He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers, was a member of a BCS National Championship team, and received consensus All-American honors. A second-round pick in the 2000 NFL draft, Coleman played professionally for the Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL.

His other catch came in week 17 against the Panthers. Coleman was also a contributor on special teams, as the Patriots made their way through the playoffs and onto the victory in Super Bowl XXXVI.
