Daporijo is a census town in the Upper Subansiri district, Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast of India.

Nomenclature

Originally Dapo referred to "protection" or "the barrier" against the epidemic or evil spirits while Rijo stood for "the valley". It hosts the headquarters of Upper Subansiri district. It is a beautiful town situated amidst endless hillocks, atop the river Subansiri, known for the Daporijo Bridge- a BRO undertaking as one of the swiftest ever: a bridge built in only 27 days in April 2020.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census, [1] Daporijo had a population of 15,468. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Daporijo has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 66% and, female literacy is 51%. In Daporijo, 19% of the population is under 6 years of age. Daporijo is the headquarters of the Upper Subansiri District, which is the homeland of three ethnic groups, the Tagin, Galo, and Nyishi tribes. It is a Tagin majority area, with prominent sub-groups or clans Leyu, Tamin, Tasi, Gidu Gingu, Reri, Mra, Nah, etc..

Governance

Taniya Soki is the MLA of 24th Daporijo constituency (as of April-2019), and the Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate is Kanto Dangen APCS (as of jan 2021). Taru Gusar is the SP (Superintendent of Police) of the Daporijo township.

Topography

Daporijo is located at an elevation of 600 m above sea level. It is located beside the river Subansiri, one of the principal rivers of Arunachal Pradesh, and a major tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra Daporijo valley is surrounded by Evergreen hills in three corners and Subansiri river in the other.

Transport connectivity

Daporji is on the NH13 which is part of larger Trans-Arunachal Highway. A strategic road was constructed by BRO in 2017 in Kurung Kumey district between Huri (which is already connected to Koloriang) and Sarli after heavy construction equipment was heli-airlifted from Ziro, which will enable Koloriang-Huri-Sarli-Taliha-Daporijo connectivity by facilitating the construction of the remaining Sarli-Taliha section. [2] [3] Once Taliha-Daporijo, Taliha-Nacho, Taliha-Tato (head quarter of Shi Yomi district are completed, all of which were under construction in February 2021 while facing land acquisition issues, it will provide the strategic frontier connectivity from Seppa-Tamsang Yangfo-Sarili-Koloriang-Sarili-Nacho(and beyond to Daporijo-Taksing)-Tato(and beyond to Mechuka-Gelling and Aalo). Si-Donyi Festival, mopin, bori yullo, nyokum festivals of the different tribes makes much festivity around the year.

Koloriang is a hilly district headquarters town of Kurung Kumey district in Arunachal Pradesh, India, bordering Tibet. Arunachal Frontier Highway (AFH), officially notified as the National Highway NH-913 and also called Bomdila-Vijaynagar Highway (BVH), connecting Bomdila Airstrip ALG & HQ in northwest to Vijaynagar Airstrip ALG & HQ in southeast via Nafra HQ-Sarli HQ-Huri Helipad ALG & HQ-Nacho HQ-Mechuka Airstrip ALG & HQ-Monigong HQ-Jido -Hunli HQ-Hayuliang Airstrip ALG HQ-Chenquenty-Hawai HQ-Miao HQ including 800 km greenfield section and network of new tunnels & bridges, is a 2-lane paved-shoulder under-construction national highway along the India-China LAC-McMahon Line border in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. The 1,748 km-long (1,086 mi) highway itself will cost 27,000 crore and total cost including 6 additional inter-corridors is 40,000 crore. In some places, this highway will run as close as 20 km from the LAC. To be constructed by MoRTH in 9 packages, all packages will be approved by the end of fy 2024-25 and construction will be completed in 2 years by 31 March 2027. Of the total route, 800km is greenfield, rest brownfield will be upgraded and tunnels will be built. This highway in the north & east Arunachal along the China border, would complement the Trans-Arunachal Highway and the Arunachal East-West Corridor as major highways spanning the whole state, pursuing the Look East connectivity policy.

East-West Industrial Corridor Highway of Arunachal Pradesh, a 2-lane and 966.78 km long including existing 274.20 km Pasighat-Manmao route, is a proposed highway across lower foothills of Arunachal Pradesh state in India from Bhairabkunda in Assam at tri-junction of Bhutan-Assam-Arunachal Pradesh in west to Kanubari tri-junction of Nagaland-Assam-Arunachal Pradesh in east.

Gelensiniak, or Geling Sinyik, is a village in the Limeking Circle of the Upper Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh, India, close to the region's border with Tibet. The Gelen or Gelling river flows down from Migyitun and Longju and joins the Subansiri River here. Gelensiniak is strategically located between Longju, Taksing and Limeking. The region is populated by the Mara clan of Tagin people.

Subansiri river bridge is built over the Subansiri river in Arunachal Pradesh near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) by the Border Road Organization (BRO). Due to Covid restrictions the opening ceremony led by the Chief Minister of Arunachal pradesh, Pema Khandu occurred via video conferencing. The Bridge plays a crucial role in connecting Daporijo and other villages present on either side of Subansiri river as it is the only medium of communication between them. This 430 feet bridge required reconstruction, and after the approval, construction started on 17 March 2020 and was completed on 14 April 2020 in record 27 days. The reconstructed bridge capacity is 40 tonnes, compared to 24 tonnes for the original bridge. The bridge is named after Hangpan Dada, the martyr who lost his life fighting terrorists in Jammu & Kashmir region.
