Danish Renzu is an Indian born Los Angeles based film director, producer, and screenwriter. [1] He is also the founder of Renzu Films. Renzu is best known for directing and producing films like Half Widow , The illegal , [2] [3] and Songs of Paradise featuring Saba Azad, Soni Razdan, Lillete Dubey, [4] currently in post production. Renzu has received numerous accolades, his film The illegal as a writer and director was shortlisted for nominations for the Best Picture Category at the Academy Awards 2019. [9]

Early life and education

Danish Renzu was born in Kashmir, India. [10] In 2005, he shifted to Los Angeles for further studies, [11] where he graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles. He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering and UCLA Writers' Program certification in screenwriting from the same university. [12]

Career

Renzu started directing short movies in 2015. He directed two short films In Search of America, Inshallah (2014) and First Love (2015). His first feature film Half Widow was released in 2017 and narrates the story of a woman searching for her husband against the backdrop of the Kargil War. [13] [14] His second directorial film was The illegal (2019) [15] starring Suraj Sharma of Oscar-winning film Life of Pi, Shweta Tripathi, and Adil Hussain. [16] The film was shortlisted for nominations for the Best Picture Category at the Academy Awards 2019. [9]

He also directed and produced the music video Ae Savere starring Soni Razdan and Taha Shah Badussha which traces a life of a Kashmiri Pandit woman returning to Kashmir. It was very well received. His recent award winning short films The Good News and My Father's Doctor are both streaming on Jio Cinema. [17]

His film Songs of Paradise is coming in 2025 produced by Excel Entertainment. [18]

Recently Renzu announced his Music label, Renzu Music representing many Kashmiri artists with an intention to create a platform for artists in the valley. [19]

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is a formerly armed, political separatist organisation active in both the Indian-administered and Pakistani-administered territories of Kashmir. It was founded by Amanullah Khan, with Maqbool Bhat also credited as a co-founder. Originally a militant wing of the Azad Kashmir Plebiscite Front, the organization officially changed its name to the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front in Birmingham, England on 29 May 1977; from then until 1994 it was an active Kashmiri militant organization. The JKLF first established branches in several cities and towns of the United Kingdom and other countries in Europe, as well as in the United States and across the Middle East. <i>Half Widow</i> 2017 Indian film

Half Widow is a 2017 Indian drama film directed by debutant Danish Renzu and written by Renzu and Gaya Bhola. The film tells the story of a woman from Srinagar in Kashmir, who tries to find her husband who is abducted by the Indian army. Jointly produced by Bhola and Renzu, the film stars Neelofar Hamid, Shahnawaz Bhat, Mir Sarwar and Haseena Sofi. Because there are no theaters in Kashmir, the film was screened at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre. The title of the film refers to the namesake term used for Kashmiri women whose husbands have disappeared mostly in custody of security forces in the Kashmir conflict. The film's official trailer was released in May 2017. The characters in the film talk in Urdu, with some Kashmiri. The film received a favourable review on Cineblitz. The film was released theatrically on 6 January 2020 in India.

No Fathers in Kashmir is an Indian drama film directed by Ashvin Kumar. Written by Ashvin Kumar, the film stars Zara Webb, Shivam Raina, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Anshuman Jha, Natasha Mago, and Sandeep Verma. The film was released on 5 April 2019.

Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan Niazi is a Kashmiri politician from Azad Jammu and Kashmir who was the 13th Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir from August 2021 to April 2022. He has been a member of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative assembly since August 2021. He has been the president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Azad Jammu and Kashmir chapter since April 2023.

Dr. Bezbaruah 2 is an Indian Assamese-language suspense thriller film released on 3 February 2023. It is a sequel of Dr. Bezbarua, released 53 years prior. Dr. Bezbaruah 2 was directed by late Assamese actor, Nipon Goswami, who was also the lead actor of Dr. Bezbarua. The story, screenplay and dialogues are written by Rajdweep and music by Zubeen Garg. Songs Of Paradise is an Indian musical drama set in Kashmir, directed by Danish Renzu whose last directorial was The Illegal. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, Shafat Qazi and Danish Renzu, with a screenplay by Danish Renzu, Sunayana Kachroo and dialogues by Niranjan Iyengar. The lead role is played by Saba Azad, an actress and singer known for her appearances in movies such as Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge and Nautanki Saala. The film also stars Zain Khan Durrani, Soni Razdan, Taaruk Raina, Lillete Dubey, Sheeba Chaddha, Shishir Sharma, and Lalit Parimoo. This story follows the journey of a Kashmiri woman who dreams of becoming a singer, inspired by the music of Raj Begum. Raj Begum, known as the Melody Queen of Kashmir, was a Padma Shri awardee and a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award. In a recent announcement on Variety, Excel Entertainment came on board as producers for the film.

<i>Samaira</i> (film) 2022 Indian film

Samaira is a 2022 Indian Marathi-language drama film directed by Rishi Deshpande starring Ketaki Narayan and Ankur Rathee in the leading roles. It is produced by Jagannath Surpure, Ratan Surpure, Shashikant Panat, Yohesh Alandkar and Rishi Deshpande. The film was theatrically released on 26 August 2022.
