed a collective agreement with the Food, Drinks & Allied Workers Union. [9] In August, the Austrian restaurant Winnerwald, which was housed in the hotel's old wing, was replaced by Le Pescadou, a French seafood restaurant. [10] The latter establishment received a positive review from Margaret Chan of The Straits Times in February 1986. [11]
In 1988, the hotel underwent a $3 million facelift which extended the Moby Dick coffeehouse, converted six guest rooms into three meeting or function rooms and refurbished 100 guest rooms in the hotel's main wing. The hotel's garden and swimming pool areas were also landscaped. The facelift was done in stages, with work on the guest rooms in the main wing beginning in March and completing in June, the conversion of guest rooms to meeting rooms completing in February, and the extension of the coffeehouse occurring from April to June. [12] In January 1989, Cheers! The Music Pub opened in the hotel. The pub's waiting staff were required to sing and dance. [13] The staff performances were removed in early 1991, [14] but they were returned later that year. [15] On 1 February 1990, the hotel installed double-decker beds in family rooms. [16]
In 1998, the hotel was renamed the Copthorne Orchid Hotel, following City Developments Limited's acquisition of the Copthorne hotel chain. The group's two other hotels in Singapore, the King's Hotel and the Harbour View Dai-Ichi Hotel, were also renamed the Copthorne King's Hotel and Copthorne Harbour View Hotel respectively. [17] In May of the following year, Kwek Leng Beng, the executive chairman of the Hong Leong Group, which owns City Developments Limited, denied that there were any plans to redevelop the hotel into a condominium. [18] In June 2005, City Developments Limited was successful in seeking approval from the government to redevelop the hotel into a condominium. However, the plans were not finalised. By then, its tenants had included the Charming Garden restaurant and the Dragon City Sichuan Restaurant. [19] In February 2010, City Developments Limited announced that the hotel would be demolished and replaced with a condominium. [20] At the time of the announcement, it housed the Palm's Asian Brasserie, which served Peranakan cuisine, the Topps Lounge and the Heritage – The North Indian Cuisine restaurant, which had opened in September of last year. Among its tenants were the Anne Salon and the Nice Express, an express bus service. [3] However, in October, it was announced that the hotel's closure had been delayed, and that bookings would continue to be taken until 31 March of the next year. [21] The hotel closed on 1 April 2011. It was then demolished to make way for The Glyndebourne, a 150-unit luxury condominium named after the Glyndebourne opera house in East Sussex, England. [22]
The Trump International Hotel and Tower is a skyscraper condo-hotel in downtown Chicago, Illinois. The building, named for Donald Trump, was designed by architect Adrian Smith of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill. Bovis Lend Lease built the 100-story structure, which reaches a height of 1,388 feet (423.2 m) including its spire, its roof topping out at 1,171 feet (357 m). It is next to the main branch of the Chicago River, with a view of the entry to Lake Michigan beyond a series of bridges over the river. The building received publicity when the winner of the first season of The Apprentice reality television show, Bill Rancic, chose to manage the construction of the tower over managing a Rancho Palos Verdes–based Trump National Golf Course & Resort in the Los Angeles metro area.

The Millennium Downtown New York is a hotel in Lower Manhattan, New York City, located at the southeast corner of Fulton Street and Church Street. The hotel is adjacent to 195 Broadway, with which it shares the block, and is located across Church Street from the World Trade Center. The building is 55 stories tall, with a total of 471 guest rooms and 98 suites.

The Hotel St. Moritz was a luxury hotel located at 50 Central Park South, on the east side of Sixth Avenue, in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. The structure was extensively rebuilt from 1999 to 2002, and today it is a hotel/condominium combination known as The Ritz-Carlton New York, Central Park.
The Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park was a five-star hotel located on TTK Road in Chennai, India. It opened in 1981 and closed in 2023.
Novotel Manila Araneta City, formerly named Novotel Manila Araneta Center, is a 5-star Hotel located at the Araneta Center in Quezon City, Philippines. The mid-scale, full-service hotel is part of AccorHotels, and the first hotel under the Novotel brand in the Philippines.
Charlie Palmer Hotel is a proposed 371-room hotel planned for 3 acres (1.2 ha) of land at Symphony Park in downtown Las Vegas. As of September 2014, the project is on hold. The project was announced by chef Charlie Palmer as a boutique condo hotel in 2006, with groundbreaking scheduled for later that year. In 2007, the proposed location for the project was changed to Symphony Park, and the condominium was removed from the project. The opening had initially been scheduled for November 2011, but the start of construction was delayed several times between 2010 and 2014, due to the poor state of the local hotel market.
City Developments Limited (CDL), sometimes also known as CityDev, is a Singaporean multinational real estate operating organisation. Founded in 1963, CDL first developed projects in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, as well as in Singapore. Due to geo-political changes, CDL was making a loss before being controlled by Hong Leong Bank via shares acquisition in 1969. Since then, CDL has developed many types of properties from shopping malls to integrated developments. CDL is currently headquartered in Republic Plaza, Singapore. Kwek Leng Beng is its current chairman and Sherman Kwek, Kwek Leng Beng's son, is its current chief executive officer.
The Ibis Styles Manila Araneta City is a 286-room hotel located in the Araneta City, Quezon City, Philippines. The economy hotel is part of AccorHotels, and set to be the first hotel under the Ibis Styles brand in the Philippines. At present, the hotel opened its doors to the public on 7 March 2024 and is set to begin its full operations within the second half of 2024.
Conrad Bangkok is a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, that is part of the Conrad Hotels brand owned by Hilton Worldwide. It opened in 2003. The hotel has 392 rooms and suites. There are six restaurants and lounges at the hotel including KiSara restaurant which serves Japanese cuisine and Liu restaurant which offers traditional Chinese food. The hotel also has a gym, a spa, a swimming pool, tennis courts, and a rooftop jogging track.
Sloane Court Hotel was a hotel located along Balmoral Road in Singapore. Opened as a boarding house in 1962, it initially catered to British soldiers in Singapore. It was closed in late 2017 and demolished shortly after.
Boulevard Hotel was a hotel on Orchard Boulevard in the Orchard Planning Area in Singapore. Opened on Cuscaden Road in 1968 as the Cuscaden House Hotel, it closed down in 1974 before being acquired by Hotel Malaysia Limited, who reopened it as the Hotel Malaysia in 1976. In 1983, the hotel received an extension, after which its main entrance was shifted to Orchard Boulevard. It was also renamed the Boulevard Hotel. The hotel closed down in 2000 before being demolished to make way for a condominium complex.
Ladyhill Hotel was a hotel on Lady Hill Road in Tanglin, Singapore. Completed in 1968, it was owned by the Goodwood Group, which was owned by prominent banker and hotelier Tan Sri Khoo Teck Puat. It was closed in 1999 and demolished to build a condominium.
The South East Asia Hotel is a hotel on Waterloo Street in downtown Singapore.
Katong Park Hotel was a prominent hotel on the corner of Meyer Road and Arthur Road in Singapore. Opened as the Embassy Hotel in 1953, it was the "biggest" hotel in Malaya to have been opened following the end of World War II at the time. The hotel closed in the middle of 1960 and reopened as the Hotel Ambassador later that year under new management. It was again sold to new owners in 1982, after which it was renamed the Duke Hotel. After an unsuccessful attempt to sell the property in 1990, then-owner Teo Lay See sold the hotel to the Chui family of Malacca in 1992, when it was renamed the Katong Park Hotel. There were initially plans to demolish the hotel and replace it with another larger, four-star hotel before it was again sold. In 1999, the hotel was sold off to First Capital Corporation, which closed it down for good and subsequently demolished the hotel building, which then made way for a condominium project.
