Cumbria Education Trust (formerly William Howard Trust) is a multi-academy trust of primary and secondary academies throughout Cumbria. It was established in September 2015 to sponsor the new Workington Academy following the merger of Southfield Technology College and Stainburn School and Science College. [1] [2]
The Chief Executive is Lorrayne Hughes, who has led the organisation since its inception. Prior to this role, she was Headteacher of William Howard School in Carlisle. In recognition of her service to education, Hughes was awarded an OBE in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours. [3]
Cumbria Education Trust oversees the management of 10 primary academies and 5 secondary academies. Additionally, it operates the West Coast Sixth Form, a collaboration between The Whitehaven Academy and Workington Academy, with facilities spanning both sites. [4]

The A595 is a primary route in Cumbria, in Northern England that starts in Carlisle, passes through Whitehaven and goes close to Workington, Cockermouth and Wigton. It passes Sellafield and Ravenglass before ending at the Dalton-in-Furness by-pass, in southern Cumbria, where it joins the A590 trunk road. The road is mostly single carriageway, apart from in central Carlisle, where it passes the castle as a busy dual carriageway road named Castle Way, and prior to that as Bridge Street and Church Street, where it passes close to the McVitie's or Carr's biscuit factory. The Lillyhall bypass is also dual carriageway.

The South Durham and Lancashire Union Railway (SD&LUR) built a railway line linking the Stockton and Darlington Railway near Bishop Auckland with the Lancaster and Carlisle Railway at Tebay, via Barnard Castle, Stainmore Summit and Kirkby Stephen. Castle Carrock is a village and civil parish on the B6413 road, in the Cumberland District, in the English county of Cumbria about 3 miles (4.8 km) south of Brampton. The population of the Civil Parish was 303 in 2001 and rose to 328 by 2011. It has a pub, The Duke of Cumberland, a primary school and many walks. More recently Castle Carrock is known for 'Cumbria's Most Friendly Music Festival' Music on the Marr which takes place each year at the end of July.
