Curling at the 2010 Winter Olympics – Statistics

Last updated

This is a statistical synopsis of event of Curling at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The curling competition of the 2010 Olympics was held at Vancouver Olympic/Paralympic Centre in Vancouver. It is the fifth time that curling was on the Olympic program, after having been staged in 1924, 1998, 2002 and 2006. The competition followed the same format that was used during the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics, with 10 teams playing a round robin tournament, from which the top four teams advance to the semi-finals.

Contents

6 of the 80 curlers at the 1998 Nagano Olympics are competing in Vancouver (plus a seventh who serves as a coach).

Curling at the 1998 Winter Olympics

Curling at the 1998 Winter Olympics took place at Karuizawa, who had hosted the equestrian events at the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The 1998 Nagano Olympics marked the second time that curling was held as an official Olympic sport. It was the first time the same city hosted events for both the Summer and Winter Olympics.

12 of the 100 curlers at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics are in Vancouver.

Curling at the 2002 Winter Olympics

Curling at the 2002 Winter Olympics took place from February 11 to February 18 in Ogden, Utah:

22 of the 100 curlers at the 2006 Turin Olympics are back in Vancouver.

Curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics

Curling at the 2006 Winter Olympics was held in the town of Pinerolo, Italy from February 13 to February 24. It proved to be the sleeper hit in terms of television ratings in Italy. According to a CBC feature, curling at the 2006 Winter Games drew 5 million viewers, eclipsing ice hockey and figure skating. This, and the success of the Italian men's curling team created a surge of interest in curling within Italy, where there was no previous tradition of the sport and only a few hundred players.

Percentages

In curling, each player is graded on their shots on a scale of zero to four. Their cumulative point total is then marked as a percentage out of the total points possible. This score is just for statistical purposes, and has nothing to do with the outcome of the game.
