This was Cyprus' fifth consecutive appearance at a Winter Olympic Games since their debut in the 1980 Winter Olympics. The delegation sent to Lillehammer by Cyprus consisted of a single alpine skier, Karolina Fotiadou. In the women's super-G she came in 46th place.

In the men's slalom competition on the penultimate day of the games, he failed to finish his first run and was eliminated.

The delegation consisted of one athlete, Theodoros Christodoulou, an alpine skier. He finished 54th in the giant slalom and failed to complete the slalom.

Cyprus earned its first Olympic medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics when Pavlos Kontides earned a silver medal in the men's laser sailing event. They had a near miss at the 2008 Olympics when Antonis Nikolaidis lost the bronze medal shoot-off in men's skeet. The first modern Olympian from Cyprus was actually Anastasios Andreou in 1896, who competed under the Greek flag. At this time, Cyprus was a British colony.

The national delegation consisted of two athletes, alpine skiers Christopher Papamichalopoulos and Sophia Papamichalopoulou. Papamichalopoulou finished 53rd in the women's slalom, the best finish for Cyprus at these Olympics.

Cyprus made its Paralympic Games début at the 1988 Summer Paralympics in Seoul, with a delegation of six athletes competing in archery, track and field, and swimming. The country has taken part in every subsequent edition of the Summer Paralympics, but has never participated in the Winter Paralympics.

Christopher John Nicholson is a New Zealand sportsman who has represented the country at both the Winter Olympics as a short track speed skater and at the Summer Olympics as a cyclist. He competed at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville, and the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer. The only other New Zealander to compete at both the Summer and Winter Olympics is Madonna Harris.

Constantinos Papamichael is a Cypriot alpine skier. He competed for the 2014 Winter Olympics in the slalom and giant slalom events. In giant slalom race he finished 64th, almost 30 seconds behind the winner Ted Ligety.

Cyprus competed at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, from 9 to 25 February 2018, with one competitor.

Alekhis Fotiadis is a Cypriot alpine skier. He competed at the 1984, 1988 and the 1992 Winter Olympics. At the first Games in Sarajevo, he placed 69th in the giant slalom and did not finish the slalom. Four years later in Calgary, he placed 58th in the giant slalom. He also competed in the supergiant and slalom, but failed to finish both events. At the last Olympics, he placed 81st in the super giant, 61st in the giant slalom and 44th in the slalom. He was a member of the Cyprus Ski Club.
