Crowsonius is a genus of beetles in the family Monotomidae, containing the following species: [1]
Beetles are a group of insects that form the order Coleoptera, in the superorder Endopterygota. Their front pair of wings are hardened into wing-cases, elytra, distinguishing them from most other insects. The Coleoptera, with about 400,000 species, is the largest of all orders, constituting almost 40% of described insects and 25% of all known animal life-forms; new species are discovered frequently. The largest of all families, the Curculionidae (weevils) with some 80,000 member species, belongs to this order. Found in almost every habitat except the sea and the polar regions, they interact with their ecosystems in several ways: beetles often feed on plants and fungi, break down animal and plant debris, and eat other invertebrates. Some species are serious agricultural pests, such as the Colorado potato beetle, while others such as Coccinellidae eat aphids, scale insects, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects that damage crops.
Monotomidae is a family of beetles in the suborder Polyphaga, containing the following genera:
Pselaphinae are a subfamily of beetles in the family Staphylinidae, the rove beetles. The group was originally regarded as a separate family named Pselaphidae. Newton and Thayer (1995) placed them in the Omaliine group of the family Staphylinidae based on shared morphological characters.
The family Pythidae is a small group of beetles with no vernacular common name, though recent authors have coined the name dead log bark beetles. There are about 10 genera and 17 described species in Pythidae.
Corylophidae is a family of minute hooded beetles, sometimes called minute fungus beetles, in the order Coleoptera. There are about 18 genera and at least 120 described species in Corylophidae.
Jacobsoniidae is a family of beetles. The larvae and adults live under bark, in plant litter, fungi, bat guano and rotten wood. It is a small family with 23 described species in three genera:
Cardiophorus elegans is a species of click beetles. It is found in Chile.
Scymninae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Coccinellidae. There are at least 170 described species in Scymninae.
Cantharinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Cantharidae. There are at least 200 described species in Cantharinae.
Gyrininae is a subfamily of ground and water beetles in the family Gyrinidae. There are at least 60 described species in Gyrininae.
Hydnocerinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Cleridae. There are at least 70 described species in Hydnocerinae.
Laccophilinae is a subfamily of ground and water beetles in the family Dytiscidae. There are at least 410 described species in Laccophilinae.
Meloinae is a subfamily of beetles in the family Meloidae. There are at least 330 described species in Meloinae.
Hydroporinae is a subfamily of predaceous diving beetles in the family Dytiscidae. There are at least 2,200 described species in Hydroporinae.
Dytiscinae is a subfamily of predaceous diving beetles in the family Dytiscidae. There are at least 20 genera and 380 described species in Dytiscinae.
Anamorphidae is a family of water, rove, scarab, long-horned, leaf and snout beetles in the order Coleoptera. There are about 10 genera and at least 20 described species in Anamorphidae.
Europini is a tribe of root-eating beetles in the family Monotomidae. There are about 8 genera and at least 40 described species in Europini.
Aenigmaticum is a genus of minute hooded beetles in the family Corylophidae. There are about five described species in Aenigmaticum.
Monotominae is a subfamily of root-eating beetles in the family Monotomidae. There are about 10 genera and at least 60 described species in Monotominae.
Endecatomidae is a family of carpet, powder-post and death-watch beetles in the order Coleoptera. There is at one genus, Endecatomus, in Endecatomidae, and four species. Endecatomidae was formerly treated as a subfamily of Ciidae or Bostrichidae.
Myrabolia is the only genus in the beetle family Myraboliidae. It has about 13 species, found in Australia.
