D. Kupendra Reddy (born 27 May 1960 Bangalore) [1] an Indian politician,entrepreneur and a social worker. He is a former Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha,the upper house of the Parliament of India from 2014 to 2020. He is representing Karnataka from Janata Dal (Secular) party,a regional political party headed by H D Deve Gowda,former Prime Minister of India. . [2] [3]
D Kupendra Reddy started his political career with Congress and was part of the party for almost 20 years. He moved to Janata Dal (s) and became the Member of Parliament in 2014. [4] Kupendra Reddy has been actively involved on the floor of the parliament,asking one of the highest number of questions. [5]
During the recent 2018 Karnataka State Elections,Kupendra Reddy played a key role in the post-election negotiations. JD(S) and Congress joined hands to form a coalition government,despite BJP emerging as the single largest party. [6]
In January 2019,as part of the party's preparation for the general elections,JD(S) President,H D Deve Gowda announced the appointment of Kupendra Reddy as the in-charge for Bangalore urban and rural districts. Reddy's role was to interact with the workers and leaders of the party to coordinate the entire election campaign. [7]
Kupendra Reddy is in the business of construction and IT infrastructure development,addressing the Infrastructure requirements of the IT industry in Bengaluru and focuses on building technology parks. He established RGA Software Systems Pvt. Ltd. in the year 2000 and two other companies to execute and deliver these projects. [8] He heads Sireesh Auto Pvt Ltd,authorized dealers for Mahindra &Mahindra Ltd in Bengaluru. [9] Reddy also serves on the board of several other companies in various industries. [10]

Kupendra Reddy has been associated with the lake conservation movement of Bangalore and involved in the conservation process of lakes like Agara,Varthur and Bellandur. [12] [13] Apart from cleaning and restoration process,he has also suggested measures to maintain lakes using self-reliant measures. [14]
In 2015 he filed a PIL in the High Court of Karnataka in W.P. No.58668/2015,titled as D. Kupendra Reddy versus State of Karnataka &Ors. The PIL argued for reducing the pollution in Bellandur lake and restore and rejuvenate it. [15] [16] This helped in getting judicial attention to the lake issue faced by Bangalore.
In 2017,he raised the Bellandur Lake issue with National Green Tribunal in application no. 217/2017,titled as D. Kupendra Reddy versus the State of Karnataka. [17] NGT directed the state government and concerned authorities to prepare an action plan to control and prevent pollution of the Bellandur lake and initiate restoration and rejuvenation process. It also directed the Industries in the catchment area to be closed and the housing societies and upcoming buildings to construct sewage treatment plants (STPs).
Reddy has also requested the Central Government to include Bangalore lakes as part of the government's project of cage fish culture. Cage culture project is part of the Central Government's ambitious Blue Revolution and if implemented in Bengaluru lakes,it can help sustain the cleaning process and make the lakes self-reliant. [14]
Reddy has donated land to the State Government to be used for public transport like roads and housing for the poor. He has helped in building marriage halls for public use and supported the renovation of temples. [18]
D. Kupendra Reddy was born in Bengaluru,Karnataka to V.S. Dasa Reddy and Savithramma. He is married to R. Pushpavathi and resides in HSR Layout,Bangalore. [19] They have two daughters and one son. [1]
Haradanahalli Doddegowda Deve Gowda is an Indian politician who served as the 11th prime minister of India from 1 June 1996 to 21 April 1997. He was previously the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. He presently is a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing Karnataka. He is the national president of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. Born in a farming family,he joined the Indian National Congress party in 1953,and remained a member until 1962. He was imprisoned during the Emergency. He became President of the state unit of Janata Dal in 1994,and was considered to be a driving force in the party's victory in Karnataka. He served as the 8th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. In the 1996 general elections,no party won enough seats to form a government. When the United Front,a coalition of regional parties,formed the central government with the support of the Congress,Deve Gowda was unexpectedly chosen to head the government and was elected Prime Minister. During his tenure as prime minister,he also served as Home Minister for some time. His prime ministerial tenure lasted for less than a year. After his prime ministerial tenure,he was elected to the 12th (1998),14th (2004),15th,and 16th Lok Sabha,as Member of Parliament for the Hassan Lok Sabha constituency. He lost Lok Sabha elections in 2019 from Tumkuru but has been elected to Rajya Sabha since.
Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna is an Indian politician who served as Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to October 2012. He was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. It was founded by the former prime minister of India H. D. Deve Gowda in July 1999 as a breakaway faction from the Janata Dal.

Bellandur Lake is located in the suburb of Bellandur in the southeast of the city of Bengaluru. It is the largest lake in the city. It is a part of Bellandur drainage system that drains the southern and the south-eastern parts of the city. The lake is a receptor from three chains of lakes upstream,and has a catchment area of about 148 square kilometres. Water from this lake flows further east to the Varthur Lake,from where it flows down the plateau and eventually into the Pinakani river basin.
