Daniel Albert Wiseman (born September 24, 1967) is a right-handed professional ten-pin bowler who won 12 national titles as a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He is a member of both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. [1] [2] [3] [4]

PBA career

Wiseman joined the PBA in 1987, and won two titles in his first full season on the PBA Tour (1990), including a win in his TV debut that took place in his home town of Baltimore. He also won multiple titles in 1991 and 1995, on his way to 12 titles overall. His best professional season was in 2004-05, when he cashed in all 21 events that he entered, made match play a career-high 18 times, won his only major title at 2004 Miller High Life ABC Masters, and earned a career-best $186,050. The final round of the 2004 Masters was held at Miller Park, home of Major League Baseball's Milwaukee Brewers, where Wiseman won in front of over 4,000 fans. [5] He also finished runner-up in the 2009 USBC Masters.

Wiseman won more than $1.6 million in his PBA career (TV bonuses, Pro staff salary and incentives not included). He has 45 career top-five finishes on the PBA Tour and competed in the title match 18 times, going 12–6 in those matches. [6] He has thrown 44 career perfect 300 games in PBA competition (through 2019). He also has 31 USBC 300 games for a total of 75 perfect games.

Wiseman was an exempt player for the 2010-11 PBA season. He bowled in only six events of the 2009-10 season, but was granted a hardship exemption deferment due to him having to care for his ailing mother. His mother recovered from the sub-arachnid hemorrhage (brain bleed). Danny did not win a title in 2010-11, but earned enough points to retain his exemption for the 2011-12 season. The PBA Tour returned to an "open" (non-exempt) format for the 2012-13 season, but by then Wiseman had chosen to only participate part-time. In 2013-14, Danny participated in only a few PBA regional events before a serious tendon tear in his right wrist had to be addressed. He had surgery in April 2015 to repair the torn tendon, and continued rehab the rest of the season.

Wiseman was ranked #42 on the PBA's 2008 list of "50 Greatest Players of the Last 50 Years". He was voted into the PBA Hall of Fame in January, 2013, and was officially inducted on March 30, 2013 (along with Doug Kent). [7] Later in 2013, Danny was elected to the Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame (induction November 14). He was the first tenpin bowler to ever be honored by that organization. [8] Danny is also a member of the Greater Maryland State USBC and Greater Baltimore USBC Halls of fame being inducted into these in 2009. In 2014 Danny was also inducted into the local Dundalk Sports Hall of Fame. In April, 2018, Wiseman was inducted into the National USBC Hall of Fame in the Superior Performance category, marking his sixth Hall of Fame induction. [4]

On December 17, 2020, Wiseman was announced as the winner of the 2020 PBA Tony Reyes Community Service Award for his work promoting youth bowling. Since 2012, Wiseman has run an annual Danny Wiseman Youth Scholarship tournament which has awarded over $190,000 in scholarship grants. [9]

Personal

Wiseman started his own signature line of bowling and casual shirts called DWGEAR Clothing found on his website. He is a fan of IRL, NASCAR and NHRA and Formula One auto racing, as well as heavy metal and alternative music. Wiseman also hosts an annual Youth Scholarship Tournament each October, from which over $190,000 was distributed in its first 8 years to youth bowlers for their further education. Youth bowlers have traveled from nine states to participate in this event.

In August 1998, Wiseman underwent laser eye surgery to mitigate his vision issues. He saw this as a personal benefit as he didn't have to wear glasses or contacts afterwards.

A fan of the Baltimore Orioles, Wiseman was in the stands and caught Adam Jones' game-winning home run ball in the 11th inning of opening day, 2018. On June 30, 2018, the two met in person for an exchange. Wiseman had Jones sign the baseball, and gave Jones a signed bowling ball in return. [10]

Wiseman has also worked with Jeff Gordon (NASCAR), Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens), and other sports stars on their bowling charity events through the years.

As of June 26, 2022, Williams is also the all-time title leaders on the PBA50 Tour, with 16. He is a three-time PBA50 Player of the Year and has won three majors on that Tour. He has rolled 110 career perfect 300 games in PBA competition through 2019.

Diandra Hyman Asbaty is an American bowler who represented Team USA for fifteen years and was United States Amateur Champion in 1999 and 2006. She is also an official youth bowling spokesperson for the United States Bowling Congress (USBC). She competed in the PBA Women's Series from 2007 to 2010, winning two titles in that span. She also won the 2012 USBC Queens major tournament and continues to compete in PWBA tournaments. Asbaty has been elected to the USBC Hall of Fame.

Chris Barnes is an American professional bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), who currently competes on both the PBA Tour and PBA50 Tour. He has also competed internationally as a member of Team USA.

Wayne Webb is an American professional bowler from Rehoboth, Massachusetts. He was known for his success from the late 1970s to the end of the 1980s. Webb is one of only 17 players in history to win at least 20 PBA Tour titles, and is a member of both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame.

Kelly Kulick is an American professional bowler, bowling coach and sportscaster. She has won ten professional women's bowling titles, one PBA Tour title and a professional mixed doubles title. Kulick is the first woman ever to win a regular Professional Bowlers Association tour title and the only woman to win a major PBA Tour tournament. She is a 16-time member of Team USA. Kulick is currently a pro staff member for Storm Bowling, Vise grips and High 5 gear. In 2019, Kulick was inducted into the USBC Hall of Fame, Superior Performance category.

Parker Morse Bohn III is a left-handed American professional ten-pin bowler. He has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) since 1984, and is a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame. Bohn is one of only eight players in PBA history to accumulate at least 30 career PBA Tour titles, currently ranking fifth all-time with 35. He has ten more titles on the PBA50 Tour. He is a two-time PBA Player of the Year and has one a PBA50 Player of the Year award (2022). Bohn has also earned 27 PBA Regional Tour titles, nine PBA50 Regional titles, and two European Bowling Tour (EBT) titles.

Delmas Perry "Del" Ballard Jr. is a professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association. He was a 2009 inductee into the PBA Hall of Fame, and a 2011 inductee into the USBC Hall of Fame. Ballard is the husband of top female bowler Carolyn Dorin-Ballard with whom he has one daughter. The Ballard family now resides in North Richland Hills, Texas. He is also the brother-in-law of another top female bowler, Cathy Dorin-Lizzi.

John Petraglia Sr. is an American professional bowler. He is a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), where he won 14 PBA Tour titles. He has also won eight PBA Senior Tour titles. He is a member of both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame.

Elizabeth Ann Johnson is an American professional bowler. She first became known as an 11-time winner on the Professional Women's Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour, which included the first of her six U.S. Women's Open titles in 1996, before that organization suspended operations in 2003.

Mike Aulby is a left-handed bowler and former member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He is one of only five PBA bowlers to win both a Rookie and Player of the Year award. He is also the first player in history to complete a career "Super Slam", in which a bowler wins all five PBA Tour major tournaments at least once. He has since been joined in this exclusive club by Jason Belmonte. Aulby owns 29 career PBA Tour titles, currently 9th place all-time, with eight major titles among these wins. He was the first international player to earn PBA Player of the Year honors, and the first to be inducted into the PBA Hall of Fame. He is also a member of the USBC Hall of Fame. In addition to his PBA Tour titles, he has won ten titles on the PBA50 Tour, including five majors.

Doug Kent is a right-handed American professional ten-pin bowler, a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), and a PBA and USBC Hall of Famer. In the 2006–07 season, Kent became just the sixth bowler in PBA history to win two major championships in one tour year as he captured titles in the USBC Masters and Denny's PBA World Championship. For his efforts, he was voted the Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year and received a four-year exemption for PBA Tour events.

Sean Rash is an American ten-pin bowler who is considered one of the top players on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour. He currently owns 17 PBA Tour titles, including two major championships, and was the 2011–12 PBA Player of the Year. Rash has rolled two of his 30 career PBA perfect 300 games on television, making him the first player in history with multiple perfect games in the TV finals of a PBA Tour event. Canadian François Lavoie and American Chris Via, and Australian Jason Belmonte have since joined Rash in this exclusive club. Sean also owns ten PBA Regional Tour titles.

Wesley Clint "Big Nasty" Malott is an American professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). Originally from Pflugerville, Texas, he now resides in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He has won ten PBA Tour titles, and was the 2008–09 Chris Schenkel PBA Player of the Year. He won his lone major championship at the 2012–13 U.S. Open, and has finished runner-up in five other PBA major tournaments. Malott also won the 2006–07 Showplace Lanes Megabucks Shootout, which was not a PBA Tour event. He won the non-title PBA King of Bowling event in 2009, and defended his King position eight consecutive times through 2018.

Patrick Allen is a left-handed ten-pin bowler on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour. He has won 13 PBA titles, including two majors, and is a member of the PBA Hall of Fame.

David Ozio of Beaumont, Texas is a retired right-handed ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA). He won 11 titles on the PBA Tour, including one major championship, and was the 1991 PBA Player of the Year. He was the 2004 Senior PBA Rookie of the Year, and has won five titles on the Senior and Generations tours. Ozio is a member of both the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame.

David Soutar is a retired professional ten-pin bowler who competed on the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) Tour. He won 18 times on the regular PBA Tour, and seven more times on the PBA Senior Tour. Soutar was raised on the east side of Detroit, Michigan and is now a resident of Bradenton, Florida. He is a member of the PBA and USBC Halls of Fame.

Mike Scroggins is a left-handed professional ten-pin bowler and member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA), having joined in 1989. He resides in Amarillo, TX. He has won eight PBA Tour titles in his career, including two majors. He won the USBC Masters in 2005 and the Lumber Liquidators 66th U.S. Open in 2009. He has 39 career PBA 300 games, and stands at over $1.45 million in career PBA earnings following the 2017 PBA50 season. He also has three PBA50 Tour titles. Scroggins was elected to the PBA Hall of Fame in 2016, and was officially inducted with the 2017 class.

Anthony Walter Simonsen is an American professional ten-pin bowler from Little Elm, Texas, currently residing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He has been a member of the Professional Bowlers Association (PBA) since 2014. Simonsen became known in bowling fan circles early in the 2016 season, when he earned the distinction as the youngest player in history to win a PBA major championship. He is now the youngest player in history to own five major PBA Tour titles. He uses the two-handed shovel-style delivery with a dominant right hand. At age 25, Simonsen eclipsed $1 million in career PBA earnings during the 2022 season.
