Crystal Yvette McLaurin-Coney, also known as Crystal Coney, (Born September 15, 1971) is an actress and model. [1] [2] [3] She was Miss North Carolina USA in 1997, the first African American to win the title. [4] [5]

Early life

McLaurin-Coney was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina. [6] Her parents, Diedre Coney and Donald McLauin, the latter of Dayton, Ohio, were in the military. [6] [3] [5] Her grandmother was Frances Eagleson, long time registrar of North Carolina Central University. [5] Her mother and step-father, Terry Coney, moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1991. [3] [6]

She graduated from Central High School in Grand Forks, North Dakota in 1989. [6] [7] She attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she obtained a degree in journalism and mass communications in 1993. [6] [3]

In 1995, McLaurin-Coney was the first runner-up in the Miss North Carolina USA pageant. [6] She won the Miss North Carolina USA title in November 1996. [6] [8] In this capacity, she did public speaking and attended community events in the state. [9] She went on to compete in the Miss USA pageant in Shreveport, Louisiana in February 1997. [10] [1]

Career

McLaurin-Coney was a model in North Carolina in 1996 and 1997. [11] [12] [13] Her commerical work includes clients such as AT&T, Banquet, The Home Depot, and Secret. [14] [15]

She currently plays Mary in Apple Studio's High Desert. [16] [17] [18] She also has recurring roles as Nurse Lisa" on ABC's The Rookie and Angie on HBO's The Righteous Gemstones . [19] [20] [21] Her first credited television role was in WB's One Tree Hill. [22] Her other television work includes Castle , Dahmer, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. , NCIS, Quantum Leap , Shameless , Superstore, S.W.A.T. , and This Is Us . [19] [23] [24] She also had roles in the web series Breaking Point and The Adventures of Super7even.
