Cursed Legacy was the name of Cask J. Thomson's music project. [1] project that was formed in 2008.

Death of a Hero (2008) and The Encounter I: Bound for Nonexistence (2012)

Their debut album Death of a Hero was released in December 2008 through Festival Mushroom Records in Australia and independently worldwide. The album spawned two tracks "Maybe One Day" which received airplay in Australia and Mexico which was followed by "Mistress" which featured on Australia's FBI and Triple J radio stations. The album's quality has been compared to that of earlier releases in history due to its completely analog recording and mastering process. There are subtle but audible glitches throughout the album as a result.

The second release The Encounter I: Bound for Nonexistence was released worldwide on 21 December 2012 and departed from the project's soft sound, incorporating screamo vocals for the first time and featuring a full band. Despite having performed as an acoustic group in the past with various session musicians, the band ceased live performances starting from 2012. The Encounter deals with the psychological trauma of alien abduction. The album's lyrical content was examined by panel guests at MUFON Conference of whom the concept was inspired by. The album was briefly featured and showcased on Microsoft's Xbox Live Music store in December 2012.

Tortured by Remorse (2014) and Lunar Isolation Musical Album (2017)

Cursed Legacy released the exclusive digital album "Discard Once Motionless" through Bandcamp on a pay-what-you-want basis. It was featured on the homepage on the day of release as the first part of a two-part set with the second titled "Embrace when Moving" however the second half was scrapped and the record was not released in physical form.

In early 2014, the project announced a new narrative-based album that would loosely tie in with the concept of their debut. "Tortured by Remorse" was released. It was described as a "Mix between Genesis and Yes" by Classic Rock Magazine Australia. The album's largely piano based sound was well received by critics. [2] Later that year the band signed a contract with an independent publisher to release a compilation of newly mixed and edited tracks from prior releases. "This is Cursed Legacy" contains digitally remastered versions of songs from the analog Death of a Hero. [3]

In 2015, it was revealed that a rock musical was in the works. [4] The composition of "Lunar Isolation" would be done by a film composer and will contain various guest artists and the projects first voice cast and narrator. Lord Tim of metal bands Lord and Dungeon was revealed as a guitarist for the musical. [5] The album was to be funded using crowdfunding site Kickstarter but was removed several days after launching for unmentioned reasons. [6] According to the band's press release the album is about a man who is falsely imprisoned and sentenced to work on the moon as a miner. The album was set for a tentative 2017 release date. A promotional video featuring a sample of the album was released in August 2015 stating that the record will 'define a new chapter in Cursed Legacy' switching the band's signature sound of melancholy folk rock. [7] Several special guests are expected to appear on the album.

In January 2016, Cursed Legacy announced via their Facebook page that the first single from the album titled "Time to Go" would premiere on 1 February. [8] with the 2008-2014 releases to be considered "the first era" of the band [9] It has also been suggested that a stage show based on the album is in the works. [10] On 10 February an EP featuring several mixes of the track "Time to Go" was released. [11] [12] The artist and label revealed in March that all previous releases would be deleted and removed from sale [13]

Musical style

Cursed Legacy's musical style ranges from folk, doom metal and ambient. The debut release Death of a Hero was singer/songwriter focused as opposed to The Encounter which contained metalcore growls and heavy instrumentation. The band's music often ties in with narrative-based storylines. [14] [15]

Alter Bridge American rock band

Alter Bridge is an American rock band from Orlando, Florida. The band was formed in 2004 by vocalist/rhythm guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. After their former band Creed became inactive in 2003, Tremonti and Phillips formed a new band with former bandmate Marshall and new member Kennedy; Alter Bridge was formally unveiled in January 2004, months before Creed's official breakup in June.

Kayo Dot American band

Kayo Dot is an American avant-garde metal group. Formed in 2003 by Toby Driver after the break-up of maudlin of the Well, they released their debut album Choirs of the Eye on John Zorn's Tzadik Records that same year. Since then, Kayo Dot's lineup has drastically changed over the years. Toby Driver is the only founding member of the band still remaining, save for frequent lyrical contributions from former motW member Jason Byron. Up until 2011, the lineup was constantly shifting, and Kayo Dot's sound consistently changed over the years, featuring a wide variety of instrumentation including guitar, drums, bass, violin, saxophone, vibraphone, synthesizers, clarinets and flutes. Underground metal audiences warmly received the group upon its early existence, with the 2003 album Choirs of the Eye and the 2006 album Dowsing Anemone with Copper Tongue both becoming underground hits in the progressive metal scene.

Protest the Hero Canadian progressive metal band

Protest the Hero is a Canadian progressive metal band from Whitby, Ontario. Originally named Happy Go Lucky, the band changed their name to Protest the Hero, then released their debut EP, Search for the Truth, in 2002. In 2005, the band released their first album Kezia on Canadian indie label Underground Operations.

Alestorm Scottish pirate-themed heavy metal band

Uneven Structure is a progressive metal band based in Metz, France. They play a style of post-metal which is heavily influenced by the Swedish extreme metal band Meshuggah. The band blends polyrhythmic passages and extremely low tunings with a heavily layered production style and ambient soundscapes. They are often categorized in the djent movement due to the Meshuggah-like guitar tone they often employ. The band was formed after the split of Longchat, a band which featured Igor Omodei and Benoit Friedrich.

This Is the End of Control is the debut studio album by American rock band Hey Violet, then known as Cherri Bomb. It was released on May 15, 2012 by Hollywood Records. Prior to the album's release, the song "Shake the Ground" was featured on The Avengers soundtrack. The album features the song "Let It Go" from the 2011 EP Stark. The album peaked at 24 on Billboard's Top Hard Rock Albums and at 11 on Top Heatseekers.

For All Eternity, formed in 2008, is an Australian metalcore band from Sydney, NSW. The band independently released an extended play, For All Eternity, in 2009. Their first studio album, Beyond the Gates, was released in 2012 with Taperjean Records and Shock Records. Their second studio album, Metanoia, was released with Facedown Records in 2015. This album would be their Billboard magazine breakthrough release on the Christian Albums and Heatseekers Albums charts.

The Garden (band) American experimental rock band

The Garden is an American experimental rock band from Orange County, California, formed in 2011 by twin brothers Wyatt and Fletcher Shears. The duo released their debut album The Life and Times of a Paperclip in 2013, with several smaller releases following. In 2015, the group released their second studio album Haha along with the lead single "All Smiles Over Here :)" to critical acclaim after being signed to Epitaph Records. They released their third album Mirror Might Steal Your Charm in March 2018, and their fourth album, Kiss My Super Bowl Ring was released in March 2020. Sithu Aye is a Scottish-Burmese guitarist, musician, and producer based in Scotland. He began his career with the release of his first album, Cassini, in 2011, which was self-recorded and independently released. He has released five full-length albums and six EPs. His latest album, 10 Years: Remixes and Reimaginings, was released November 29, 2021. He has toured in Japan with Reflections and Protest The Hero, the UK and Europe with Skyharbor, the UK with Galactic Empire and the US and Canada with Haken.

Carpenter Brut French electronic music artist

Franck Hueso, better known by his stage name Carpenter Brut, is a French darksynth artist from Poitiers, France. He has released three EPs, EP I (2012), EP II (2013) and EP III (2015) which were collected and released together as the album Trilogy (2015). He later released two additional studio albums, Leather Teeth (2018) and Blood Machines OST (2020), along with one live album, CARPENTERBRUTLIVE (2017). He has also contributed original music to a variety of soundtracks, both for film and video games.

Bölzer

Bölzer are a Swiss extreme metal band that formed in Zürich in 2008. The band have said that the meaning behind the name is "a powerful force or blow or strike that has no regard for the consequences or the repercussions. And in that sense it’s not directed either, it’s just a chaotic strike of energy…. a force of chaos, and a force of life and death and anything." To date they have released three EPs, and their debut studio full-length album Hero was released on November 25, 2016 on Iron Bonehead Productions.

Travis Miller is an American musician from Richmond, Virginia. He has recorded under multiple aliases in various genres since his first known released project in 2005, including Lil Ugly Mane, Shawn Kemp, Vudmurk and Bedwetter.
