Darcy Zajac (born September 23, 1986) is a Canadian professional ice hockey player who last played for the Lorenskog Is of the Get-Ligen (Norway). He previously played for the Albany Devils of the American Hockey League.

Career

Prior to turning professional, Zajac attended the University of North Dakota where he played NCAA Division 1 hockey for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. [1]

Zajac joined the Albany Devils in 2010. He signed a two-year, two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils in 2013. [2] After his contract with the Devils' organization expired in 2015, he joined the Danish club SønderjyskE.

For the 2016-17 season, Zajac joined the UK's Coventry Blaze. However Zajac left to go play in Lorenskog Norway in October 2016. [3]

Personal life

Darcy is the second of four Zajac brothers. His older brother, Travis, is a forward with the New York Islanders and his younger brother Kelly plays in the ECHL. The youngest brother, Nolan, played with the NCAA Denver Pioneers. Their father, Tom, also played for the University of Denver. [4]

The North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's ice hockey team is the college ice hockey team at the Grand Forks campus of the University of North Dakota. They are members of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and compete in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I ice hockey. North Dakota is widely regarded as a premier college hockey school and has one of the most storied programs in NCAA history. UND has made over 30 appearances in the NCAA tournament, appeared in the Frozen Four 22 times, and has won 8 NCAA Division I Championships. The program has also achieved 15 WCHA Regular season Championships, 5 NCHC Regular season Championships, and 12 Conference Tournament championships. The school's former nickname was the Fighting Sioux, which had a lengthy and controversial tenure before ultimately being retired by the university in 2012 due to pressure from the NCAA. The official school nickname is now the Fighting Hawks, a name that was chosen by the university on November 18, 2015.

With the Las Vegas Wranglers in his second season, Bina developed an offensive talent that was rewarded with a starting position in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game, although he chose to forgo the opportunity in favor of playing overseas. In Norway, he helped the Stavanger Oilers win their first ever title, the 2010 Norwegian Championship, and was named the most valuable player of the tournament. The 1999–2000 North Dakota Fighting Sioux men's ice hockey season was the 58th season of play for the program. They represented the University of North Dakota in the 1999–2000 NCAA Division I men's ice hockey season and for the 49th season in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The Fighting Sioux were coached by Dean Blais, in his 6th season, and played their home games at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
