Crabtree Ponds is a Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham nature reserve located in the Fir Vale area of Sheffield. [1]

History

The ponds date back to the 19th Century, having originally been built for the gardens of Crabtree Lodge. [2] [3]

Wildlife

A number of fish and amphibian species can be found at the reserve, including rudd, crucian carp, sticklebacks, palmate newt as well as frogs and toads. The woodland surrounding the ponds contain mainly sycamore, poplar and ash trees which are home to blue tits, great tits, treecreepers, woodpeckers and wrens. [4]

It leads south-west from the suburb of Whirlow over the border between Hathersage and Sheffield, before becoming Sheffield Road at the point called Surprise View. Wyming Brook River in South Yorkshire, England

The Wyming Brook is a river in the City of Sheffield, England. Its source is the Redmires Reservoirs near the Hallam Moors. It flows in a north-easterly direction for over 0.6 miles (1 km) down quite steep terrain into an underground chamber where it joins the Rivelin tunnel before it flows into the lower of the Rivelin Dams. There is a path that runs alongside the brook which is popular with walkers. The path can be quite steep, with it and the brook falling over 100 m in a kilometre. The river flows almost its entire length within the Wyming Brook Nature Reserve, which is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham. The surrounds are wooded near the bottom and more open near the top, with stunning views of the Rivelin Valley and beyond. Wildlife found around Wyming Brook includes the dipper and the crossbill. The Peak District Boundary Walk runs through the nature reserve.

The land was owned and donated by John George Graves upon his death in 1945 and is now known as the Blacka Moor Nature Reserve. The moor is part of the Peak District, and is accessed via the A625 road at Fox House. The site is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham.

Fox Hagg Nature Reserve in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England

Fox Hagg is a small nature reserve in the Rivelin Valley area of Sheffield, England. The Allen Sike flows along the north edge of the reserve and the River Rivelin flows through the reserve from Rivelin Dams to the west. The Wyming Brook Nature Reserve borders Fox Hagg to the west. The site is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham.
