Crying Over Pros for No Reason is the debut studio album by American electronic music producer Edward Ma under the alias of edIT. It was released on April 12, 2004, through Planet Mu.
Ma had been a producer for acts such as Sole and Busdriver under the alias Conartist. [a] [2] He was influenced by his roommate at the time, who had bought and played records from electronic artists such as Squarepusher, Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin, and who had introduced him to Planet Mu through other records that he had bought. [3] [4] Demos of the album were sent to various labels, including to Planet Mu, which Ma chose to release it with. [4]
Ma made the album in the digital audio workstation Pro Tools, with all of its production done by hand without access to VST plugins. The title of the album, Crying Over Pros for No Reason, plays off of the word "hoes"—in an interview with UKF Music, Ma stated, "Back in those days the radio wouldn’t let you say hoes. So artists changed it to pros. It was a cool little riff on it – crying over girls for no reason." [3]

Upon release, Crying Over Pros for No Reason received little to no attention other than from specialised magazines and blogs. [4] Retrospective reviews of the album have been positive; Laurent Fintoni, in a feature for Fact , called the album "groundbreaking, and important," noting how the album was ahead of its time and praising it for its accessibility through its roots in hip-hop and describing it as "a blueprint for things to come". [6] Rob Theakston of AllMusic acknowledged the album's similarities to artists such as Prefuse 73 and Telefon Tel Aviv, but called it "a strong debut". [7] Former Sputnikmusic staff reviewer StrangerofSorts gave the album a 4.5 out of 5, comparing its production to that of DJ Shadow's and calling it "incredibly soulful". [5]
A deluxe edition of Crying Over Pros for No Reason was released through The Glitch Mob's Glass Air Records imprint in December 2014. Talking about the possibility of a follow-up album, Ma stated, "I always felt that if I couldn't top it, or couldn't say anything more about it, then I wouldn't say anything...The amount of people who've hit me up about it over the years made me realise how cult the record was and how special it was to some people. If I couldn't hit a home run harder than that, then I wouldn't do it." [3]

Moondance is the third studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released on 27 January 1970 by Warner Bros. Records. After the commercial failure of his first Warner Bros. album Astral Weeks (1968), Morrison moved to upstate New York with his wife and began writing songs for Moondance. There, he met the musicians who would record the album with him at New York City's A & R Studios in August and September 1969.

Michael Robert Paradinas, better known by his stage name μ-Ziq, is an English electronic musician from Wimbledon, London. He was associated with the electronic style intelligent dance music (IDM) during the 1990s, and recorded on Rephlex Records and Reflective Records. His critically acclaimed 1997 album, Lunatic Harness, helped define the drill 'n' bass subgenre and was also his most successful release, selling over 100,000 copies. Paradinas founded the record label Planet Mu, begun in 1995, where he has championed genres such as juke, IDM and footwork.
Tupelo Honey is the fifth studio album by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. It was released in October 1971 by Warner Bros. Records. Morrison had written all of the songs in Woodstock, New York, before his move to Marin County, California, except for "You're My Woman", which he wrote during the recording sessions. Recording began at the beginning of the second quarter of 1971 at Wally Heider Studios in San Francisco. Morrison moved to the Columbia Studios in May 1971 to complete the album.

The E-mu SP-12 is a sampling drum machine. Designed in 1984, SP-12 was announced by E-mu Systems in 1985. Expanding on the features of E-mu’s affordable and commercially successful Drumulator, a programmable digital drum machine, SP-12 introduced user sampling, enabling musicians to sample their own drums and other sounds. In August 1987, E-mu replaced SP-12 with SP-1200.
Deathconsciousness is the debut studio album by American rock duo Have a Nice Life, released on January 24, 2008 on Enemies List Home Recordings. Boxcutter is the pseudonym for Barry Lynn, an electronic musician from Northern Ireland. Early Boxcutter material from 2005 and 2006, like that released on Hotflush Recordings and on the debut Planet Mu album Oneiric, was frequently associated with the genre dubstep, although it was also compared to experimental artists such as Amon Tobin and Boards of Canada. The second Boxcutter album Glyphic was more influenced by classic dub music such as King Tubby, but also drew comparisons to artists such as Squarepusher, Foul Play and Seefeel, and continued Lynn's reputation for working outside of conventions and taking a genre-hopping approach. In 2009, Lynn released the SETI-themed album Arecibo Message. In the same year, he also founded the Kinnego Records label, on which he released a collaboration with Kinnego Flux featuring artwork by London designers La Boca, and the first vinyl single by Space Dimension Controller.
