The 1973 Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, officially known as the 7th Southeast Asian Peninsular Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Singapore from 1 to 8 September 1973 with 16 sports featured in the games. This was the first time Singapore hosted the games. Singapore is the fourth nation to host the Southeast Asian Games after Thailand, Burma and Malaysia. The games was opened and closed by Benjamin Sheares, the President of Singapore at the Singapore National Stadium. The final medal tally was led by Thailand, followed by host Singapore and Malaysia.

The pageant was conceived in 1960 and considered as the oldest international beauty pageant in Malaysia. The winner of Miss International Malaysia will represents her country at the Miss International pageant. On occasion, when the winner does not qualify for either contest, a runner-up is sent.

Miss Malaysia 1964, the first edition of Miss Universe Malaysia pageant, was held on 13 June 1964 at the Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. Angela Filmer of Selangor was crowned by the wife of then Minister of Agriculture and Co-operatives Malaysia, Tan Sri Khir Johari, Puan Khalsom Abdul Rahman at the end of the event. She then represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 1964 pageant in Miami, Florida.

She then represented Malaysia at the Miss Universe 1965 pageant in Miami, Florida.

Miss Malaya 1954, was held on 28 June 1954 at the Capitol Theatre, Singapore. 21 candidates from across Malaya and Singapore and 3 candidates from Sarawak participated in this year's competition. Most of the candidates were nominated by various organisations such as Qantas Boac, Fortune Advertising Ltd., Robinson and Co. Ltd., Malayan Airways, Shewan Tomes and more but individual entries were also welcomed to compete in the pageant. The prizes of the pageant were a free trip to America, a trip to Hong Kong, and a trip either to Penang or Singapore.

The 1976 Sabah state election was held between Monday, 5 April and Saturday, 14 April 1976. The Cycling at the 1977 SEA Games were held at Kuching Street, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Cycling events was held between 20 November to 23 November.
