Chandigarh is a union territory and planned city in northern India,serving as the shared capital of the surrounding states,namely Punjab to the north,west and the south,and Haryana to the east. Chandigarh constitutes the bulk of the Chandigarh Capital Region or Greater Chandigarh,which also includes the adjacent satellite cities of Panchkula in Haryana and Mohali in Punjab. It is situated near the foothills of the Himalayas,260 km north of New Delhi and 229 km southeast of Amritsar.
Panjab University (PU) is an Indian collegiate public state university located in Chandigarh. Funded through both State and Union governments,it is considered a state university. It traces its origins to the University of the Punjab in Lahore,which was founded in 1882. After the partition of India,the university was established on 1 October 1947,and called East Punjab University. Initially housed primarily at a cantonment in Solan,it later relocated to a newly built campus in Chandigarh,and was renamed Panjab University. It is accredited by NAAC at five star level,with the highest NAAC A++ accreditation grade.

Bebe Nanaki,alternative spelt as Bibi Nanaki,was the elder sister of Guru Nanak,the founder and first Guru of Sikhism. Nanaki is an important figure in Sikhism,and is known as the first Gursikh. She was the first to realize her brother's 'philosophical inclination',and is credited for inspiring his use of music as an instrument of devotion to God.

With over 65 million digitized pages,it is the biggest resource of digital material on Panjab. There are many historically significant documents stored and made available online. Its scope covers Sikh and Punjabi culture. The library funded by The Nanakshahi Trust was launched online in August 2009. Its base office is located at Chandigarh,India.
Shekhar Gurera,also known as Chander Shekhar Gurera,is an Indian editorial cartoonist,illustrator,and graphic designer. He publishes regular cartoons with comments about India's political and social trends. His daily pocket cartoons appear in several English,Hindi,and regional language daily newspapers Punjab Kesari,Hind Samachar,Jag Bani,Nava Bharat,Central ChronicleThe Pioneer,Sanmarg and Navodaya Times among others. He started his cartoon career in 1984 as a freelancer.
Lakhmi Chand,also known as Pandit Lakhmi Chand,was an Indian poet of Haryanvi language. He was given the title 'Pandit'. He was also known as the Kalidas of Haryana. He has been accorded the honor of the 'Surya Har' of Haryanvi music genre Raagni and Saang. He is popularly referred to as 'Dada Lakhmi Chand'. His work is filled with songs containing messages on moral values,which earned him respect in all corners of Haryana.

Biman Bihari Das is an Indian sculptor and former Principal of the Government College of Art &Craft,Kolkata. He was honoured by the Government of India,in 2014,by bestowing on him the Padma Shri,the fourth highest civilian award,for his services to the field of Fine Arts.

Dhanraj Bhagat (1917–1988) was an Indian sculptor,considered by many as one of the major sculptors of the Indian subcontinent. He was born in 1917 in Lahore,in the erstwhile British India and secured a diploma in sculpture from the National College of Arts,Lahore. His career started as a member of the faculty at the College of Art,Delhi in 1947 where he rose to the position of the head of the Sculpture Department by the time of his retirement in 1977.
Gurcharan Singh is an Indian painter,known for his figurative paintings. He was born in 1949 at Patiala,in the Indian state of Punjab and studied at Government College of Arts and Crafts,Chandigarh. He has had several and group exhibitions in India and abroad and his works were exhibited at the International Biennale in Tokyo in 1984,at the Contemporary Art Show in Seoul in 1986 and the Festival of Contemporary Art in London in 1988. The Lalit Kala Akademi,New Delhi,National Gallery of Modern Art,New Delhi and India House,Paris have his on display at their premises. His signature paintings are based on the people from financially compromised classes;The Red Light in Black and White and Les Miserables are two of his notable works.
Gurpreet Singh Dhuri is an Indian sculptor,hailing from the Ghanaur Khurd Dhuri area of Punjab. Gurpreet Dhuri is known for his clay modeling and portraiture in medium of sculpture. Gurpreet Singh Dhuri loves to be called Gurpreet Dhuri and alumni of Government College of Arts,Chandigarh. His upbringing in a working-class family has taught him to be tough and work passionately to rise. But unlike many who shared similar socio economic background,he has not given up to destiny. He is a contemporary sculptor and prost artist who has worked in Punjab,Chandigarh,Delhi and Mumbai. Completed his Graduation and masters of Fine art BFA and MFA from Government College of Arts Chandigarh. He has worked as artist at dirty Hands studio for a period of five years where he was trained in pros. He is founder member of Studio hash,Delhi among other fellow artist Rake Kumar,Harpree Singh,Akash’s Gauir. Recently they have done a full figure Sili Sculpture of Shri Nek Chand maker of Rock Garden of Chandigarh.
Diwan Manna is an Indian conceptual artist and photographer. He completed his study in graphic art and printmaking from the Government College of Art,Chandigarh in 1982. He exhibited in India,United Kingdom,Germany,France,Poland,and Italy. From 2014 to 2015 he served as the director of Triennale India,organised by Lalit Kala Akademi,National Academy of Art,Ministry of Culture,Govt of India. He served as the chairman of Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi,State Academy of Art,Department of Culture,Chandigarh Administration. Currently,he is serving as the president of Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi,State Academy of Art,Ministry of Culture,Government of Punjab,India.
Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector-16 is a State-funded co-educational secondary school located in Chandigarh,India,educating students in grades K–12. Founded in 1954,it is the oldest school in Chandigarh and among the most selective. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and offers twenty-three subjects at the AISSCE level,among the highest for any school in the region. It also claims a 100% pass percentage at the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination level.
The Government College of Arts,Chandigarh is an art institute in Chandigarh,India. Established in 1951 by SL Prashar,it offers professional education in art to students from over 68 years. This institute is one among the first three art institutions of India. It has a history of almost 132 years,initially,it was initially established as Mayo School of Industrial art in 1875 for purpose to provide industrial drawing as the world was on industrial revolution. John Lockwood Kipling was appointed as the first principal of the institution,which is now active as National College of Arts in Lahore. It came up on 16 August 1951 as splinter Mayo School of Arts,Lahore in Pakistan after Partition of India. In 1951 it was first established as Government School of Art and craft at Shimla,the capital of Punjab and subsequently Govt. College of art and craft,Chandigarh. On re-organization of Punjab,the control came under Chandigarh Administration. This institution is situated in Sector 10 C,adjoining the Government Museum and Art Gallery,Chandigarh.
Randeep Maddoke is a Punjab-based concept photographer and documentary filmmaker,born and raised in the village Maddoke,Moga (Punjab). Randeep,an activist turned photographer,is known for his focus on the pains of the marginalised sections of society which are constantly subject to a systematic social exclusion.
The Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi is Punjab's state academy of fine arts. It's an autonomous cultural organisation established and funded by the Government of Punjab to preserve and publicize the fine art and culture outside the state. Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi uplifts the study and research in field of paintings,sculptures,mixed-media art and photography.
Trilok Singh Chitarkar (1914-1990) was a versatile Indian painter. He has unique style of presenting himself through variety of themes - Sikh religion,history,culture,folk lore,love legends,portraits,social evils,nature,illustration of Gurbani,Shabads,visuals in Punjabi Encyclopedia and books. He was well versed with deep knowledge of Gurbani,history and religion. He knew many languages i.e. Gurmukhi,Punjabi,Hindi,English,Urdu,Persian,Assamese and Bengali. He translated articles from Bengali to Punjabi and published these in the book titled Bangla De Daab in 1974. The Artist was honoured in 1973 by the Chief Minister,Punjab,India Giani Zail Singh at a state level function organised at his residence,Chitralok,Patiala. Language department,Punjab published a book in Punjabi-Chitralok's Contribution to Art and released on the 70th birthday of the artist,10 December 1984 at a special function organised in Central Library at Patiala for his contribution to Art.
He is the first Punjabi Artist on whose works Ph.D. degree Art of Trilok Singh was awarded by Punjabi University,Patiala. A Gold medal has been established in the name of the artist and it is awarded to the topper of M.A. Fine Arts. He was appointed as a State Artist in erstwhile PEPSU state of Punjab in 1948 and later worked as Artist in Department of Languages,Punjab. He lived and worked all over India and spent last years of his life in Patiala town in Punjab state in India.
