McCutchen split the 2016 campaign between El Paso and the Double–A San Antonio Missions, accumulating an 11–11 record and 6.23 ERA with 87 strikeouts over 29 games (28 starts). He elected free agency following the season on November 7, 2016. [19]

After his playing career ended, McCutchen opened a car wash in New Braunfels, Texas. [1]
