Daniel Repacholi (born 15 May 1982) is an Australian sport shooter and politician who has competed at four Olympic Games. [4] He is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and was elected as a member for the New South Wales seat of Hunter in the 2022 election following the retirement of Joel Fitzgibbon. [5] [2]
Repacholi is a former coalminer [1] [6] and runs a small engineering business with 60 employees [2] [6] in the Hunter Valley. He is a member of the Cessnock Hall of Fame,having been inducted in May 2020 for services to sport. [7] [1]
Repacholi has competed as a sports shooter since he was 12 years old. [7] He started a trade apprenticeship at 15. [2]
He competed in the 10 metre air pistol,finishing in equal 36th place,and the 50 metre pistol,finishing 23rd,at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing,he competed in the same events,finishing 31st in the 10 metre air pistol,and 40th in the 50 metre pistol. At the 2012 London Olympics he again competed in the two pistol events,finishing 28th in the 10 metre air pistol and 19th in the 50 metre pistol. [8] [9]
Repacholi won a gold medal and a bronze medal at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne. [10] At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi,Repacholi won a bronze medal. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow,Repacholi won a gold medal in the 10m Air Pistol and bronze in the 50m Pistol events. [11]
Repacholi qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics where he competed in the individual and team 10m air pistol events. He did not score sufficient points to advance past qualification. [12]
In October 2021,Repacholi was selected as the Australian Labor Party candidate for the Division of Hunter for the 2022 Australian federal election. [5] He was endorsed by the Labor leader Anthony Albanese and the Construction,Forestry,Maritime,Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU). [13] [14] Some rank and file Labor members were angry with the lack of a rank and file vote to choose Repacholi as a candidate,in addition to his support of coal mining. [15] [16]
Repacholi has stated a focus on supporting the mining industry, [1] and improving employment opportunities for tradesmen,trainees and apprentices. [2] Repacholi has suggested that opponents of coal mining should "sit in the dark and freeze”in winter. [16]
After competing in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi,India,Repacholi described the country as a "shit hole" on social media. He has also published sexually explicit comments on social media and followed Instagram accounts featuring naked women posing with assault rifles and near-naked women in sexually provocative poses. [17] [18] [15] Repacholi has apologised publicly for making these comments and deleted his Instagram account. [19] [20]
The Division of Hunter is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. The division was proclaimed in 1900,and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. The division was named after Captain John Hunter,the second Governor of New South Wales. It covers rural,regional and suburban areas centered on the Hunter Region,including the towns of Singleton,Muswellbrook and Cessnock. It also extends into parts of Greater Newcastle,covering suburbs such as Cameron Park,Edgeworth,Toronto and Morisset.
The International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) is the governing body of the Olympic shooting events in rifle,pistol and shotgun disciplines,and of several non-Olympic shooting sport events. ISSF's activities include regulation of the sport,Olympic qualifications and organization of international competitions such as the ISSF World Cup Series,the ISSF World Cup Finals,the ISSF Separate World Championship in Shotgun events and the ISSF World Championship in all events.
Zorana Arunović is a Serbian sport shooter. She won 10 metre air pistol event at the 2010 World Shooting Championships and was later named Serbian Sportswoman of The Year by the Olympic Committee of Serbia. She also won individual gold medals in 10 m air pistol event at 2017 European Championships,and 2015 and 2019 European Games.
Heena Sidhu is an Indian sport shooter. On 7 April 2014,Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to reach number one in world rankings by the International Shooting Sport Federation. In 2013,Sidhu became the first Indian pistol shooter to win a gold medal in an ISSF World Cup finals when she won the 10-metre air pistol event. In 2014,Sidhu was the World record holder in the 10-metre air pistol event with a final score of 203.8. Sidhu is right handed and is right eye dominant.
Dina Aspandiyarova,is a professional sporting shooter who has previously represented Kazakhstan and Russia and currently represents Australia in international competition. Aspandiyarova is from Tatar descent.
Lalita Yauhleuskaya is a professional sporting shooter who won a bronze medal at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney representing Belarus and currently represents Australia in international competition.
Georgina Geikie is a British sport shooter who competed for Great Britain in the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Viktoria Uladzimirauna Chaika is a Belarusian female sport shooter. At the 2012 Summer Olympics,she competed in the Women's 10 metre air pistol,finishing fifth,and the Women's 25 metre pistol,finishing 25th. She also competed at the 2008,2004 and 2000 Olympic games in the 10 metre air pistol and the 2008 and 2004 Games in the 25 metre pistol events.
Christoph Schmid is a Swiss sport shooter. He won a silver medal in the men's 50 m free pistol at the 2007 ISSF World Cup series in Fort Benning,Georgia,accumulating a score of 659.7 points.
Susan Valerie McCready is an Australian sport shooter. Since 1997,McCready had won a total of eleven medals in both air and small-bore rifle at the Oceania Shooting Championships. She also captured a gold medal in the women's 50 m rifle three positions at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia,accumulating a score of 667.3 points. McCready is the wife of three-time Olympian and pistol shooter Daniel Repacholi.
David Keith Moore is an Australian sport shooter. Since 1995,Moore had won a total of twelve medals in the air,standard,centre-fire,and free pistol at the Oceania Shooting Championships. He also captured a gold medal in the free pistol pairs,along with his partner Daniel Repacholi,at the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne,with a combined score of 1,086 points. Moore competed for both air and free pistol shooting events at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney,and at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens,but he neither reached the final round,nor claimed an Olympic medal.
The Men's 10 metre air pistol event took place on 26 July 2014 at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre. Daniel Repacholi won the gold medal,Prakash Nanjappa won silver medal and Mick Gault won the bronze.
Prakash Nanjappa is an Indian shooter who competes in the 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol events. He was the only Indian to win a medal in the 2013 ISSF World Cup,when he won bronze with a very minor difference between the second place in 10 metre air pistol event in Changwon,South Korea. In the same event,he won the silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Michael Gault OBE,is an English sport shooter. He has competed at the Commonwealth Games on six occasions winning eighteen medals,a record for athletes in any sport that he jointly holds with Australian shooter Phillip Adams,but has never been selected for the British Olympic team.
Oman competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro,Brazil,when the event was held from 5 to 21 August 2016. This was the nation's ninth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Four Omani athletes,two men and two women,were selected to compete in athletics and shooting at the Games. Among them were sprinter Barakat Al-Harthi,the lone returning Olympian from the previous Games.
Eleanor Bezzina is a Maltese sports shooter. She competed in the women's 10 metre air pistol event at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics,in Women's 10 m air pistol and Women's 25 m pistol.

He was also the flag-bearer at the Opening Ceremony along with Mahoor Shahzad. After receiving an Olympic scholarship,he qualified at the 2019 International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup in Rio,where he finished sixth. In September 2019,Akhtar jumped to 15th position in the ISSF world rankings.
Javad Foroughi is an Iranian sport shooter,born in Dehloran. He represented Iran at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo,competing in Men's 10 metre air pistol and in Mixed 10 metre air pistol team.
Rex William Hamilton was a New Zealand sport shooter. He represented his country in the pistol shooting events at the 1982 and 1986 Commonwealth Games,winning two medals.
