Culicoides selandicus is a species of midges found in Scandinavia. It can be differentiated from its cogenerated by wing and maxillary palp characteristics. [2]
The species was first described in March 2015 by Søren Achim Nielsen and Michael Kristensen. [2] However, the name-bearing types were not explicitly fixed, violating Article 16.4.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN). The species was therefore formally (re-)described in November 2015 by Nielsen, Kristensen and a third author, Thomas Pape. [1]
Loricifera is a phylum of very small to microscopic marine cycloneuralian sediment-dwelling animals with 43 described species. and approximately 100 more that have been collected and not yet described. Their sizes range from 100 μm to ca. 1 mm.

Outside the United States, sandfly may refer to members of the subfamily Phlebotominae within the Psychodidae. Biting midges (Ceratopogonidae) are sometimes called sandflies or no-see-ums. New Zealand sandflies are in the genus of sand fly Austrosimulium, a type of black fly.

The Abadina virus (ABAV) is a serotype of Palyam virus in the genus Orbivirus belonging to the Palyam serogroup. It was considered a distinct species of virus until 1984. The Abadina virus was first detected in 1967 from Culicoides.
