Ayorinde Kehinde Okiki (born 4 August 1992), known professionally as DJ Kaywise is a Nigerian disc jockey and record producer. Kaywise broke into the mixtape market in Alaba in the year 2010. He has since gained prominence as a DJ in Nigeria and has released chart topping songs with many Nigerian music stars. [1]

Early life

DJ Kaywise was born in Lagos, Nigeria on August 4, 1992. He is originally from Ile Ife in Osun state. He was brought up in Lagos State where he completed his elementary and seconday school. He gained prominence after releasing the mixtape titled "Emergency" which was a combination of songs in the country at the time. [2]

Career

DJ Kaywise started his career as a record producer but later picked interest in being a Disc Jockey. He started his journey as a DJ in 2010, he came into limelight after his "Emergency" mixtape broke into the mixtape market in Alaba market in Lagos. [3] He has so far released over 10,000 CD Mixtape, over 50 online released mixtape and released multiple music and visuals with Nigerian and African artistes. [4]

Kaywise released his debut single in 2012 titled "Hangover" featuring Dammy Krane and Yung 6ix. [5] In 2013, he featured Iyanya on a single titled "Loyalist". [2] He has released singles with Nigerian musicians including Mayorkun, Naira Marley, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Vector and Ice Prince. He kickstarted his DJ academy in 2019 called Kaywise Academy. [2] [6] then released a mixtape titled "Revolution Mix Vol1" in solidarity with the EndSars movement that started in Nigeria in 2020. [7] In August 2020, his single "What Type of Dance" featuring Mayorkun, Naira Marley and Zlatan Ibile peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Top Triller Global chart. [8] [9] His recently released song "High Way" featuring Phyno dropped in December 2020. [10] The single peaked at number 7 after spending two weeks on the Billboard Top Triller Global Chart. [11]

The Joor Concert

DJ Kaywise hosted the maiden edition of his street concert titled " The Joor Concert" in 2016.[ citation needed ] He mentioned in an interview that the first four editions of the concert had an attendance record of over 50,000 (Unverifiable) [12] DJ Kaywise had the fifth edition of his annual street concert in January 2020. [13] [14] Over the years, The Joor Concert has been hosted in different cities across the country and has had two editions in London and Dubai respectively. [15]

The Headies Nigerian music award

The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. The annual ceremony features performances by established and promising artists. It is broadcast live on HipTV to viewers across Nigeria. The 1st and 2nd editions of The Headies were held at the Muson Center in Onikan, Lagos State. Between 2010 and 2012, the awards were held at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. Several media personalities in Nigeria have hosted the annual ceremony, including Darey Art Alade, D'banj, Dakore Egbuson, Banky W., Rita Dominic, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Dr SID.

<i>YBNL</i> 2012 studio album by Olamide

YBNL is the second studio album by Nigerian rapper Olamide. It was released on November 12, 2012, as the follow-up to his debut studio album Rapsodi (2011). The album features guest appearances from Kay Switch, Tiwa Savage, Dammy Krane, Davido, Kidakudz, Reminisce, Base 1, Buckwyla and Minus 2. Olamide enlisted Pheelz, Samklef, I.D Cabasa, 2Kriss and Tyrone to produce the album. YBNL was supported by the singles "Ilefo Illuminati", "First of All", "Stupid Love" and "Voice of the Street".

In January 2012, at age 20, he signed a record deal with Hypertek Digital and 960 Music Group. He is most famous for his single hit "My Dear". Dammy Krane is known for his melodic voice, engaging lyrics and his exciting genre of African alternative music. Dammy Krane has received several nominations, including the Next Rated nomination. He won Rookie of the Year at The Headies 2012.

The 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards took place on 31 August 2014, at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. The eligibility period was from March 2013 to March 2014. In April 2014, the NEA reviewing committee began collecting submissions for the 2014 edition. The deadline for submission was April 30, 2014, and the nominations were announced on May 29, 2014. Tiwa Savage and Davido received the most nominations with 5 each. Don Jazzy, Flavour N'abania and Wizkid all got four nominations each, while Olamide, Patoranking, Chidinma and Oritse Femi followed closely with three nominations.

The 2014 Channel O Music Video Awards took place on 29 November 2014 at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Soweto. Nominees were announced on 4 September. Cassper Nyovest, K.O and Davido led the nominations with 5 each. DJ Clock's hit song "Pluto", which features the singing trio Beatenberg, followed with 4. Harrison Tare Okiri, better known by his stage name Harrysong, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter and instrumentalist who rose to fame after his tribute song to Nelson Mandela won the "Most Downloaded Callertune Award" at The Headies 2013. Harrysong was born in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria to Ijaw parents but moved to Lagos in 2007 after spending some of his early life in Port Harcourt. Prior to signing to QuestionMark Entertainment, Harrysong used to perform at night clubs until he met Kcee who introduced him to top music personalities. In 2014, Harrysong was nominated in the "Best Pop/R&B Artist of the Year" category at the 2014 Nigeria Entertainment Awards after the release of his chart-topping song "Beta Pikin".

He's best known for producing Afrobeats longest charting billboard single "Fall" by Davido, which peaked on US R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at number 13 and US Hot R&B Songs chart at number 25 on Billboard. According to OkayAfrica, Fall is Nigeria's longest-charted pop song in Billboard history and Pitchfork named it among the best 200 song of the decade. In 2017, he was part of Pulse Nigeria's top 10 record producers to focus on. In 2020, Kiddominant became the first Afrobeats producer in history to be certified by the recording industry association of America, after fall became a certified gold record in the US. Omoniyi Temidayo Raphael, known professionally as Zlatan Ibile, is a Nigerian rapper, singer, songwriter, musician and dancer from Ijurin Ekiti, Ijero local government area, Ekiti state. He is the chief executive officer and founder of Zanku records. In 2014, he won the Airtel-sponsored One Mic talent show held in 2014, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
