D. S. Kapoor (born 1954) is an Indian art historian and educator. He completed a bachelor of arts degree at Government College of Arts,Chandigarh (GCA) and began a career as a commercial artist. Later,he moved to art education,teaching at St. John's School. In 1990,he became a faculty member of the GCA,and served as the acting principal of the college from 2009 to 2012. After his retirement,he was appointed the dean of the Pandit Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts,and then as an Officer on Special Duty at the National Institute of Design,Kurukshetra.
Kapoor designed a replica of the Eiffel Tower in Chandigarh,to serve as an entrance to the annual Chandigarh Carnival. He authored a coffee table book on the GCA's 140-year history titled History and Heritage,Government College of Art (INDIA),which was released in 2018.
Kapoor was born in 1954 in Gurgaon,Haryana. His father,Sujan Singh,was a faculty member at the Government College of Arts (GCA),Chandigarh. Kapoor completed his primary education at the Lady Irwin School,Shimla,and his secondary education at the Government Senior Secondary School. Though his father wanted him to pursue a career in architecture,Kapoor was interested in the arts. He was accepted into the GCA and graduated from the college with a national diploma degree in 1978. He later pursued a postgraduate diploma in public relations and advertising at the Dayanand College of Communication and Management. [1]
Kapoor's first job was as an artist at the Central Government's Tractor Training Centre,where he painted signboards. He quit after a month and joined St. John's School as an art teacher. In 1982,he moved to the Department of Industries &Commerce,Haryana,as a commercial artist. He was instrumental in designing the industrial journal,Udyog Yog. In 1988,he designed a postage stamp to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the Bhakra Dam. [1]
In 1990,he joined the GCA,as a teacher. His father Sujan Singh,and his grandfather Sunder Singh,also held various positions at the college making him the third generation to teach there. During his years at the college,he introduced computer graphics as a subject and also founded a registered organisation for the college's alumni,Kala Maitri. In 2009,he was nominated to be the principal. During his tenure the college celebrated its diamond jubilee. [1] He established a sculpture park on the college campus,which was named after the sculptor Dhanraj Bhagat. On 15 October 2010,the park was inaugurated by Ram Niwas,then Chief Secretary of Chandigarh. [2]
Kapoor designed a replica of the Eiffel Tower in Chandigarh,which was installed in the Leisure Valley to serve as an entrance to the annual Chandigarh Carnival. [3] He also designed murals for the Delhi Metro. [1] In 2011,he curated an exhibition on the works on Sunirmal Chatterjee,titled Retrospective of Sunirmal Chatterjee. [4] After his retirement as principal of the GCA in 2012,he was appointed dean of the Pandit Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts,Rohtak,a position he held until 2016. In 2014,with the slogan, Jai Jawan Jai Kisan (English:Hail the Soldier,Hail the Farmer),Kapoor launched a national campaign called Jai Kalakar (English:Hail the Artist). [6] As of March 2019 [update] ,he continues to serve as the president of Kala Maitri,the GCA alumni association,which he founded, [7] and is an honorary member of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Academy. Kapoor authored a coffee table book on the history of GCA,titled History and Heritage,Government College of Art (INDIA). The book outlines the College's 140 year history from its establishment as the Mayo School of Art in 1875 in Lahore (now in Pakistan). Kapoor began compiling the book in 2009. It was released in March 2018 at a book launch ceremony attended by the Governor of Haryana,Kaptan Singh Solanki,the Vice Chancellor of Punjab University,Arun Kumar Grover,and the former principal of the GCA,Prem Singh. It traces its origins to the University of the Punjab in Lahore,which was founded in 1882. After the partition of India,the university was established on 1 October 1947,and called East Punjab University. Initially housed primarily at a cantonment in Solan,it later relocated to a newly built campus in Chandigarh,and was renamed Panjab University. It is accredited by NAAC at five star level,with the highest NAAC A++ accreditation grade.

With over 65 million digitized pages,it is the biggest resource of digital material on Panjab. There are many historically significant documents stored and made available online. Its scope covers Sikh and Punjabi culture. The library funded by The Nanakshahi Trust was launched online in August 2009. Its base office is located at Chandigarh,India.
Shekhar Gurera,also known as Chander Shekhar Gurera,is an Indian editorial cartoonist,illustrator,and graphic designer. He publishes regular cartoons with comments about India's political and social trends. His daily pocket cartoons appear in several English,Hindi,and regional language daily newspapers Punjab Kesari,Hind Samachar,Jag Bani,Nava Bharat,Central ChronicleThe Pioneer,Sanmarg and Navodaya Times among others. He started his cartoon career in 1984 as a freelancer.
Lakhmi Chand,(1903–1945) also known as Pandit Lakhmi Chand,was an Indian poet of Haryanvi language. He was given the title 'Pandit'. He was also known as the Kalidas of Haryana. He has been accorded the honor of the 'Surya Har' of Haryanvi music genre Raagni and Saang. He is popularly referred to as 'Dada Lakhmi Chand'. His work is filled with songs containing messages on moral values,which earned him respect in all corners of Haryana.

Gurcharan Singh is an Indian painter,known for his figurative paintings. He was born in 1949 at Patiala,in the Indian state of Punjab and studied at Government College of Arts and Crafts,Chandigarh. He has had several and group exhibitions in India and abroad and his works were exhibited at the International Biennale in Tokyo in 1984,at the Contemporary Art Show in Seoul in 1986 and the Festival of Contemporary Art in London in 1988. The Lalit Kala Akademi,New Delhi,National Gallery of Modern Art,New Delhi and India House,Paris have his on display at their premises. His signature paintings are based on the people from financially compromised classes;The Red Light in Black and White and Les Miserables are two of his notable works.
Gurpreet Singh Dhuri,or simply Dhuri,is an Indian sculptor and special make-up effects and installation artist. He is known for his clay modeling and portraiture in medium of sculpture and prosthetic makeup in Indian films. He is an alumnus of the Government College of Arts,Chandigarh where he completed a masters of fine art with a specialisation in sculpture.
Diwan Manna is an Indian conceptual artist and photographer. He completed his study in graphic art and printmaking from the Government College of Art,Chandigarh in 1982. He exhibited in India,United Kingdom,Germany,France,Poland,and Italy. From 2014 to 2015 he served as the director of Triennale India,organised by Lalit Kala Akademi,National Academy of Art,Ministry of Culture,Govt of India. He served as the chairman of Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi,State Academy of Art,Department of Culture,Chandigarh Administration. Currently,he is serving as the president of Punjab Lalit Kala Akademi,State Academy of Art,Ministry of Culture,Government of Punjab,India.
Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector-16 is a State-funded co-educational secondary school located in Chandigarh,India,educating students in grades K–12. Founded in 1954,it is the oldest school in Chandigarh and among the most selective. The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education and offers twenty-three subjects at the AISSCE level,among the highest for any school in the region. It also claims a 100% pass percentage at the All India Secondary School Certificate Examination level.
