Cornel Dinu is a Romanian retired professional footballer and manager who played as a sweeper or a defensive midfielder.

The most successful club is Steaua Bucharest, who were the first Eastern European side to win the European Cup and the European Supercup in 1986. Clubul Sportiv al Armatei Steaua București, commonly known as CSA Steaua București or simply Steaua, is a major multi-sports club based in Bucharest and run by the Ministry of National Defence. It is one of the most successful clubs in Romania and among the most successful multi-sport clubs in Europe. Founded on 7 June 1947 as Asociația Sportivă a Armatei București, the club changed its name several times before settling on to Steaua in 1961.
Cornel Durău is a retired Romanian handball player. Between 1976 and 1990 he played 200 games for the national team and scored 435 goals. He competed at the 1980 and 1984 Olympics and a three world championships, and won three bronze medals. At the club level he played for Dinamo Bucharest, Hidrotehnica Constanța and CB Torrevieja before finishing his career in Germany.

Cornel Penu is a retired Romanian handball goalkeeper. He earned 257 caps with the national team and won the world title in 1970 and 1974 and two Olympic medals in 1972 and 1976. He was named Best Goalkeeper at the 1974 World Championships, and was selected for the World Team three times: in 1973, 1975 and 1976.
Gheorghe "Ghiţă" Licu was a Romanian handball pivot player. Between 1966 and 1976 he capped 197 times for the national team and scored 328 goals, winning world titles in 1970 and 1974 and Olympic medals in 1972 and 1976. Domestically he played his entire career from 1964 to 1980 for Dinamo Bucuresti, winning the national titles in 1965, 1966 and 1978 and the Romanian Cup in 1979. After retiring from competitions Licu became a handball coach. In 1980–1993 he worked with Dinamo Bucuresti in Romania, and in 1995–2006 with SC Magdeburg in Germany, first with the junior and then with the senior team, leading them to the German national title in 2001 and the EHF Champions League victory in 2002. His son Robert also became an Olympic handball player and coach.
Dan Gîrleanu is a retired Romanian volleyball player who won a bronze medal at the 1980 Summer Olympics. At the club level, he played for Dinamo București, winning the 1979 CEV Cup, the 1981 CEV Champions League, and seven national titles.
Simona Păuca is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast. She competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where she tied for gold with her teammate Ecaterina Szabo on balance beam with a difficult and innovative routine; she also won a team gold medal and a bronze medal all-around. After retiring from competitions she worked as a youth coach at her native club Dinamo București.
Anca Gabriela Grigoraș is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast who won team silver medals at the 1976 Olympics and the 1978 World Championships. Individually, she was a European bronze medalist on balance beam in 1973.

Laurenţiu Dumănoiu was a Romanian volleyball player. He won bronze medals at the 1971 and 1977 European championships and 1980 Olympics, placing fifth in 1972. At the club level he played for Dinamo București and won with them the CEV Cup in 1979 and seven national titles.
Petre Ceapura is a retired Romanian rower. He competed at the 1968, 1972 and 1980 Olympics in the coxed fours (1968) and coxed pairs and won a bronze medal in 1972, placing fourth in 1980. In 1970, he became the first world champion in rowing from Romania. He also won three bronze medals at the European championships in 1967–1973. After retiring from competitions, he worked as a coach at his club Dinamo București.
Vasile Andrei is a retired heavyweight wrestler from Romania. He competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1980, 1984 and 1988 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1980 and a gold medal in 1984. At the 1984 Olympics he also placed sixth in freestyle wrestling, and in 1980 and 1988 served as flag bearer for Romania at the opening ceremony. At the world and European championships he won six medals in Greco-Roman wrestling between 1979 and 1987.
Clubul Sportiv Dinamo București is a Romanian professional handball club based in Bucharest, that competes in the Liga Națională, the top flight of Romanian handball. Nicknamed "the Red Dogs", the club was founded in 1948. The club's home ground is the Sala Polivalentă Dinamo in Sector 2, to which it moved in 2013. Dinamo București are among Romania's most successful clubs, having won over twenty competitive honours, including 18 top-flight titles, 7 Romanian Cups, 5 Romanian Supercups, and 1 EHF Champions League. Dinamo București has rivalry with Steaua București.
Corneliu "Cornel" Marin is a retired Romanian sabre fencer. He competed at the 1976, 1980 and 1984 Olympics and won team bronze medals in 1976 and 1984. He won three more team medals at the world championships in 1974–1977. In 1977 he was named Best Fencer of the Year in Romania.
Alexandru Chiculiță is a retired Romanian sabre fencer. He competed at the 1984 and 1992 Olympics and won a team bronze medal in 1984. After retiring from competitions he worked as a fencing coach, and currently trains the sabre team of CS Dinamo București.

Carmen Bunaciu is a retired Romanian swimmer who won four bronze medals in the 100 m and 200 m backstroke at the European and World Championships of 1977–1982. She also competed in these events at the 1980 and 1984 Summer Olympics and finished fourth three times.
