Exclaim! placed the mixtape at number ten on its list of the top ten rap mixtapes of 2012 and wrote, "Gender-bending femme fatale Mykki Blanco [...] kind of sat somewhere on the outer reaches of hip-hop and industrial for her earlier mix Mykki Blanco & the Mutant Angels [...], but the MC tweaked her rap game for the still totally out-there Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss." [4] Pitchfork Media's Carrie Battan commented, "When both personas bubble out of Blanco in fierce equal measure in a verse, it's gut-punching [...] Where Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss falls short is in the bloated middle ground between club and camp." [2] SPIN 's Brandon Soderberg opined, "One would be advised to also think of Blanco and Quattlebaum Jr. as not all that different from, say, Rick Ross and William Roberts [...] Not that Blanco is singularly focused on penetrating hip-hop's mainstream and fucking up the system from the inside. Frequently, she plays up her difference, framing herself as a monster taking over." [3] Tiny Mix Tapes placed the mixtape at number fifty on its list of fifty favorite albums of 2012. Stefan Wharton, in his review for Tiny Mix Tapes, wrote, "Immersed in a sea of dolphins, octopuses, and underwater aesthetics, 2012 got pretty wavvy, while Mykki Blanco’s Cosmic Angel: Illuminati Prince/ss mixtape employed the dank beats of post-corporeal producers like Nightfeelings and Matrixxman to submerge our ears deeper into the abyss with a distinctly gritty mutation." In January 2013, Blanco performed the songs "Haze.Boogie.Life" and "Kinpinning" live in front of a seapunk green screen for Pitchfork Media's YouTube channel. [6] In March 2013, his song "Kingpinning" was featured on the mixtape Wood Wood by Diplo. [7]
"Wavvy" was officially released as the first single off Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss on Aug 21, 2012. [8] The music video for the song was directed by Francesco Carrozzini. [9] Alex Frank, writing for The Fader , commented that Blanco's rap was "versatile enough to jump on beats easy, using both sides of that gender binary perfectly (and everything in between) by somehow making this song mega-masculine and super bitchy at the same time." [10] Pitchfork Media's Carrie Battan wrote that "she's high and clear in the mix rapping with unflinching urgency for nearly four minutes straight over a spine-tingling tropical cascade of a beat." "Haze.Boogie.Life" was released as the second music video from the mixtape and premiered on Pitchfork Media's YouTube channel on October 11, 2012. The music video was directed by Danny Sangra. [12] Clash 's Robin Murray praised the song, "Taut and full of space, the production is matched by Blanco's stuttering, biting flow resulting in something which seems to scratch against your skin." The mixtape's third music video for the song "Kingpinning" was released on January 25, 2013. The music video was directed by Clarence Fuller and features appearances by Dev Hynes, Le1f, and Analisa Teachworth. [14] Michael Cragg, writing for The Guardian, commented, "Like her breakthrough single Wavvy, Kingpinning was produced by Brenmar who frames Blanco's audacious and laidback flow with brittle beats, ghostly synths and rapid-fire drum claps to create something eerie and otherworldly." [15] SPIN 's Chris Martins praised the song and the music video, "S/he is an incredibly able shapeshifter, able to project masculine gangsta hardness and beguiling femininity from one verse to the next, and sometimes between mere bars." In 2012, Suri released his first solo mixtape, Nehru Jackets, on his Greedhead imprint and in conjunction with SEVA NY, a community-based organization from Queens of which Suri is a board member. The OF Tape Vol. 2 is the debut studio album by American hip hop collective Odd Future. It was released on March 20, 2012, by Odd Future Records and RED Distribution. It serves as the sequel to their debut mixtape, The Odd Future Tape (2008). The album features appearances from Odd Future members Hodgy Beats, Tyler, the Creator, Domo Genesis, Frank Ocean, Mike G, the Internet, Taco, Jasper Dolphin, Left Brain and L-Boy, as well as an uncredited appearance from Earl Sweatshirt. On December 31, 2013, Wilson released their debut album Dirty Gold, which featured the singles "Echelon " and "Battle Cry.” Wilson has released a number of mixtapes, including Reservation, which was ranked the sixth-best mixtape of 2012 by Mike Diver of the BBC, the most recent one Back to the Woods appeared in 2015.

It was written by producer Jerry Duplessis, co-producer Arden Altino, guitarist Paul Pesco, and Miguel, who recorded the song at Platinum Sound Recording Studios in New York City. "Do You..." is a love song built around gentle guitar strumming and a playful rhythm section. Its lyrics pose flirtatious, rhetorical questions and feature both metaphorical and literal references to narcotics, inspired in part by Miguel's occasional use of MDMA.

Dirty Gold is the debut studio album by American rapper Angel Haze. It was released on December 30, 2013, by Island Records and Republic Records. The 12-song effort features production from Markus Dravs, Mike Dean, Greg Kurstin, Malay, Rudimental and A Tribe Called Red, and a track written by Australian singer-songwriter Sia. The album was supported by two singles: "Echelon " and "Battle Cry" featuring Sia; along with the promotional single, "No Bueno".
American rapper Angel Haze has released one studio album, one internet album, two extended plays (EPs), four mixtapes and nineteen singles. In July 2012, after releasing two prior mixtapes, Haze released a mixtape Reservation online for free. The title is inspired by the act of reserving a table at a restaurant, saying "[...] For me, it's like that with the rap industry. I made my reservation there [...] and now I'm finally arriving". The lead single "New York" peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart, and number 12 on the UK R&B Singles Chart. Shortly after, Haze released a commercial EP compiled of tracks from Reservation, titled New York, followed by a fourth mixtape, Classick. Throughout late 2013, during the run-up to the release of the debut album, Haze released a cover of a popular song every day, for thirty days. Most famous from these freestyles was the adaptation of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis's track "Same Love", which discusses childhood, prejudice, homophobia and sexuality. The series was dubbed 30 Gold.
